Ok so i can be a bit of a bitch when pushed lol
She did that stereotypical popular girl thing where she puts her hands on her hips, cocks her head, makes that little click sound that girls do when they're about to say something idiotic, and the whole time she was telling me about the things her mom said, her head was moving from side to side to emphasize damn near every word she was saying, and she was rolling her eyes so much I thought her retinas were going to detach. I sat there in shock for a split second before I gave her the same position, mimicked her movements exactly, and I basically told her that her mother doesn't know everything and that she's really stupid for believing everything her mother told her. I had to catch myself twice, once when I almost called her a bitch, [I wanted to say "you're being a little bitch" and instead I said "You're being EXTREMELY rude"] and another time when I almost told her that Santa wasn't real. I kind of regret not telling her that, with the way she was acting, you'd think she doesn't believe in Santa anyways.

I really don't mind if kids don't believe I'm real. But one thing I wish the non believers would realize is that they could be near someone who does believe in mermaids, and it hurts them extremely when they hear that person continuously try to disprove me. There was a very shy girl at the pool that day, she was only about 4 or 5 years old. She saw me when she came in, [and I think she was even the girl who went and told everyone there was a mermaid in the pool] and she sat on the shallow end stairs with me. She never talked much, but I asked her her name and I told her I was called Ayla. She said she believes in mermaids and she knows I'm real. Then she got out of the pool. She never came back, but she was always around on the deck, and I would sneak around the edge of the water and whenever she looked my way, I'd squirt water at her from my mouth. It made her laugh and her mom thanked me for paying attention to her because she was so shy.

The whole time these kids were yelling at me, I was watching for the little girl, and when she came close, I'd have to swim away to draw these mean kids away from her so she wouldn't hear them saying I'm fake. I had to stay away from her to protect her tiny little feelings. feltbadman.jpg.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE IS NO SANTA :-O lol, sorry had to xD

You know that is EXACTLY why i dont like people saying things like that, they ruin the magic for those who do believe, that poor little girl would of been so hurt that they would say that and would of cried (to which i think this bitch would of laughed) i really do think it comes down to a jealousy thing, think about it....she most probably gets the full attention and here you are, a mermaid none the less.

Ayla, Your story breaks my heart. One question I have is why weren't the parents doing anything to stop these bitchy girls from harassing you. This is harassment an punishable by law here in the U.S. You could sue the hotel for allowing such bad behavior towards one of their guests (even if you are not staying there, you are considered a guest because of the use of their pool). But it is expensive to file a claim and go through that process. The hotel stall should have helped you more though and ordered those children out of the pool. Sorry that this happened.

That whole ordeal is just AWFUL!! I'm so sorry Ayla! I agree that that is harassment and destruction of personal property, and they could be held accountable under the law for that. Even if they are minors, their parents could be held responsible. Absolutely unacceptable! I would not stand for that. I give you big props for keeping your cool like that. I would have taken off the tail and marched straight up to the parents and demanded compensation for my damaged property (the belt) and gotten security if they refused. Also remind them that what their kids were doing were physical harassment and that legal action could be taken. When people disrespect me like that I don't keep my cool in terms of letting it go and hoping they'll stop. I do think that in a situation you need to be calm but stern with your voice. Being sweet-voiced with people like that will not get you anywhere. Physical harassment and destruction of property crosses a line- you should realize that, and that it is not okay and that you should not just try to deal or shrug it off.

If you don't have someone with you, or even if you do, I think it would be a good idea to have something that could help you if this kind of situation arises again. The first thing that comes to mind is a whistle. Life guards have them, I think you should too. More times than not, you are not capable of getting out of the pool to handle situations. Something like that would get the kids attention and let them know you are serious. If they don't, then one long loud blow could get the attention of everyone in the room, which means the parents. Repeated long blows could get the attention of someone at the front desk, meaning potentially security.

