Everything was handmade, even the insides, the rivets and cogs with the exception of the store bought corset, the goggles and the necklace. It's made of micro-suede and a leather type fabric. All hand stitched and my fingers were killing me by the end of it! I'm sure I could swim in it but for obvious reasons, because of the material, I wouldn't chance it.

And here's my modified hoop skirt tail...

I wanted a tail that I could walk around in since I attend many conventions and events in the New England area and sometimes being immobile isn't an option. I also wanted to be able to change tops around to make different mermaid looks. For instance, purple shell top with red hair....Ariel. This actually got started because people were pestering me to dress up as Ariel. Anyways if I wanted, say a pirate look, I could easily throw on some pirate gear from the waist up plus a hat and I could be a Pirate Mermaid. You get the picture.

Ok so that's it for now. I am working on a few others but nothing really pic worthy just yet.

Okay. I cannot even HANDLE how amazing that is.

I love this tail, and the entire outfit. It's so incredibly well done. What I love most about it, actually, is the way it (to me) looks like you're a mermaid with a protective bit of armor over your fluke. Because life in the sea is rough. This isn't a dog-eat-dog world, anyone who knows the sea knows, this is a fish-eat-fish world, and you're ready for it. lol

I'm not a fan of steampunk but I love that tail. It's incredible and creative, when people have the balls and talent to pull something like that off I'm more than a little envious and really impressed. That is one of the best homemade tails I've ever seen.

Mermaid Fenicia! They are lovely! Thank you for your tutorial. I have heard many mer's say how scratchy wearing shells are. You have a wonderful way to get around the sharp, scratchy shell edges! I love the decorations, simple yet playful!

I also use plastic decoration shells are they are bigger then the plastic shells from a fancy-dress-store and less heavy then real shells

I know I'm not a personal fan of the steam punk look either but my goodness this tail is amazing! the whole outfit coordinates so well and it's so original

Here is my ultra fabulous new silicone tail from MerNation!!! I'm so thrilled with how it turned out, and the folks at MerNation are such a pleasure to work with. This one joins my homemade spandex tail and my FishButts latex/neoprene tail in my happy little tail family, and I love them all This will be my last tail - that is, unless I get creative with the stack of neoprene sitting in my guestroom and make another one.



And to make my other tails not feel left out, here is a photo of each of them too (even though they are on this thread somewhere already)
