    Having Troubles Finding Fake Seaweed

Ok, I can't find any fake seaweed. I know that there are fish tank plants, but aren't those fairly expensive? I don't have a Hobby Lobby or a michaels around, so count those out. I checked a walmart, but they didn't have any. So my question is, do the plants have to be for an aquarium? If so, where can I buy them in bulk? If not, why other types of plants can I buy?

Don't buy aquarium plants! You'll be broke!!

They are at Michaels, I bought mine there. It's with the fake flowers. You might have to dig around for it. And they are not labeled "Seaweed" I found mine with the vines for about $4-5. You get sooo much more than an aquarium plant. And you can save the rest for another top.

Thanks for your response. But the issue is, as I stated above, I don't have a michaels around.

You just need a store with a fake floral section. It doesn't even have to be a craft store, although you'll find more variety at craft stores. JoAnns has some great options as well! It’s not really “seaweed” but greenery plants that LOOK like seaweed. You can see from this picture that it can be all kinds of different types/shapes/colors. They’re really “pearl grass” “tea leaf” “bamboo”, ect. In the end if they look like they could pass for sea flora, go for it!

I go to the bargain stores and look in the pet sections, as then I can buy more or less the same as what's in a pet store for a couple of bucks

I order mine online at hobby lobbys website. My local hobby lobby never has anything in stock so ordering online is my only option. Yeah you won't find anything named seaweed or faux seaweed. We just use stuff that looks like seaweed or something of the sea

Thanks everyone!! I've been doing some research and there is a michaels an hour and a half away. Hopefully I'll be able to go there soon, and they will have plants. Why must all the good stores be far away?

Also, I realize this is pretty darn old. I'm mostly asking/suggesting because I'm interested in seaweed too. :P

Those would work fine! They're more plasticy which is the kind you want. I posed this picture above, so you can see "seaweed" is a very loose term for this. Pick what YOU think would look good

Yeah, I saw the picture above. Really great choices there, just can't really seem to find anything like it online! I guess I'll have to make a special trip sometime to the malls.

Yea, I found some at Michaels. I also found some at the dollar store. Not as good quality, but less than a fifth the cost. If i'm cutting it up nobody would notice anyway. xD

I'm looking for this kind of seaweed: http://www.etsy.com/listing/10608778...shop_home_feat because tiny vials of ocean water and seaweed and sparkles need to be in my future.

This is a very good idea, but the question is, are the product from Micheals and Hobby Lobby are safe for saltwater and freshwater aquarium? And what materiel should we look when buying from non pet supplies store? Thanks

I know mers swim in tanks with them on tops but I don't know if they'd be safe for fish to peck at in a tank. I'd say you're fine unless it's for an aquarium, and if it's for a fish tank then just spring for aquarium plants to be safe...
