Thread: Finfolk Productions: anyone ordered a tail from them? I just did!

I think it's less about hiring more employees or the wait time, and more about an efficient and organized communication system. Facebook is a pretty terrible platform for using for business, but great for marketing. FF has always been diligent about responding to messages for me, but I can't imagine what their inbox looks like with all the little ones who want free tails and people with questions who don't read the FAQ.

I think all tail makers could do with a good secretary Someone who's job it is to simply filter emails, sorting spam from actual orders, keep current clients updated on tail progress and answer questions (after asking the tail maker of course) and keeping the orders organised, maybe taking down notes about the orders or client questions/requests to be passed on to the tail maker. I could see potential problems with a system like that, maybe even something like an intern who just came in a couple of days a week (one day for spam sorting, one day for client emails or something). I don't know. This is why I'm not a tail maker hahah.

Well I was a merbellas secretary. It didnt work. Raven had people help her... Didnt work. I think a lot of peoples opinions come from what they'd like to happen. Not what is realistic.

There are standards in loads of fields. Its why they use mystery shoppers. There's also laws. Quality control. Cars and car companies have to adhere to a set of standards both in product and customer service. Its really not that far fetched an idea and happens already.

Honestly, my experience with the twins was very good. Looking back, I had no communication problem with them.

They were both very excited to make my tail and they were 100% committed to make sure that I would love it and be very happy. Which I am and I look forward to discuss with them about the second. I already made a deposit with an added cost (rush fees) to make sure that I would get it for Spring or before Summer 2015. For now, I'm still waiting that they finish moving to their new home in Hawaii. I can't say much to reassure all of you that are actually waiting because I got lucky with my first tail and my process lasted 5 months from ordering to receiving the tail home. That happened right before they got really popular while Summer 2014 was approaching.

I'm sure there is going to be a period of adjustment as they reset up their work space and have to adjust their methods for a different environment and weather conditions

So this summer I might be adding a dorsal fin (maybe more fins) to my tail! I talked to Abby and Bryn about it and they're more than happy to do it! I'll be in Oahu this summer so I'll be able to drop my tail off there (while of course getting some great photos first ) that will avoid the shipping costs there, I'll just have to pay for the shipping back

You sure about that? I LOVE the classic look of your tail
It's a very pretty green and the color scheme is really flattering on you.

Thank you!!! I won't be adding much I don't think, the colors will remain the same and everything, it will just be some sort of dorsal (or heel fins) added, I think a dorsal with the golden color at the tips would look wonderful

Always nice to have options! I can't wait to see your tail in person soon, it's so pretty in photos! I decided against a dorsal just because I will be spending a lot of time sitting in my tail, and didn't want it to get damaged or be uncomfortable.

You're right, it does happen already but in huge industries. Those laws are enforced by the government and are laws, not just contracts. Not only would you have to get every single tail maker who enters the market to agree to these standards, but find a legal way for them to be enforced. Mermaid tail making is already a very small market and putting limits on it would slow growth.

Standards are a great idea but I just don't think it's going to happen any time soon. Mernetwork has already made an excellent source for reviews and information. I think we should focus more on educating the consumer to help him or her have the best purchasing experience. Hopefully with growth in the competitive market firms will raise standards on their own in order to stay on top.

I'm glad you're keeping the colors the same because I swear your tail is one of my favorite of Finfolks color-wise. <3 It's so beautiful. I think a gold tipped dorsal would look amazing, but I'm personally obsessed with dorsals so I may be a bit biased.

I'm happy to say I think I FINALLY got my tail design down solid and when I posted it to my Facebook the twins seemed to be excited to work on it, so I'm excited to see it come to life! Ahh, it's so soon now!

Do you know when your tail's being started? That's so exciting!

They didn't say any specific date yet, but they messaged me last Tuesday and said it'd be starting as soon as the studio is set up (which I'm assuming is any day now)!
Sadly I *might* have to resend in my measurements (which terrifies me since I had them do it in-person last time, so there was no stress about getting it wrong), but they offered to Skype and help me step by step so I don't mind it at all. The skyping makes me feel so much better about it and I have been working out more, so maybe it happened for a reason .
I'm also going to be sending in a bra for my top too (because ever since my reduction, my breasts love to fluctuate between sizes, so sending in a bra just helps give me peace of mind it will be the right size). I'm excited about that as well because all I've ever had are fabric swim tops, haha.
Sorry, I'm getting so excited, I feel like I could type forever. XD
Yours is still starting in December, right? I forgot, did you decide on a design yet?

I've just noticed something in the Magictail tail design contest that really annoys me. One of the front runners has used one of finfolk's official photos of a particular tail, recoloured it and then put it on Magictail's template. It is really pretty but I can't help but think it is a bit wrong. I've tagged Finfolk in a comment about it but don't know whether to bother them with a message about it or not. I feel like a dobber or quite petty but it isn't just ripping off a design it is also stealing someone elses photo. What say you all?

I actually voted for that design, but I didn't bother to open the photo up larger than the thumbnail... I feel wronged somehow xD
It seems all she's done is play with the colour levels in photoshop or whatever. I doubt she actually hand-coloured that. Super disappointing

I did the same thing. I loved the colours and the idea of putting printed fins on the body then opened it up larger to find that it was a recoloured photo.
I tagged them in it and then Syrena tagged them too so hopefully they see it (or see this post )
Just really annoying how people think that sort of thing is acceptable. And to think that it is looking like it could win! Hopefully Magictail would realise at somepoint.
Ah I hate being a tattle tale but I couldn't stand by and let it happen!

They posted this a few hours ago.
I'm not following the contest, but hopefully its the design you're talking about.
