I quit facebook. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. My actual friends kept in touch, the rest faded away, so I can spend more time and effort on my real friends. Also, all the unnecessary drama disappeared! There are other ways to market your mer-business outside of Facebook that won't get you caught up in the "social" parts of social media.

I'm not really doing a merbusiness. I don't do gigs. The only thing that I have that is actually public with all my merstuff is my fan page. Still, it might have something to do with my interest in merfolk and membership in groups for merfolk. I made a few groups for merfolk, and I'm just trying to do stuff in an honest way. It's just a pain that I seem to attract these kinds of people. Even without the merstuff. I could still end up attracting them. It's so frustrating. I see your point though, but I honestly don't want to give up Facebook unless I absolutely have to. I guess I shouldn't be complaining because a part of me wants my merman presence out there. I wanted to be a merman or merboy since I was like 4 or 5. The biggest reason I didn't embrace that side of me was because I didn't know just how many mermen things were out there. I want any kids that were like me to know that it isn't such a weird thing that they have to keep that part of themselves a secret. Part of me wishes I could have it both ways, but I'm greatful for this thread. It has helped me work through most of my issues.

If I may cut in, there are some posts here I've seen that are supposed to be screen shots of merverts, but they're actually just niusances at worst. We need to be careful not to confuse them. It can be quite uncomfortable to receive a message from an unknown male and especially, a persistent one, but unless he's making sexual remarks or asking for photos, to label him a "mervert" can be severely damaging. Not only to the male in question, but to credibility of mers. Not to belittle feelings! If someone makes you uncomfortable for any reason, by all means block them and don't be afraid to mention it to your brothers and sisters in the community. But don't label them "merverts" unless they really earn it.

Let me make a correction.

I don't know if I would automatically call any of the following merverts, but I figured that it can't hurt to share this just in case a pattern develops. I'd say that Michael Louis should at least be on a watch list just to be safe rather than sorry. If he proves to be completely harmless, I don't mind deleting my posts. However, The vibes from this guy are very off and his account is almost completely fake. I'm not outright trying to call him a mervert, but at the same time, I think it's important to at least bring it to people's attention that there has been at least a couple of issues. He may not be a mervert, but he could be something else. I don't know. I'll share the screenshots if there is ever a need for it.

To be honest, a number of other messages I get may be more like cat calling type messages which are extremely annoying to get, but I feel like this is something that I don't need to share on here.





I really didn't go any further with this guy, but I personally feel like someone asking for my tail is an invasion of personal space. He could be harmless or he could be interested in collecting. I don't know. Maybe, it's okay for this to be on here just in case someone else runs into an issue. I blocked him because he just didn't seem to take no for an answer even after I tried to tell him about tailmakers that could help him. I still feel like sharing the screenshots because this guy seemed to really want my tail, and I don't know where I could post this to get some kind of help figuring out how to deal with this.

On top of everything else, I think it might not be a bad idea to just have it here because of the possibility of any patterns developing, I've had Shagene creep up on my page, and I will admit that I seem to get what could be thought of as more of the cat calling stuff, I guess. The cat calling type stuff is extremely annoying. I kid you not. Is there a thread for dealing with that if not in this one? Anyways, I still really appreciate this thread because it has helped me figure out what to do when I feel uncomfortable. Still debating on whether or not I want to keep using social media like have. I've already deleted accounts I didn't need...

Also, one more thing, I believe someone ran into issues with merman triton and his other account merman kevin triton.

Quick jump in here. Guys and Gals if someone is harassing you please just block them and move along. Most of the time they want that engagement and attention. If they are being a creep, pervert, annoying, or whatever the case may be JUST BLOCK. Trust me it saves you all kinds of issues in the end. Then you can pass along the information to the rest of the Mer-community.

Now I have actually have had a problem with this "Merman" on facebook he goes by the name of Merman Triton and has another page called Triton Kevin Merman. He messaged me on his Merman Triton page spamming me with messages. I have seen other Mermaid's have been having issues with this guy. I instantly blocked him when he spammed me with a thousand messages all saying Mermaid and beautiful Mermaid. I'm not sure if he is a mervert or just a big nuisance. Like I said I have seen other Merfolk have issues with this guy so do yourselves a favor and ignore him.
