    Mermaid Newbie from Lake MI

Hello everyone! I'm Critter. Not really sure how to find a mermaid name.

My story is pretty classic. I grew up watching movies like The Little Mermaid and Splash. I loved the water, couldn't get enough of it, and hated being called in by my parents. The place I wanted to be most was the water.

I used to sing "Part of Your World", only I meant the opposite direction then how the song was originally intended. I've always wondered why mermaid media was written about them coming to our world and not more about their society. Currently enjoying Sacred Breath by Nadia Scrieva though.

Although I have never been published, I love to write. One character in particular has haunted me over the past few years, a mermaid. It was when I began to study her and her world that I discovered how real mermaids are. Hint, I'm talking about you here. I can certainly see how this particular activity is a lifestyle much more than a hobby. How much more real can a mermaid get, imho?

I have a hurdle to cross before I earn my tail, however. I'm out of shape and over weight. I want to lose at least 100 pounds before I get my first tail. I'm joining you in the sea of the www to keep myself inspired until then.

Dont wait. I too am overweight but I said screw it and joined in the fun. Mermaids come in all sizes small med and large.

Personal reasons for wanting to wait, Selina. I know there are bigger mermaids, but I would like to wait to get my tail until I've lost a few pounds. HOWEVER, I will be working on training until I get my tail. Learning to hold my breath, the dolphin kick, and increasing my swimming skills. Those sorts of things!

Haha! LOL. So sweet! But... you sure they're strong enough? Maybe a grand pair of dolphins would be better.

Thanks for the warm welcome every one. Muir, how... poetic! Poetry is a classic sea thing and mermaids are known for their singing voices, which is poetry set to music. However, my mind has a hard time understanding the abstract. I've tried it, but can't really grasp it. No, I'm a prose writer.

Welcome!!! A mermaid tail will be an awesome way to motivate and then reward yourself for your goals. I'm hoping to lose weight and gain strength/endurance through mermaiding as well. Glad you found the MerNetwork, it is seriously invaluable.

Take your time with your mermaid name. Maybe as you grow as a mer, one will present itself to you as the perfect fit!

Thank you, Calaeno. I certainly want to grow strong as a swimmer before putting on my tail. And I think waiting would be an awesome way to get fit. I have family that passed away in bad shape; I want to get healthy NOW before it gets any worse!

Thank you for the greetings and good intentions, Pearl!
