Can I use a permanent marker for scales?

I created my scale pattern using sharpie markers. Can just use that to draw the scales? I know most people use paint, but I already have the markers I need. Has any one ever tried this??

I don't see why it wouldn't work. But you may have to reapply it every so often.

Yes thats what I use on my tails, acrylic paint over top and then some waterproof spray over the whole paint job to finish it off!
I have put the tails through the wash and they hold up quite well
