Unhappy How do you prevent fading???

So my last fabric tail was dark blue shatter glass and when I wore it in the pool for 3hrs it started to turn silver where the mono-fin ribs are.
I am getting a blue-ish purple tail and top, but I'm afraid to wear it in the water I don't want it to fade such as the other tail did. Is there
anything I can do to prvent this from happening to my new tail? I really don't want it to fade, that would be sad : (

For my tails, when I swim in chlorinated water there is thankfully a wash at the pool I can dip my tail and fin in to help get the chlorine out. However, that does me little good if I am at the pool in a hotel room while on a trip. I got some swim suit cleaner (http://www.suit-saver.com/) from a pool shop online. It made the life of my blue tail longer, but cloth tails will fade over time.

Little Orca: It was weird though, While I was IN the water the color started to deplete! I rinsed it out and it never changed back! I knew it would fade overtime but not during my first swim! Oh, well I'll try the swimsuit wash for my next one. Thanx : )

Thats what I did... I'm thinking about painting it or dying it to cover up the markings : (

Maybe the fabric itself wasn't meant for swimming? Some spandex is only for dancewear and not swimming.

I double, triple checked to make sure it was good for swimming but that is a good point

I think the problem you are having is due to the friction on the monofin & fabric rather than the chlorine. Mine did the same thing unfortunately!

^ I had a tail with that exact fabric...until my car ruined it, that is :/.... that fabric never did what my shatter glass fabric did. Do you mers think it would be a good idea to attempt dying it back? I hate seeing it sit in my closet : (

This appears to be the work of an over chlorinated pool *head shake* When the chlorine is too high it can bleach your fabric. once on my swim team i got in the pool with a royal blue suit and got out with a grey one. They accidentally doubled the chlorine (i wont get into the chemical burns on my face) so maybe dont swim at that pool any more? haha

Saphira, it may be because the ribs are a high stress point for the material. They probably receive a lot of fabric movement while you swim. Something similar happens with my tail as well, only it is on the heel portion...

Aside from the stress of use, I think the best thing you can do is rinse it before and after you swim. I'm sure that the material is like hair in the sense that it will absorb non-chlorinated water, and help reduce the amount of water the material/hair takes in during your swim. Try rinsing it before and after to preserve it better...

    Good luck!
