I wonder how old commenters like this are...it sounds like someone who used to really believe is getting their bubble burst! I image now that every 6 year old has an iPad they're starting to do their own detective work and discover that their Disney fantasy magic is just make believe!

While there are loads of brainless comments on YT, I think the "I can see your knees"-etc complaint that often surfaces is due to many mers not doing the dolphin kick very well.
In some cases, it looks so bad my own knees start hurting in sympathy.
On videos where divers etc do a good dolphin kick, I've never seen such comments.
People usually say "beautiful form" or "you look like a fish/mermaid" etc. instead.
that may be, but it doesnt excuse rude behavior. (as im sure you agree) I am capable of doing a decent dolphin kick, but for underwater mermaid videos, i sacrifice form for personality and disney princess mermaid posing lol
Right but those divers aren't wearing floaty silicone. This has been as issue as long as people have dressed up like mers and I don't feel there's any valid reasoning. Plus it always comes from people who aren't mers and have never freedived

And I mean who decided perfectly straight legs even is a safe or proper form for tails? Tail swimming has loads of dynamics regular dolphin kick doesn't. I think my study is a great example of that.

I literally uploaded a video of me swimming in it the next day, and had like a dozen other videos of me swimming in it by the time they found the video. This was uploaded 2 1/2 years ago and this person didn't even bother to check my channel before getting super upset?? Or even click the suggested videos on the side pannel, or at the end- because they all have at least one of my swimming videos suggested. The top is always my first swim video from what I've seen. X_x ~logic~
Why in the world would they bother to write a mini paper about seeing your knees!? They even said they can't swim and don't have the desire to wear a tail - they can't really critique you if they have never swam before to know what it is like trying to swim without bending your knees.
In my opinion mermaid tails are far more realistic than many other fantasy things because a lot of fantasy costumes aren't fully functional. For example, you can have big pretty angel wings, but you can't fly with them. BUT, you can have a big pretty fluke and swim with it too.
