Is there anyone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup in the water? I'm a big fan of natural looks, and mermaids wouldn't really have access to makeup anyway ... :/

I just wear waterproof eyeliner and mascara. Also brow liner. Otherwise I have no eyebrows
Feel free to friend me on Facebook
I usually just wear some shiny green/gold eyeshadow (just a little if I'm swimming, but more if it's a dry public gig), a little brow pencil that I always wear, and my usual lipstain...basically I like the natural look enhanced just a smidge b/c I think mermaids would have a little bit more of a sheen or glow to them naturally. I usually don't wear eyeshadow, so the shiny green/gold is to me part of getting into my mer-self like putting on my tail
I bet a lot of mers use little to no makeup, especially in the water, but I guess it depends on what they are doing as far as performing or taking photos vs a casual swim in public.

I usually only use waterproof mascara, but lately not even that. I love lip colors but haven't worn them lately. So lately zero makeup here.
Makeup is really just there for enhancing features people are confident about, or instilling a sense of that confidence. It's not a big deal if you wear any or not, and if you do - the more natural you keep it (in my opinion), the more realistic it is that a mermaid looks like that naturally (since you're probably right that real mermaids would not have access to makeup).
I wear no make up because as you said a real mermaid don't have any mascara, gloss, eyeliner etc.... (i'm not saying that who wears make up is a bad mermaid!) moreover I'm more interested in what children think about mermaid and what I can do to make this mith stay alive in their mind. I totally agree with what you said Spindrift!

I don't mer yet but I have a weird thing about makeup for myself. I don't mind it on others but as a child I always found the idea of altering your appearance to be really weird...like, really weird, lol! I found facepaint scary and makeup just strange. I don't mind it as much but I'm very happy with my appearance. I love how Raina & Naida & Ama do their makeup for gigs but I don't think it'd personally be for me.
I don't mer yet either, and I don't think I could ever do it professionally. But if I did, I'm not sure which way I would go. I have one of those plain, average faces that people forget the moment they walk away. But maybe that's good for mermaiding. It's about the concept, not the individual right?
When I go face-painting, I only wear eyeliner and mascara, when I'm swimming of just being a mermaid I usually do some more make-up.
I've never really bothered with makeup in the water. I rarely wear makeup normally, so I've never seen much point in spending mucho moneies for waterproof versions of things I don't wear anyway.

I don't tend to wear any make-up in the water. I have worn stage make up for dance performances and I know there are waterproof varieties, but I just never really had the desire to wear it. I may for the 13th though since it will be more like a real photo shoot.

It better not to wear makeup (personally). It just gets everywhere.

This thread is for me!
I've never worn make-up. Not even when performing professionally.
Now, for photos or camera shoots, some tiny bit of mascara and eyeshadow probably doesn't hurt,
but I wouldn't wear that when swimming, water + make-up doesn't go well together
(Yea I know synchro swimmers wear heavy stuff, but they are a long distance from the judges and audience.
As a performing mermaid, you'd look a bit silly wearing so much paste and colour imo)
I wear waterproof makeup, but a lot of times if I do spontaneous swims on vacation etc I've got nothing on
^^
Yea, and this girl belongs to the category "super pretty, and would even look better without make-up"
Yeah, I agree... too much going on with all that blue around her eyes. I want people's first impression of my face to be 'pretty eyes/nice skin/pretty lips/etc etc'. If their first thought is 'omg makeup', I figure I did something wrong. Of course for some, it's an artistic expression to put on a lot of color. I just like my face to look like I'm wearing nothing, even if it is one of the very rare times I'm actually wearing some.

A lot of people forget its just a tutorial. You don't have to wear blue, she just demonstrates with blue so she can match her tail
