Hello merpeople!
My name is Cas, and I'm really new to mer stuff. I didn't even know there were professional mermaids until a couple days ago, but now it's all I want to learn about. I've started a ton of research and watched a lot of videos, but if there's anything you guys can teach me, I'd be happy to learn from you guys!
I hope to make new friends and hopefully by next summer be able to have a monofin so I can start learning to swim.

Hi Cas, and welcome to Mernetwork! I'm also a bit of a newbie, but the community is great, and so helpful and friendly. Which monofin are you hoping to get?

OHMYGOD RAINA I feel like a celebrity just talked to me. I've already watched and read everything that you have up that's free. And I just got a job today, so hopefully soon I'll be able to get your book as well.

The one I was looking at to start out is the Finis Foil Monofin because it's so cheap and it's meant to help you learn.
Hi Cas! Welcome! I'm also new to the mernetwork.
Hope you don't drown. Just poking fun at you if you are an experienced swimmer nothing really can happen to you if you stay calm.

I hope I don't drown, either! I'm experienced enough that I can swim without a lifejacket or anything and not die, but I'm certainly no athlete, so I'm hoping the monofin doesn't try to kill me. But I'm sure it'll be nice to me if I'm nice to it.

Cool - because it's so small compared to other monofins, it's meant to make you really agile in the water, so have fun with that! If you're ever looking at one with more propulsion, I can't recommend the So Dive Hydras enough - they make you so fast, but still look quite organic in the movement and the range of agility it allows. Mind you, I'm so incredibly biased as a Hydra owner myself xD

Thanks! I've heard a little bit about Hydras, but I haven't paid too much attention to them because they seem too advanced for me as of now, but I'll definitely look into them when I'm more comfortable.

The main thing is having fun and staying safe, not your equipment, and I've seen so many great tails put together with Foils - good luck for when you get yours, and happy mermanning!

Hello, and welcome! Discovering mermaiding for the first time must be really fun!
You're going to need a new username before long, though :D

It really is! But I couldn't think of anything else for my username, and I thought it was clever and would someday be ironic haha
But I'll probably hate it after I start swimming and have to change it.
Meh.. names aren't important. I wanted to name myself "Mermaid Nana" but it feels like I would imply I'm professional by doing so.
But yeah as a gamer I can see mernoob as being a rather negative characterized name. You'll get the ropes though.

Yeah, I don't completely understand mers always having to say Mermaid or whatever before their name. I guess it makes sense to a point of just distinguishing that it's a mermaid persona. I don't know. I'll probably figure it out someday.
I actually got my name from playing video games. I thought it was a nice way to throw in one of my passions into my name. I absolutely love playing video games.

I agree. I think it's something that just became a trend. Your name is your name, even if you choose to go by a different name when in "mer-mode". Names change as we do. Even in real-life, I've gone by different nicknames among my groups of friends at different times. When I get called by an old name, maybe by someone who hasn't seen me in a while, it's a little strange, because I don't feel like that person anymore. Sorry for the tangent…
I like games a lot too. What kind of games do you like playing? I like games that involve traveling, exploring, or experiencing other worlds (I like traveling in real life, too).

That's how my name is, too. My full name is Cassandra, and for a long time people either called me that or Cassie, but recently I decided to go by just Cas because I feel it fits me better, and whenever someone calls me one of the others, I feel like they're talking to someone else haha
But tangents are totally fine! I go on them all the time. It's like a little adventure.
Other world games are definitely a favourite of mine, but depending on my mood, I might just want to blow stuff up, and when that happens, GTAV is my #1.
But then if I want to be creative, Minecraft becomes my obsession. It really depends on my mood.
And I love traveling in real life, too. I don't get to do it very often, but I just got a job, so hopefully I'll have the money to do it more often.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 14 mostly. It's lots of fun! I used to play lots of RPGs, but I haven't really have the patience in a while. I've lost quite a lot of time to minecraft before, but I've never played a GTA game. Well, that's not true — a friend let me try the latest one. I was kind of amazed at the level of detail in the game, but I kept killing people by accident and it made me feel weird :/ It was fun to drive places though.

I don't know if I've ever played a Final Fantasy game, but I've always wanted to. The past couple days I've been really into Minecraft, it's hard to stop once I get going. But yeah, GTA does have it's moments where I'm uncomfortable, but at the same time, I kind of like the violence. It's a way for me to get my anger out without actually hurting anyone, but sometimes I do feel kinda weird if I kill an innocent person.
