TAMW you are swimming happily in your tail and a lovely little girl wants to be friends and chat up for a bit. She starts with the usual stuff (are you real, do you know Ariel...), and then all of a sudden she asks if there are witches in the sea. "I have never seen one", you answer, and then she proceeds to tell you to be very careful, just in case, so they may not catch you. Also, do you know that under the floor there is a giant firepit and a demon? Yes, the floor is there so we cannot see them, and you know who put the floor there? It was god, because god has made everything. And do you know what a church is? It's where god is, and his mother too. They are there in pictures and songs. And I know a song, but it is in another language.
And you, the atheist mermaid, don't know what to do. I just kept looking at her with a surprised face saying "Really?" and "Oh, wow!".
Hahaaha Talia! I can just picture your eyes just getting bigger and bigger with each revelation that little friend of yours said!!! I LOVE kids' imaginations! At least you weren't bored! lol I'll bet Raina must get an earful too! I'll have to ask her about that sometime.
I LOVE that story!
On the other fin, I had a little girl ask me so earnestly "If I pray to Jesus REALLY HARD, will he make me into a mermaid like you?"
It was hilarious, really!
Pearlie, she also said that she had made a wish in her birthday to have wings and be a mermaid  But then the wish never came true. And her mom says sometimes wishes do not come true, but she really really wanted to be a mermaid.
She was one of the sweetest girls I have seen while mermaiding.
That awkward moment when a supervisor from your old job shows up at your new job, sneaks up on you, and starts singing his own variations of songs from The Little Mermaid very loudly, and then your current supervisor joins in just because he loves showtunes, and then they ask you to sing with them while you're trying to ring out this very annoyed customer's purchase.
After taking care of that customer, I finally agreed to sing with them, but I started singing Never Gonna Give You Up instead, which earned groans and facepalms from them both, after which I had to make some introductions because they didn't actually know each other.
That awkward moment when M3 airs the rick astley song just as you read "never gonna give you up"

That awkward moment when you somehow turn a conversation into it being about mermaids and then you get down on the floor to act out what you are talking about and flop around pretending to be a mermaid that just took over a boat and realized she can't stand to steer the boat. Too much coffee... yes that is it.
I want to hear more about God's mother!
TAMW one is hand sewing velcro to her fluke and thinks, "Do I really need this tail that much?"
Yesssss....
TAMW one wakes up on a Thursday and starts preparing for her weekly swim, only to find out after Dad has left with her brother to visit Mum in the hospital, that its actually Wednesday!
THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR THE FIRE ANGEL SEA DRAGON! Oh, the conversations we could have.... :mermaid kiss::rainbow::cthulhu:
(Pearlie, your story reminds me of something on the wall of the United Church in which I had my Why GOD Doesn't Hate You launch party: someone had asked Jesus for a Pegacorn (also called a Unisus; a pegasus with a unicorn's horn or a unicorn with pegasus wings, depending upon one's perspective....Think Princess Celestia) and provided a hand-drawn illustration so that He would know what to bestow!)
God's mother certainly sounds like the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary to me, and the emphasis placed upon her strongly suggests this girl was a lovely little Roman Catholic! :mermaid kiss:
I thought Roman Catholic as well, especially because distinguishing between God the father and Jesus can get confusing to little ones. Like trying to figure out what a second cousin is.
I remember reading somewhere, maybe Gnostic texts (?), that the Holy Spirit was female, but was phased out as Christianity moved more towards patriarchy...use the BVM and female Holy Ghost to convert the goddess worshipping Pagans, but shut that down once you got them baptised.
I want a pegacorn!
