TAWM when you're giving mermaid rides to your niece in the shallow beach end of another pool (that you plan to make your new splash home), and there is a queue forming up behind her.
TAWM when parents think you're part of the staff and they take out their cameras, phones etc, before you can stop them, they take pics of you.
TAWM when a lifeguard tells them you're not part of the pool.
Now just imagine how awkward it would be if those all happened at the same time! ^

I really really dread the event that I DO give my niece mermaid rides at the pool. After reading round here of the horror stories of kids jumping on people's backs and pulling their fins... Every time I think of the current house move and then finding a new pool to swim at, its terrifying and my heart won't stop pounding!
Well I've had a few kids hanging on me and as long as they're gentle it isn't so bad. They just have to know not to tug and only one kid at a time

That awkward moment when you're helping the sibling and the in-law move into their new apartment and the in-law suggests that you have the movers carry you into the second-floor apartment sitting on the couch in your tail. In-law suggests this very loudly in front of the neighbors AND the movers.
I weigh roughly 300lbs, so there was no way that could happen. The movers would have died.
And then, that awkward moment when the sibling explains to the movers that you're a mermaid.

TAMW you are craving a swim so much, that the local campus pond (covered in algae and geese) looks very VERY inviting.
TAMW a dorm-hall neighbor recognizes your NC-Merfest shirt and wants to take a photo because they once hired a mermaid in the area to freak out their coach in the middle of training at the local aquatic center. (said neighbor had one of those 'merpeople freak me out a little' faces on).
TAMW you are excited about the campus olympic pool . . . but then turns out they are going to be remodeling it for at least a year.
TAMW you are trying on your tails in the middle of your dorm living-room and your dorm mates decide to open the door for everyone in the hall to see while you are incapacitated by a huge green fish tail. They had a good laugh. I did too XD.
