Nice! There's a deaf woman at my climbing gym. It would be nice to sign to her, instead of her having to read my lips.
I found out recently that there's a school offering 10-week ASL classes and the next one starts in January. I've been looking forward to it ever since and can't wait for it to start. I have trouble speaking sometimes and I feel like signing might help me (tend to use my hands a lot during those times anyway). Also, I've always thought it would be really helpful with scuba so you could actually talk to your dive partner about what you're seeing and what's going on. There's also a family whose little girl I'm helping with English and they want me to try teaching her baby sign/ASL too if I can. Having people to practice with was the part that worried me most so I'm really glad I found this thread. Thanks, Lotus!

I just found out my local community college offers ASL! The only issue is that it will be a little over $400 and I really can't afford that with rent stuffs right nowBut I'm gonna save up and hope to take it next fall!
