Thread: Show us your tail designs!

  1. #221
You could probably open up a new album on your profile to do that. Then you can organize everything and use the privacy settings to make sure only members of the network can see your designs, that way there's less of a chance of the designs being taken and your work going uncredited.

I'm making a tigerfish tail for my first tail! Because the design I drew was AMA-ZING! (More amazing then the shark one I was going to make first.) But the colors I kind of dulled because I can't scan the picture on to the computer yet. Green, silver, BRIGHT orange-yellow, baby pink and white are all on the tail. XD

Then there is my shark tail, that I'm gonna have to make sometime, I lovels it to bits and pieces, but, I'll wait on it. (And not sure if I want it solid gray, or to have a white underbelly, or if I'm going to choose a neat real-life shark design. like the brown ones with white spots and stripes.)

Then there's this Angelfish tail, that, I am NOT going to make for myself, and probably won't make at all. But I do want to see it made sometime, so, you know, if someone wants to lay claim to it, they can. I don't know what colors to add though, it really needs something in my oppinion. Oh, if you do want it, tell me, and send me pictures once you have it and stuff.

Great concepts Meemerdd! I like the Shark Bodysuit. You could have a whole series on that alone, with all the shark types. Could also work for a Selkie option...another topic for later though.

Your tigerfish tail sounds like a Mardi Gras waiting to happen!

Since you mentioned it, I went ahead and drew out that concept for you — quick and dirty — based on what google thought angelfish were. The something (IMO) I think it needed was emphasis on the dorsal, since the kind most seen in aquariums have a crazy high dorsal, and a stringy pelvic/ventral fin. It would be gorgeous as eye candy; my only concern is that it may cause a lot of drag when swimming with it.

Then again sailfish have an even higher dorsal array, and they're among the fastest swimmers in the ocean.

Thank you! (Yep, a whole series of awesome sharks out there, and an oppratunitie for hammer head shoulder armor I shall be taking, just because that would be awesome! XD ) Bodysuits are so much better then seperate pieces too, I think, no worry about something sliding while you swim, and no more trying to figure out the "perfect top" to go with it.

Oh NO! Now I'm worried it will look super fake mardi-gras instead of a nice mermaid tail. *facedesk*

Oh my, your design is so pretty, though I agree, I think someone would have tons of trouble swimming in that, or it could make it a large deal faster. (Now I feel the need to test it out. Gah!)

Yeah, but they don't swim up and down, they swim side to side. Dorsals that aren't small and streamlined, like a dolphin's, don't do well for the mammalian up and down style.
That being said, it'd look gorgeous! If one were just interested in graceful and beautiful movement, I think it'd do just fine.

See, I don't think Mardi Gras as fake. I personally love the jewel tones and shiny shiny (like a party in a tail). Sorry Think of it this way: you'll have an especially FUN and unconventional tail.

Shark hide armor....mmmmmmmm. I'm partial to armor and anything having to do with battle and fighting; hence me being really drawn to the shark concepts. Don't forget the trident when you're all done.

Tridents! Because fighting and fantasy just got to be combined. I'll have to make a trident, or at least take a old pirate sword with me, your right. (Fighting is awesome, but, most armor is way to heavy, I imagine shark skin would be like a step up from leather though.)

  8. #228
What fun is fantasy without a few punches and riff raff involved between ridiculously pretty people?

The most "practical" piece of armor would be sharkhide, as you've stated, and I agree. The most metal you could have on your person would be something like a chainmail shirt, but that's it. Even then it would rust and erode after a time.

My husband and I play off the Cerulean Seas campaign setting, which details other types of armor. Coral...good luck swimming in that. Jellyfish...if you want the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man look. Ice...I don't think that's very healthy or comfortable against the skin, unless you're going for the permanent out-of-body experience. Mr. Freeze was able to rock it though :P

Tridents are the defacto sea weapons most common to folks IMO. If you look in any D&D book, it should be simple creating an underwater equivalent. Cerulean Seas has a nice assortment of water weapons. Easiest one I think you could get away with is a simple exhibition bo staff. It can be easily capped/embellished with any fake bladed object. Even when stripped of it, it's still an effective defensive weapon — more so if you know and can apply the forms.

Those armors do not sound practical. *_* Agreed.

D&D is always my defacto source for weapon designs, they have well depictated pictures when they put the pictures in the books. What is Cerulean Seas? I must see these tridents now. O.o

Their maps suck. But the rest of the art and concepts are pretty neat.

Maybe there'd be a way to interface the tiger fish concept and colors with the shark suit concept. I see a tribal/Maori style theme there with the two.

Meemerdd: I like your designs! The shark one is pretty neat, and I like the colours on the first one!

    Daphne:
Ugh, I can't wait to see your thread! SO MANY DESIGNS you are awesome.

Also, he is so not worried about the hot pink making him seem less masculine - that was actually his favorite dye job ever, and if we had the means to upkeep it (not to mention if we lived somewhere slightly less redneck-y LOL), he would always have that dye job haha!

Hmm, need to figure out picture manipulation...

Ok this should be the last series before I start that album. I haven't gotten a response to my email from the artist, so I dug around and did research myself between translating words into Tagalog (in proper context) and translating those words into the Baybayin. I got impatient

As I expected, it's one busy squiggly mess. So I messed around with its color and typography to get most of it legible, and keeping those words in the same pattern as the kanji were. Hopefully I'll get some proper consult from the artist if the words I'm using are contextually correct. I'm also working in two dimensions which makes concepting this particular design difficult. Wish I knew 3D so I could just skin a model, add the code and upload it as a swf you guys can actually turn 360 and rotate it, like you can on some product pages. Those parts I have done before at work.

Previewing your tail design to scale in 3D..uuuugh too smart for me but I know how to do a third of that stuff...

Anyhoo my final picks are between the green and purple ones. Green's my fave color. The purple reminds me of an aurora borealis. This is making my brain hurt
