Thread: Show us your tail designs!

  1. #381
Here are two possible designs for my neoprene/sequin weedy seadragon tail. The first one would have a light yellowish neoprene base painted to a pumpkin color with airbrush, and navy neoprene fluke with the accent colors done in sequins and the fluke layered with chiffon or spandex:

The second design is the same except the base neoprene is all orange flame neoprene, which would eliminate most of the painting. Accent colors again in sequins:

    Whaddayathink?

I think I'm leaning toward the second, just because it would be less painting. The monofin will be my new, clear Hydra.

I'd say go for less painting. Both pictures are equally beautiful.

See, now I say go for the one you love most. Even if it's more painting, isn't it worth it?

  5. #385
You're right, Pearlie! Now I just have to decide which one I like the most, lol!

One thing I've realized is that I really don't need sequins on this tail. Seadragons don't have scales, so there's no particular reason to spend hundreds of hours sewing on sequins. I'll just use pearlescent Lumiere paints, and save the sequin sewing for another tail.

hey guys, i've been lurking this forum for a while but this is my first actual post so let's hope everything posts correctly! i've got 2 designs i'm trying to decide on for a neoprene/sequin tail i hope to make this summer. they're both the same basic idea, just different color schemes based on which type of sequins i decide to go with [i'm anxiously awaiting updates to melaina's sequin reference thread]. they're sorta... koi/whitemargin unicornfish hybrids with sequin scales and painted flukes??

^this one would have white floor matting fringe on the back/sides/fluke. and it would use the larger, round sequins from cartwright, which are my favorite.

^and this one would have either white or black floor matting fringe on the fluke, and white/black ombre chainette fringe on the sides/back. it would use the smaller sequins from cartwright
sorry for the long post, let me know if anything didn't post correctly/ should be posted to a different thread! and wonderful work, everyone.

oh no worries, i can imagine it takes a while to do such extensive tests! that thread is really fantastic for making designs based on the sequin types, it's actually the entire reason that my pink design exists

The Wraith Mermaid, sometimes referred to as Wraithmaids, were considered an ill omen by sailors of the Great Lakes. Given their ghostly-white bodies and solid black eyes, many believed them to be the spirits of women lost at sea, or widows searching for their drowned sailors. Wraithmaids travel in groups of 3 to 9, and they search out sunken vessels to live in. Their tattered fins are a result of jagged edges and hazards that come with navigating a ruined ship. They stay in the freezing waters of Superior, Huron, Michigan and Ontario because the freshwater and cold temperatures preserve the wrecks far longer than seawater.

Some wraiths can live hundreds of years in the Great Lakes, surfacing only during fierce storms. They can sense a dying ship and will circle it for hours, waiting for the decent of their new home. Any sailor who caught sight of a wraith knew his struggling vessel was doomed.
ALL OF MY YES!!! So THAT'S what haunts White Fish Point? or is that why they CALL IT White fish Point? I miss MI

My selkie tail design so for now, probably tweak it latter on
This is a pretty cool selkie design! I've been toying with the idea of making a more selkie-like tail or a more ancient fish kind of tail.
Guess I'll need to do more research. And then actually make a decision on which one. :P

Just a few drawings of ideas I've had. The pictures didn't show the colors too well, though. :/
