One thing I immediately thought of is that i'd probably end up being uncomfortable real fast. I need some sort of back support. Sledded into my church's brick wall a few years ago. Fun story. Back still hurts :/

Anyway maybe you could make some sort of a cover for a chair that looked like rock- like maybe a canvas cover with paint. I guess you'd have to find something to put on it to make it stiffer than regular canvas, I guess so it could have more of a rock texture or something. That way you'd be more comfortable sitting for a long period of time. That's what I'd be worried about with the seating.

I'm sure there are better ideas though. It's just a thought. I feel like a bench sort of seat or something you can fit multiple people on might be better. Then people could sit and have their pictures taken with you. I think I've seen people just use decorative fabric on top a regular old bench and it looked okay.

actually since your just sitting on it in one place? wood, wire, foam, and paint.so easy and the wood only costs $2.12 at home depot. chicken wire is wrapped around or you can use plank wood. put the stuff over it .tacky in 15 minutes. dry in a few hours.spray paint it. tada! will look like a volcano rock.

Maybe take a padded chair, wrap the parts you aren't sitting on with wire, spray all of it an paint? Still provides back support, still looks like a rock.

Instead of a rock, maybe a Birth of Venus inspired seashell might work instead, particularly if you built a mobile loveseat out of it.

Oh! Lovely, Joy! I had a mermaid barbie who came with her own seashell. All her little accessories and a mini mermaid were in it. It was all very clever. Her tail lit up, too. I wish I knew where she went. It was an awesome barbie...

I don't know how realistic this needs to be, but with comfort in mind, may I suggest a beanbag chair with a painted drop cloth over it?

Use a chair, chicken wire, that expanding foam stuff, and spray paint. That should give you back support!

    hi guys
i have my wooden structure for my rock. im gonna had a back support. but i have a question: next step is to take chicken wire to form a shape of a rock. ive found a site in french that says to make the shape with the wire then stuff it with newspaper and then put stripe of plaster then paint it. heres my question, i gonna sit on it and im afraid the side of the structure will not be hard, so would it be better to stuff it with newspaper under the wire and add high density foam( that one that is in a can and expand) and let the foam expend so that i dont see the chicken wire and paint the foam?i think merman jesse did something like that i dont want to had too much weight too. thanks for the help!

i found this: do you think its good?
There are situations that end users wish to create fake rocks with some degrees of structural functions. These include structures that can be sit on or walk on. Guidelines for creating fake rocks with some degrees of structural functions:
    1. Create the core structure with lumbers (2x4's).
    2. Staple cardboards over the wood structure.
    3. Attach chicken wires to the structure and further refine the shape by adjusting the chicken wire layers.
    4. Spray foam over the completed structure.
    5. Refine and adjust the full expanded foam structure.
    6. Protect the final structure with exterior or latex paint.

even with that step by step, my first question still is on? do i stuffed only with newspaper or with newspaper and foam and paint the foam? if yes, any high density foam you can suggest?

The newspaper sounds like the weakest option for helping support the structure. The cardboard and foam sound better.

I'd make it with chickenwire, cardboard, and foam, but I don't have any expertise on this so I'm really just guessing. Whatever you do, if you finish with enough time to test it out and possibly make changes then you can afford to try different things.

i didnt stuff tho that seems like a good idea. putting foam on the wire mesh was difficult.you need like 10 cans. i need to post pics of mine soon.i should be working right now.any foam works.mine came with a straw attachment. dont use it.

for a support, you could probably build it around a chair like so:
    Name: Untitled.png
Views: 484
Size: 12.1 KB
the x in the picture is the seat part. to make it comfortable but still look like a rock, you could use expanding foam painted and cut to look like rock.
(you don't really see the chair it's inside the hollow rock. you could probably use a piece of plywood underneath it attached to the ends of the rock so it's all one piece but still hollow and light weight)