Awe. At least the little girl was one good thing and you got to make her happy. It just goes to show that kids when young don't understand difference, or race, or status. If a Person is nice, it's immediate friendship. Hate is a taught feeling. It isn't until a child is introduced to learned things of the grown up world when they question what they believe and act a certain way because they think it's ok or no one has told them otherwise. And the little girl who kept professing what her mother told her, one day she will realiz her mother is not always right. Anyway kudos to the little girl. Childlike faith is so beautiful.

I love working with the Radisson so I'm not going to take any legal action on them. After all, they were the ones who granted me permission to swim because I assured them they would be free of any liability. If I had any muse whatsoever, I'd probably take legal action against the parents, if I had known who they were.
I just chalked it up to a particularly nasty group of kids that day. Also it was my first time working with the kids so for me the biggest issue was getting out of my tail without anyone seeing. Once I figure that out, everything should be easy going. I'll most likely only wear the fishnet belt for photo shoots now, I have one or two other belts I can try out as well.

Can I just whine for a minute that I still can't find work in my field? I'm having a realllllly stressful day and I just wanna cry. I know it's got nothing to do with me or my skills, there is literally no jobs. I've been venting with friends in the same position and we all just feel like we have no choice but to move. I love where I live. I have myself established as a mermaid, all my friends and family are here, my specialist is here for my illness too. I feel like everything else in my life is great but I just can't find work. Anything I can find is min wage, it wont pay my bills, and I'd have to give up mermaid stuff. I make more money doing mermaid stuff on a weekend than I do in a week of min wage work. It's just not enough when it comes to student loan and some of my bills. Been doing everything I can to expand my mermaid stuff, which is slowly going well. It's just, if I wanted to be a full time mermaid I would of saved a bit of money first you know? Just tired. I put so much into my education and experiences, and I feel like It's no different than if I just graduated high school and did nothing else.

*sigh* I try to be a happy bubbily person, I think today just wore me a little thin is all. Just needed to vent.

I HATE OUR PRIME MINISTER!!!! Miss Julia Gillard is going to make it law (that's right as in you are legal allowed to) That churches and religions have the right to freely discriminate against Same Sex couples and the LGBTI community! OMG!!!!!! AS IF THERE WASN'T ENOUGH HATE IN THIS WORLD ALREADY!!!!!

big ball of sad and angry right now
I find it kind of strange that these ministers want to discriminate same sex marriage when the Bible says "Judge not less ye be judged" or something like that.

Our prime minister just lifted every law and rule that protects all bodies of water in Canada, so he could continue with the pipeline and not be arrested for polluting them! Hence the idlenomore movement.

ARGH!!!! That's just wrong! Why should one person with one opinion have the power to do that?! Well, they'll learn one day when his water tastes like sewage.

I know right? I thought we had a democracy in Canada, apparently we have a dictatorship.

It's the parliamentary system. It has its strengths: more quick to respond to the will of the majority, less gridlock (which we're notorious for).

Unfortunately, so long as the PM can command a majority, he/she can do what he/she damn well pleases.

Something like that "treat unto others as you would have them treat unto you" (18 years of Irish Catholic-ness there for you). But they seem to get special allowances for people they don't like and when someone sets a country back by saying "yes we'll keep your really old rules that say gays are terrible people" I think it's bull shit

And for whoever thinks i'm a bit of a bitch for 'having a go at religion'
I wasn't having a go at religion, be as religious as you want!!!! I have an issue with a self proclaimed atheist, who isn't married (and as a result) living in sin with her boyfriend (or rather de-facto partner), can think she has any right to say ANYTHING about how marriage is a sacred religious whatever (she doesn't use the term whatever but she does use sacred and religious) between a man and a women.

You hit the nail on the head, with my fears of graduating either at the end of this year, or by next Spring 2014. They say that the U.S Economy will get better by 2014, but looking at where it is now, with the Fiscal Cliff and other economic/political issues, we may become a republic of China before the year is over! Yeah I'm really scared to graduate. The employment rate is steadily increasing but not enough. However I will do my best to gain employment, even if I have to move to another country, for a better life. Because where this nation is headed, is down a very steep cliff, if they don't get their act together. I'm guessing employment may be a bit better next year, but who knows. Anything could happen.
