    Wanted: Very Basic Fabric Tail

Hey guys. I'm a new mer still stuck with legs and not a huge budget. I'm going to be a fifth year senior at college, but I really want to make this happen.

My biggest roadblocks for fabric tails in my budget are um... well sizes, (I'm a chunky monkey and I want to use a tail to lose some weight) and mono fins. I'm a women's 9½ and a lot of fabric tailmakers don't offer the finis rapid. That and I'm not sure if mono fins like magictail or the 2tails would do me any good given my size :/

All I'm looking for is a flat dark green fabric tail with a Rapid or Foil monofin. The material doesn't even need to be shiny, whatever 4-way stretch in the neighborhood of dark green is fine. This is by no means a rush order either, I don't want it until I move into my apartment at the end of August at the earliest. And to be honest, I'd rather order from one of you guys than the bigger businesses. We all need to eat.

I really don't want to go over $250 for a basic, no-frills tail, but I am willing to negotiate. And I will hand over my measurements before we even talk about a price, I know I'm going to need more fabric than most. Let me know if anyone's interested.

If you're planning on using the tail for weight loss, I would personally suggest losing some weight first - perhaps swimming with just a monofin before you get your tail. You'll probably lose quite a bit of weight fairly quickly, making the tail baggy and needing to be taken in. This happens to me all the time because I have a hard time keeping my weight constant - I can't make myself anything too tight-fitting without having to take it in or let it out later. I suggest to practice with the monofin first, then you'll avoid having to send it in for tailoring so soon, plus you might even save a bit of money on cost of materials! Also, I would consider a drawstring waist, so that when you do lose weight swimming in your tail, you'll be able to adjust the tightness of the waist better than a zipper or elastic waistband

If I had made my own tail yet, I'd offer to make yours, but I'd rather make beginner's mistakes on my own tail LOL.

They have your rapid, they will do a special order if you are larger than their Adult large, and the "smooth" tail is not much more than 250 with tax and shipping.

I'm basically in the same situation as you! I've been considering getting a tail from FinFun since they do custom tails for adults. I sent them an email, but I haven't heard back...

As I stated previously, I started wit my monofin. I went to the pool (since I got it in winter) and kept swimming in it. I have a log background of swimming, so I was already used to swimming with feet together and adding the monofin wasn't too big of a deal. Once I was used to the monofin, I got the rubber and fabric for my tail. I also added an elastic waist and since It was sewn by me, I can easily take it out to alter it (which I have). I am hoping after I graduate college (in January! SO excited!) I want to put money aside from my paychecks to get a silicone tail.

The Fin Fun folks say that their monofin will fit up to about a size 11 shoe size. I am in your boat, too, Erie - a plus size lady with bigger feet! (Way more of me to love, right? ) Like Seraphina, I have sent them an e-mail asking about sizes and prices and stuff, and haven't heard back, but that was also only a day or so ago (over the weekend), so hopefully I will hear something back soon.

I'm the opposite end of the spectrum, MerAnthony! Short and round, with wide feet, so I am hoping the Fin Fun monofin fits ok. I should get it next Tuesday.

LOL Mer-hobbits. It's all good. It makes no difference how big or how small you are. But if you are on the bigger side look at it this way. There is more of you to love.

I wear a 10.5 in men's and have wide feet. The Rapid absolutely KILLS my feet.

I know a lot of people do not like them, but I absolutely can not say enough positive things about the Foil Mono fin. I always order the next size up when I get a Competitor or a Foil for myself.

If a customer tells me they have wide feet, I order the next size up as well.

A Foil is a great starter mono fin, and is most affordable.
