My youngest is terrified of the beetles .... and cicadas even if they don't bite, pinch or sting he screams. He's just not into bugs. He loves mermaids n mermen.
He is wanting to learn to sign hello merman to a merman he looks up to who happens to be deaf but I've not seen how to sign that for him and he is french so ... even harder to look up.

Honestly I wish I would have had pearlie mae make me a tail.
This has been the BIGGEST project of my life. I'm so ready to have all the cluster and mess off my tables (it's taken up my dinning table AND my coffee table). I'm so over tail making. I like my tail but I think I'd love it more without the stress.

I has to drill out my scales because they went too deep. I put waaaay too much vasoline on my fluke it took days of gingerly removing it. I messed up on the side fins and abandoned the idea for lack of time and cost to remake. I don't want you to think it's been easy. It's not. it's the opposite of easy. I can even begin to say how stressful it's been. But I wouldn't have ever listened to anyone. I'm stubborn and want to do stuff myself. Or at least try before letting someone else do it for me.

The additional resin came in so the weak spots are fixed I'll check it tonight n see how it cured up. I also thought hhmmm I'll make a little extra cast, that will be a surprise. ;) you will have to wait to see that one but it's smaller and was a quick addition incase I had extra resin, and I did! Yay!

She had a point. If it really bothers you, fill the holes with hot glue, or epoxy putty (test it for inhibition issues first!).

Well I like it! You could always paint over it to change it slightly, depending on what you're looking for.

Maybe paint some green, gold and purple over areas of the turquoise to tone it down a bit? If you mix up the coloured silicone and paint it on thinly with a brush it'll just give a hint of coloured sheen over the turquoise. (And brush cleaner fluid works brilliantly for cleaning the bush afterward - as long as the silicone hasn't cured on it!)

If you want to tone it down some but keep the colors, mix a little black pigment into Part B of some Dragonskin...a very little bit to keep it translucent...When you're ready to top coat it, mix in the appropriate amount of part A.

First, clean the fluke with alcohol, to get any hand oils off of it, mix your silicone, then smear a layer over the top...very thin coats until it tones down to what you like.

You can also add glitter to the top coats for extra sparkle.

The only thing that stands out to me is the bright green on the peacock feathers. That should be easy enough to tone down using the method PearlieMae mentioned. The turquoise is bright but it seems to match the brightest blue scales. You could make a few more rows of scales in transitioning colors to attach at the seam of the fluke/scale sheet to help it blend.

The shimmer slime will blend the colors. If I had to be super critical, I would say to blend in the green lines, which kinda spilled over just a teeny bit when it was poured. I would just blend those edges in a bit before putting the glaze on it. It really is beautiful work.

Depending on how much remaining time & supplies I might go over the green on the backside to tone it down. I still need to attach scales to the back of the fluke. I'll have to await this side to cure before doing the back. So looks like a good time to head to bed n do more in the morning before work. I only have tomorrow to get it done!

While I got my tail done in time the very last batch didn't cure very well because it had too much paint or pigment so it was gummy. I'll be scraping n redoing the last little bit. I had left over scales so those won't have to be redone. And it won't take too much to fix. But overall did pretty well and held up well too ... we've with some gummy spots. From adhering the individual scales on the underside of the heel.

Reflections after a few times wearing my tsil now.

Well like I mentioned I had some gummy bits in the very last batch of silicone I scrapped n cleaned it off and put new scales on the small area ilto fix it. It was part attaching the body to the monofin. It was a nasty clean up and not very easy. But I got it done. I also did a top coat over that part to make sure it's a strong attachment since my nightmare of it detaching lol.
I'm very happy overall with my tail. I know my tail doesn't lay flat well but its much easier to get in to with the mahina monofin. From side veiw my tail has a L shape rather than a I shape. So Yay for me for sticking to my body cast, it worked very well!

My pod mates have tail that paint is peeling off, my color is inside the silicone there is no peeling off so I'm very pleased with that too.

I'm glad I got it finished. I'm glad I did it the way I did it. But I'd never do this again, lol. My next tail someday will be purchased . But let's see how long this one will last me!

We are mermaids at a Renaissance Festival in Muskogee Ok
And it's our mermaid grotto as we call it. The one in yellow/gold/black created it about 6 yrs ago n then moved into our current spot about 4 yrs ago.

This year we made a coral reef! And added a bubble machine!

You look so gorgeous. I love your headdress, bodice, and tail, so creative and beautiful. I also have a teenage camera person. My son said to me "this is a little weird Mom, every time you go underwater you look so much younger". Who knew mermaiding is even better than candle light for flattering complexions.

It's negative buoyant so once in the water it's perfectly fine... now carrying it to the water is different! I used the mahina monofin which is hard to get on but once you do there's no slipping. But don't expect to make any sharp turns! lol

With the monofin like it is I won't have to worry about breaking it and the silicone is thicker than i had planned but that also means it's not going to get too ripped up either and it's pretty durable. All in all I love the tail and making it with a "L" shape for where my feet go is MUCH easier to get into and more comfortable.

I have noticed I'm able to swim so much faster and deeper without much effort into really trying in my tail. It was nice during the summer to enjoy having my tail. I wish it was summer again!

Actually, silicone is neutrally buoyant...if it were negatively buoyant, you'd sink!
