So, I contacted my local library to see about volunteering for school, and we started talking and Mermaiding came up (because I somehow manage to throw it into every conversation!) The volunteer coordinator seemed really interested in the idea of "Mermaid Morganna" doing appearances.
I would be reading stories with an educational theme. Most of the books would be the same ones I read to the disabled children I used to work with. They teach interpersonal skills (being polite and making friends), taking responsibility (don't lie to get out of trouble) and environmental preservation (don't waste water, recycling is important, etc) and a few that are just learning about sea creatures. We would also be doing art projects either every week or every other week.
I am excited and really hope this works out in my favor!
Anyway...does anybody who may have more experience performing than I do have any tips or suggestions? Also, even though my list of children's books that I have lesson plans to is long, I would love anybody's input on Oean-y books to read or recycled art projects to do. Google can only get me so far! lol
Thanks!!!
(SO EXCITED!!!!!! :D)

Thank you!!!
I have The Rainbow Fish. I've never heard of The Mermaid Who Couldn't Swim, but I will look for it!
I am trying to find a book, and I can't remember the name or who it is by, but I remember it is about ocean creatures that use camouflage and the pages are all abstract and colorful. Like the WHOLE page. Any idea's anyone?

For books I can't help at the moment but I'm writing a fairytale that talks about two special friends who eventually will turn into a mermaid and a merman and I can translate it for your children of you would like to read it to them :)

I'm doing the same thing at my local library starting Jan. 2015 - a monthly mermaid storytime series. I've been looking through the library's holdings for water-related books, and also finding new ones for them to acquire for me to read. Here's the list I have so far:
Over in the ocean: in a coral reef, by Marianne Berkes - a retelling of a traditional folk song, "Over In The Meadow." I'm going to sing this one to the kids.
Ten little fish, by Audrey Wood. I bought some little finger puppets that look just like the fish in this book. I'll have some of the kids use the puppets to illustrate the story.
The sign of the seahorse : a tale of greed and high adventure in two acts, by Graeme Base. I loved Base's book, Animalia. This one looks cool, too.
The coral reef: a giant city under the sea, by Stephen Person. This will tie in with our musical theatre production, "City Beneath the Sea."
Mister Seahorse, by Eric Carle.
Fancy Nancy and the mermaid ballet, by Jane O'Connor.
A manatee morning, by Jim Arnosky.
Deep Sea Farm, by Dahlov Ipcar.
Seahorses, by Jennifer Keats Curtis.
Weedy Seadragons, by Ryan Durney.
The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish, by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. This one will tie in with our musical goldfish work.
The Brave Mermaid, by Mermaid Kariel

Mermaid Kassandra, that would be awesome!!! It would be great to read the kids a book written by a Mermaid! I think they would love it! I've always wanted to write a children's book, but I've just never really been any good at it. lol
And WOW Mermaid Galene. Thank you! I don't have any of those on my list! I will share share my list with you too as soon as I can!

Congrats! I thought about seeing if the hospital my mother works at would like a mermaid in the children's area when my merbella comes in. I had not considered the library... Too bad the only librarian I have it in with lives 7 hours away from me. XD
