Some male fish actually have a specialized fin they insert into the female to fertilize the eggs. It's only certain species though. I find fish mating a very interesting topic, personally.
So, I guess That awkward moment when I realize I just told another mer that fish have sex..?

Gah! That one is familiar! That awkward moment when your aunt sends out a mass text message to the family saying "After her long struggle with cancer, my grandma has lost the battle and slipped away. Shes in a better place now. LoL." When everyone responded with WTF?!?!? LOL?!??? She thought it meant Lots of Love and we had to explain to her what it meant. Afterwards she was like OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! She had to send another text out explaining she thought LoL was Lots of Love. XD

Some fish do birth their young, like guppies and mollies. Its not that uncommon, and most pet stores will have several species of live bearers. Perhaps mermaids are one too!

OMFG i would FREAK OUT. i'm like way too self-conscious as a mermaid. Its hard to be a mermaid as a teenager because ppl call you childish and weird.

Psh, don't be. I'll be 16 in July, and as soon as my tail is finished there won't be anyone who hasn't seen me in my tail XD You gotta go for a swim in your tail in front of people you know and be all like>>>

That awkward moment when you have to explain to people(Mostly parents) why you spent more money on a mermaid tail than your used car.... >> (Though, in all fairness, the car ended up costing me more than my tail due to repairs, but STILL)

That awkward moment when you've been in the pool for 4+ hours and find out you've been locked out of the hotel room and have to wander around the convention looking for your friends with your best friend trailing behind you carrying your dripping tail.

The continued awkward moment when you can't walk well (all wobbly and what not) and people go "Awww, that's the mermaid from earlier! She can't walk yet!" >< Derp. Or "Are you okay?!" "Yeah, just got my legs."

That awkward moment when you decide to take a nap in your tail during a convention and photographers are like "HELL YEAH! PHOTO OP!" ><

That awkward moment when a 4-6 year old girl (she was young) demands to brush your hair with a fork then goes on a rant about how you're "not really Ariel because Ariel's hair is longer and thicker." And a few other reasons. ><

That awkward moment when you have to explain to your roommate (Or any one, really) that you need silicone sex toy cleaner and water based lube for your tail.... Yeah....
