Nope! Explain to them ankle biters that in mermaid culture, there are many types of mermaids. Some have real skin (don't say its silicone, it will spoil their effect), some have slippery skin (fabric) and others have rubbery skin (neoprene).

This was my first public event as a volunteer mermaid (not my gig lol), I had met up with a few mers and a professional mermaid at a Pirate Fest locally, and when i was about to get my tail from finfun on, I slipped and fell. (We were at the boat launch). I ended up getting a scrape on my knee, but it wasn't too bad. Didnt even bleed. But my shorts got wet lmao. I was fine, not hurt.

When you get really comfortable in the water and ready to try swimming underwater and cant sink. Then proceed to try REALLY hard and manage to end upside down with butt and legs sticking straight out but somehow STILL not making it down at all!

My fiance tried to show me all kinds of ways but i guess a big ol booty and spare tire make me much too bouyant.

That’s me!! Big ol floatty butt! I have an early video of me in my finfun trying to dive down and ended up floating back up like a cork. It took a while for me to get underwater for any length of time. Now its just practice to stay there.

oh my Neptune yes! but usually when they ask to feel it they've already indicated that they know its not real, and me in the moment not being great at improv just agrees with them, especially since I might want to take off my tail later to swim with dual lower appendages

Sounds like you were dehydrated, and were pushing too hard! "...haven't swam in your tail in forever..." was your first clue
