Finally found the mermaid maker I keep seeing icons and such from. Tried it out with similar coloring and fins to what I would like my ideal tail to look like (a bit more gradient and a bit different dorsal/pectoral fin shape but still). Though I also really like the coloring on this one (it's a bit more fantasy than my other one). Maybe I'll someday be able to save up for both (right....)?

I did some quick design sketches to show my photographer friend (who inspired me to make this tail). The fluke and fin shapes may change a little, but they'll be chiffon with boning in the darkest section, so I want them to still be flowy. Body references from SenshiStock on DA.


And these are the fabrics. The top three are the sheers (far left is almost exactly my skintone, and a flowy top (lined) will be made out of it). The lighter ivory lycra will line the sequin (as it's semisheer), and the bottom right fabric swatch will be the back of the tail.

I have found MY fluke! I know it took several tails to figure it out, it is me. It swims beautifully in the water, and I am getting used to the weight of this tail more than my other Finis Foil tails.

That's cool! Did you extend a Foil?

Nope. I didn't end up extending my Foil. I couldn't bring myself to alter such a beautiful paddle!

I totally will! I ordered swatches of a bunch of stuff, as you can see, and I'm planning on lining the whole tail with another layer of lycra. I like the look of the Neoprene tails (being more solid and smooth), but since I can't get these patterns in that, obviously, I'm layering up. I may end up making a neoprene lining at some point, I'm not sure. I think it's a little thin to just be one layer on its own, though, for sure.

This is my sketch. I am a horrible artist, sorry. Also, I might make a few small changes, as I either make mistakes, or see see other things that I like that I decide to incorporate into my design.

Not that I have the time for it, but I thought of something a while back and had a few moments at work to throw this together...I'm thinking of a green tail, VERY fish green, not Ariel-like at all...muted natural colors, and acanthus scrollwork for the fluke. Of course, the top would be all seaweedy scrollwork, too.

If one day, in the far streched future I get enough money to have a silicone tail, I would just love to earn one like this one.... With the colors of the first picture and the fluke of the second
