Thread: Better Body Goals-Accountability Thread

  1. #681
Most nutritionists and doctors - even many specialists - are seriously uninformed about gluten. Celiac is just one extreme on a continuum of gluten sensitivities, and gluten intolerance can lead to other diseases, as well. I do not have celiac. However, I had some genetic testing done, and I do carry a gene for gluten intolerance. Before I knew this, I became seriously ill with gluten poisoning. I was losing 1-2 pounds a week for no reason, my hair was falling out, and I ended up with collagenous colitis. My online research led me to the gluten intolerance conclusion. Within months of giving up gluten entirely, I stopped losing weight, my hair grew back, and my colitis went into remission. And then I found a good gastroenterologist who knew about the gluten-colitis connection and has supported me with excellent care and advice ever since. I continue to avoid gluten as scrupulously as any celiac would!

You are all beautifully and wonderfully made! Though it is nice to have goals like that! I need someone to hold ME accountable for my work out routines or I will forget about it in 2 days!!

What Galene said. If you have an intolerance to gluten, it's an insidious thing. Also, doctors will tell you there's nothing wrong and it's all in your head. But if you cut out gluten and your symptoms improve or disappear, then there's something really there, celiac or intolerance.

Celiac can also chill out, dormant, in your body until a stresser kicks into overdrive. I was perfectly fine with gluten until I had to shove out a 9 pound baby with a massive head. I did the blood test and tested positive for Celiac, been gluten free (mostly, gluten is a sneaky beast) for a few years now. In the past year I also developed an intolerance to corn and all it's many byproducts, I have to make my own toothpaste now because the Xyletol makes me loagy and bloated

Thanks so much everyone for your comments on gluten. My mom got me a cool GF cookbook, and I've been making meals out of it for a few days... apparently it takes your body some time to detox from the gluten and get over withdrawals (which makes sense because I feel WORSE at the moment on day 2 of no gluten or dairy) but we shall see!!!

You will detox and feel like crap for a little bit. After about 2 weeks, you will notice some symptoms will just disappear, and you'll be like, "so THIS is what it feels like to feel 'well!'" It actually can take a couple of years to heal completely, depending on how long you went untreated. I had symptoms for over 12 years before figuring it out, and 3 years later I think I can say I'm fully recovered. But you should start feeling noticeably better really soon.

<3 Glad to hear that you're feeling better and found the cause. Let's hope this helps!

I like where my back and shoulders are at, I still want bigger arms and a bigger chest though. Need to lose a couple more pounds of fat to really get my abs to pop.

    Wow, looking good, Coradion!

I'm starting to do workouts, focusing largely on my core and thighs/butt area. I want to firm up that whole area a bit, LOL!

In the meantime, I've been making bust-enhancing tea and seeing great results!

SeaGlass Siren, I noticed that when I first went on the pill, but after the first month it seemed to go away. There are all kinds of gross biological reasons for it but it's soooo worth it to not have horrible cramps/babies. :P
