Does this count as an accessory? I hope so because OMG it's so freakin' gorgeous! As I said before I'm slowly working on making myself a pirate garb but stay within a mermaid-y theme, so that I can have a chance to walk around even though that's very rare. Once I'm in a tail, it's pretty hard to get a moment to get out of it and most of the time I end up in tail for the entire event due to the amount of people wanting pictures and such. You know how it goes! LOL

The 'prince' is lucky that I love him so dearly as this dagger will never pierce him and his blood will never touch me to change my legs back into a tail. :p

Thought I would post my arm band here also ^_^. New one mostly done, colours are a little mottled in the head region due to me not mixing the latex properly andbthe last layer of gloss is drying, hence the white bits but you get the picture >_<.

So a little while ago, I posted on Facebook that I was selling an old pair of unicorn hoofboots and a tail, because I couldn't wear the boots anymore and they just sat in my closet all the time, and I never went out to play the faun character I used to anymore. One of my friends who makes awesome chainmaille and leatherworking gear for her LARPing group ("Live Action Role Play" for those who aren't familiar) offered to trade some custom maille/leatherwork for the set, and we decided to settle on some custom mermaid bracers to match my tail (which is still currently in the works!)

They aren't done yet, but I just got the first WIP pictures of the base and I AM IN LOVE!

There's going to be some white, gold and purple scales attached over the leather (save for the fin) and the fin is going to be painted a pearly white base so I can paint it to match my tail when I get it. :D The bracers are going to be dry-use only (obviously leather and aluminum scales are not a good combo for water... XD), and I'm so excited to see how the final bracers come out!

I feel like they would go with any type of tail from fabric to realistic. I'd love to make some for other mers to help fund my sequin and latex tails....

I nearly forgot to post this here! I made it about a month ago...

The base is jute covered wire, thick, about 16 gauge. The pearls, shells, and greenery are all attached with wire as well. No glue was used. The greenery is both pinkish and green. with a pearlescent finish.

I hope to add a few to my inventory, soon.

When I started making accessories I was told not to use it because it doesn't hold up long when wearing it in water. It'll rot so that's why nobody uses it because most of us swim and want things to hold up so we use fishing line or netting as the base.

Been thinking about making a mermaid staff to go with my walking around dress. I'd like to make it out of a tree branch, but I'm not sure how well the wood would handle being wet??
any ideas from y'all?
It wouldn't be in water a lot just sometimes for photos.

It is all wood, for the pole I used an old broken pool umbrella that twisted apart in the center.
Here are the progress shots of me making it:

First I drew out a pattern of what I wanted it to look like (not functional of course) Then I mirrored the image so that it would be the same on both sides.

Next I traced it onto some scrap wood I had and then cut it out.

I cut out the trident and sanded the edges so they had a bit of a curve. Then I glued shells and made some 'gem' like shapes also. (All will be covered in paint.

I sanded everything- even the pole because at the end I wanted it all to be gold.

At the top of the pole I cut a notch in it so that the trident head could easily rest on it.

I painted a base color on the trident head so that the metallic paint would stand out and not be darkened buy all the colors of the shells underneath.
And then I used heavy duty glue to glue the pole to the head.

I got an old (kinda broken at the bottom) oar free from a neighbors garage sale.
The saying goes......one man's trash is another man's treasure.
I cleaned it, spray painted it, and then encrusted it in shells, broken/fragmented shells, glitter, pearls, and beads.
I think it turned out really neat looking!
I'm planning on using it as a walking stick with my walking tail and/or some sort of prop.

I have had foil stick to small resin pieces in the past. It peeled off pretty easily, /but/ if there is any detailing it will stick mightily and it sucks.

I kept forgetting to add these, but anyway I'll add them :) I found these all in 2nd hand shops, for under $20 total :) The shell disk, mermaid pendant, single strand pearl necklace and pearl bracelet will all be used for different jewellery items. ( freshwater pearls) the earrings need new hooks on them, and the multi- strand white and pink pearl necklaces I won't change. I also got a bunch of glass beads in ziplock bags for $3! Cheap, good quality, OCEAN COLOURED beads! Woohoooooo!!! I love secondhand shops!!

I never noticed before, but Marina and her sisters are the only mermaids who don't have clothing. The father, the grandmother, everyone else in the room when Marina receives her hair pin... they all have clothes on!

As the base I used a normal headband from flea market and first confirmed it stayed on very well by itself, and while making the thing I just every now and then tried it on to secure it stayed fit enough but not too fit, I made that mistake with one headband where I glued some small shells and it got so small I can't almost get it on my head anymore... XD So it just stays there by itself :) Might be that I have to figure smthn out to hold it still while swimming though, because now it definitely wouldn't stay :)

Here's my little sea-squire, Pod. He's a blue-spotted stingray made by Mermaid Cyanea. I attached him to the netting so when it's tied on, it looks like he's perched on my wrist like a falcon.
