I always hear things like she "got" me to do it or whatever....bollocks. I always wanted to, just had to get over that fear and insecurity, you know? It really was the last piece of the puzzle, me in a tail, that made up our 20-year relationship, of which mermaids have always been a part. The sad thing is, these guys will never know how awesome it feels to swim that way, so the joke is on them. We made special pains to ensure mine would be "badass", and I think we succeeded. My new one we just finished is even more dangerous looking. It CAN be done.

In places where this movement has had success its totally legal for women to go around shirtless. I would do this in a heart beat if I wasnt worried it would cause problems with teaching. I am a nude model, and for the time being the teacher's union is okay with that. Obviously since my nude modelling is in galleries, art nude books, and art nude website- kids aren't going to find it, and generally if for some reason they did because the images are done in infra-red frequently it changes the skin and hair and isn't easy to see it's me. Now, as for mermaiding, I did one topless shot with a well known art nude photographer 2 years ago before I was professional. The edited versions are on my site with scales edited over top. I know Hannah has a few topless photos too, but they're all in the ocean and are dark enough that you really just see the outline of the breast. I think this far into the game with me, because I work so much with kids and teaching and my students now follow my mermaid stuff, topless photos would be a bad idea, same with being caught swimming somewhere topless despite the fact we have a few nude beaches around here.

but I gotta tell you (and poor Jesse, back to boobs we go) free range boobs are the best. Hahaha


for anyone who's interested, here's an infrared photo of me that's not obviously nude:

In order to shoot infrared the photographer has to have their camera customized with a filter built right in. It changes anything red into white, so my red hair would always go white. It comes out either redish or blusih when done, so gets converted to gray scale. Gives the skin that marble esq look, and lightens the hair. Also, this is how a lot of my photos end up being done, face less.

It also turns the green in plants really white too as seen here!

That awkward moment when you come back from the craft store and have this conversation:

Me, talking to my husband: Oooh! Oh!!! Look at the awesome seaweed I found at JoAnns!!! *shows him fake plant bunches*

Hey! I have been looking for fake seaweed for awhile, now! I want to drape netting on the ceiling of an unfinished room and put seaweed and plastic sea critters in it.

In the dollar store today, I found some cool Halloweeny netting, black and kind of gauzy... my daughter asked, "What is that?" And I answered looking at it closely, "Would work great for a bra..."

And the people walking by... haha, I could almost feel their, "Huh?"

I didn't finish my thought out loud, lol. Let 'em think what they want, I was picturing it with tiny shells and faux sea stars and made up as part of a mermaidy top. I didn't buy it though... it didn't feel like it would hold up to anything. But at $1 I might get it another time and test it out.

That awesome... I mean, awkward, moment, when you outswim your cousins in their own pool, even though you have to go to the gym to swim yourself (and you've been slacking off)... and when your cousin tells you that your feet look like rubber as they kick through the water.

Also, Winged Mermaid, I agree, fake seaweed and costume parts are fun and awesome, and it's frustrating when the other person can't see it they way you can :(
