Here's Rowan's gorgeous Fin Fun printed spandex tail, matched with their swimsuits.
I have to say, you may not get a lot of propulsion from the Fin Fun monofin, but their mermaid scale print is astoundingly beautiful in the water!

Attachment 23684Attachment 23685 The back and the front of my very first tail. I just finished sewing everything, It's a plain Lycra fabric tail. The purple is lighter than it looks and I did some fin detail work on it. I haven't swam in it yet but I'm gonna wear a plain black bikini bra. I'm thinking on adding some scrap purple fabric around the edges at the top to stop from the continuous black effect the bra has with the top of the tail. Any opinions from more experienced mers? (btw sorry about the random leg in the pic)
It looks like you won't be a tail-less mermaid much longer! The scrap purple would go well with the top, though the simple bikini bra is also a reasonable option; a mermaid should think about whether the biologically "fish" part of her extends above the waist at all, and if so she needs to be able to explain why only the bra area is also fish-like! :mermaid kiss:

Ooooooh! It's very PotC! How's it swim?
It's great! Not fast though. The extension is very floppy and if I swim faster than a graceful 'walk' so to speak, it causes a ton of drag by flopping funny. It's pretty underwater though, very fluid and smooth. And believe it or not I extended it with zip ties and gorilla tape and it's held up great! Especially after I left it in a hot car and the adhesive melted a little. :)

That is wonderful news! I of all people can attest to how joyful an occasion it is when one's family finally accepts one's 'being born in the wrong body' (or ~half the wrong body in the case of most mermaids...lol)! :mermaid kiss:
So you all know I'm working on a tail, I'll post pictures when it's done, but funny story, my dad is the only one who knows I'm making it (outside of my social networking and I haven't even mentioned it on Facebook) and when it's done I'm going to take it for a swim and have my dad bring my mom to where I'm swimming. Otherwise I'd get a lot of negativity.
So you're just going to "come out" to her by having her see you swimming as a big fish? That could work; if she is something of a naysayer she could be sufficiently impressed by the final product to think more positively of you as a mermaid in future! I wish and pray for the best! :mermaid kiss:
Pretty much. Even if she doesn't approve I'm an adult and I do what I want! Haha and she'll probably complain mostly about the money and I'll just point out that I didn't pay 600+ for it and only made it for ~150 purely from etsy profits.
