it's so crazy! all the colour change things I've seen so far consist of needing to use cold or heat but this doesnt appear to. I know Raven frequently experiments with new materials and tries things before they hit market so I wonder if this is one of her concoctions? I clearly havent been able to pin her down to ask haha

Well I've seen the technique in both a mer tailor tail and a lot of pearlie's scales before.

Those scales are gorgeous! I know Pearlie has been using those pigments for a long time now. Hers were the first I've ever seen with them. Just fyi. I know what they are but I can't tell

This wouldn't need temperature change because it's just a duochrome pigment - so it reflects different colours from different angles rather than actually changing from one colour to another.

    I want it.

I am so glad to see Raven's color changing is different from the others I have been seeing. Her method is more of what I was hoping to see in a color changing tail. This is all very exciting I had better start swimming more and saving up money!

Yeah I agree - it's really pretty and a bit more like real iridescent scales.

    I know those pigments!

I'm using the same for my new tail in green, gold and red. They're not real colors as they show only when the light hits them but they are really lovely

Also Nim freshwater used them for her tail (which she never finished)

    That does look gorgeous. ❤️

It looks like the same type of pigment Pearlie uses. I think I know what it is! (If not, I have some very similar pigments that give the same effect!)

I've never seen a tail that changes colour depending on temperature, but that would absolutely rock! A tail that changes colour if you're going from warm dry land into cooler water would be amazing. I'd love to see that!

Also, I love that pink tail. I don't often do pink, but that vibrant deep pink is stunning, and the black really sets it off beautifully. Raven definitely goes beyond 'tail maker' and is a true 'tail artist'. I love her work.

yes you made that abundantly clear with your comments on facebook.

Nowhere did raven claim to be the first, I saw Fifi experimenting with the same thing months ago as well. Mike van Daal did it 6 years ago.

i think it's really sad the amount of snark that came out of Raven posting a quick behind the scenes video of working on a tail. And how quick people are to jump to assign their own meaning to a fairly innocent post. left me really disappointed in a lot of people. Glad the comments were removed both from her Merbella's page, and Pearlie's initial post. (context for people who didn't see, a few snarky comments were made on Pearlie's posting about her technique, in reply to raven, which then carried over to some not so nice comments being left on raven's video, all of it 100% unnecessary)

I saw in the Facebook comments under the video of the iridescent tail that Raven said
"This tail MIGHT be one of the pre-made sets to be listed here."
    That would be sooo awesome!

For those who follow me on FB, I did get my sketches from Raven. She sent me a few of them and I picked my most favorite of the group. No work on production yet, but it is nice to have a small picture in my phone to help me keep going. Things have been hard, and the last two weeks have sucked for health: massive infection, concussion, then I got in a car accident last night. Having this little picture of a tail is the light in the darkness that I needed.

I can't share it, since I dont have permission to, and I think it might be more fun for it to be a surprise for everyone later.

    Little Orca - I hope you're ok!

Great news that you've got your sketch, though. I'm sure your tail will be worth the wait.
