Yay! Ontario Mermaid party!

Okay so my crazy shell-drilling idea worked! I didn't really want to buy a drill or anything, and a dremel seemed expensive, but I had the idea that I could use an electric nail-care thing that I got from my Nanna a few years ago. So I thought: "I never use it, so why not try it out for shells?" And it works!! It's a great starting tool for someone who doesn't want to spend too much on jewellery stuff :) here's what it looks like, if anyone else wants a useful cheap mermaid shell tool :) 32687 ( also don't worry, I'm careful with the shell dust) :P

Wellp, I'm currently out of a job because my current place is shutting down at the end of this week; though since what I was hired to do originally is gonna be covered by my boss during the store's last week, I would have had nothing to do... So Saturday was my last day (and I only found that out near the end of my shift Friday night). It's a weird feeling, and a bit of anxiety, but overall I'm feeling... Pretty surprisingly great about it?

Plus, for some reason, I've been bitten by the art bug for the first time in... Forever? And now I've taken on a huge project; "Project Eeveelution"!

Basically, I'm designing humanoid outfits ("Gijinka" I think it's called?) based off of each of Eevee's Pokemon evolutions. I'm planning on doing up concepts for all nine Pokemon, and naturally, I've started off with my favorite; Vaporeon!

It's just a WIP so far, but I'm loving how it's turning out so far and I can't wait to get started on the others!

I don't think I'll ever be able to make them into real costumes (my sewing capabilities are... not great, plus a lot of the materials and fabrics I'd need would be expensive as hell to get here), but I'm treating each design as if I were anyway, because it's a lot of fun brainstorming all of the different materials, and the different tricks I could use to get certain effects... I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself so far. :D

I had a fantastic weekend! On Sunday we hiked up to a lovely little grotto and got some pictures in my tail. Then yesterday I got to meet and go swimming with Mermaid Alaria.

She is such a sweet, beautiful and talented Mermaid, and I am so glad I got to meet her!

Also, just found some Malibu Swimmer Wellness shampoo. Has anyone tried this? I'm happy to find a swimmer shampoo that's sulfate free!

Jcpenney finally call me with the training schedule today! Good thing me dad answered the house phone because I'm at school until 6:50pm today. The training is next Wednesday and Thursday from 3pm to 10pm. I might have to miss my classes on Thursday though. But yay money!!!!

Found a beautiful little creek not far from home and my mother and I went to do my first real mermaid photoshoot! :mermaid kiss:It was even warm enough that the water felt quite good. And someone else who brought their kids to play in the water saw us and complimented me on my tail!

Anyway, I work at a library as a shelver (it's wonderful. 17 years old and I already know that I want to stick on this career trajectory for the rest of my life) and Children's picture books just got weeded. Which means it will be MUCH less hellacious to shelve!

Okay so I had my first encounter with the public swimming today. I've taken my tails out swimming before but never really run into people and never kids. Today I was on the other side of a fairly popular creek (and I say 'the other side' because the side I was on is harder to access, whereas the other side to the one I was on is very easily accessed with a park and a boardwalk leading to the sand so that's where the families usually go) Since it was my first time out in a tail in over a year I was a little nervous so I wanted to find a slightly more secluded area. I put my tail on in the water and got to splash around for a bit, my mum took some photos for me. Next thing I know I look across the river (creek whatever) and I see this little girl pointing at me. Then more people, I eventually hear a lot of 'mermaid! Mermaid' but I was a little nervous so I stayed on my side of the creek (it's fairly wide so the kids weren't allowed to cross) and splashed my fluke around for them, waved a little. Eventually I worked up my courage and swam over... most of the way. I stayed in the deeper bit just away from them to act all shy and keep the mystery since I was worried they'd know it was a costume if they got a good look at my fabric tail. After a little while I swam back over to my side and stretched out on the beach in the sun. It was hilarious because the little girl who'd seen me first kept shouting 'come back mermaid!' it was so adorable and so why I want to do this forever <3

Yeah I ordered it from 'Splash Tails' which is a lady who lives near me who is one of their disturbers she's absolutely lovely. I love the skin, but the fin is not designed for size 9 feet and the top is not designed for a D cup, so I had to wear my own top and bottoms :)

So my roommates little brother is the most adorable thing ever. He's 4 years old and I hear him talking to her on skype. This is how the conversation went
Him: Where's the pretty mermaid?
Her: oh she has some things to do so she isn't in the room right now. (I'm outside the room doing homework)

Tomorrow is the second day of training lasting from 3pm to 10pm. I also get payed for babysitting at church on Thursdays for the mom to mom group, I just hope it's not going to be crazy like last week.

Yes, it's just like scuba diving, you take a coarse and get your certificate. I actually think this is a must-do for all mers.. if only for safety reasons.

I mentioned that I had found out about a set of fairy tale books that was originally published over a hundred years ago that I wanted to look for/get and 30 minutes later my mom tells me that she tracked them all down (individually) and bought them for me. Yes, it's just like scuba diving, you take a coarse and get your certificate. I actually think this is a must-do for all mers.. if only for safety reasons.

Yeah I agree. I'm scuba certified, and was a lifeguard/water safety instructor, but not free diving. I figure between those two, I have some really good basic safety, but I would like to improve, even if I'm not doing this professionally.

I second what Kalani said! Making your first tail is fairly easy, but once you make your second tail you will definitely have most of the construction down.

Today I started working on an animation I am doing for my motion graphics class. The animation is going to have a mermaid in it! :) It makes me feel better doing something mer related since I haven't been able to go swimming.
Here was my original concept art, but then my teacher told me that I should go with a simpler style to match the animation since I can't animate like a pro haha.

Having SO much fun right now! My darling husband offered to clean out our Hoarders style garage in order to make space for my mermaiding projects a couple of weeks ago. All my supplies were in a few crates; I'd get them out, monopolize the dining room table then have to pack up whatever project every night.
Today he did it and he hung mermaid art all over the garage! I have a work space, and proper lighting, and storage!
My daughter: You have a woman cave!
Hubby: She has a Mermaid cave.
Daughter: A mermaid grotto!

And thus my space was named. :)

They're the best. Now I'm out in my mermaid grotto playing my pirate music and happily sorting and cataloging a zillion shells, sequins, sea glass, etc...having the best time!!

Sooo lo and behold after messaging a merman on here I found out not only does he live in my area, but we go to the same college and the building he stays in for his major is right across from the building I am normally in for my major. :jawdrop: It gets even better we joined Mernetwork the same year and he joined just a few months before me. God I was so nervous haha. I was worried he wouldn't like me or it would end horribly or I'd look like an idiot and not actually be able to swim or something xD

But it ended up going perfectly!! We've swam twice now and I've had the time of my life and can't wait to go again. I can't even explain how good it feels to have mer-family and to actually be able to swim with someone else, tail or no. (Ironically my SO and every single one of my friends can't swim or is afraid of water... orz).

But anyway, I just wanted to share your joy at having finally found someone, since I've been in that exact position. And don't worry, it'll go great! You'll have the time of your life, and get to post all about it here! ^^

She didn't have a job offer for me, but she said I could use her as a professional reference in my job search later! I start my second rotation in a new place on Wednesday, and I'm stoked!

Random late night post: Work, Depression, Yoda life stuff

So I guess I like to blog but the Internet has too many websites to talk from. So I shall share this with you guys :) I've also written it and I write a lot on my personal Facebook wall so to anyone that likes reading, send me a message and request me! I like to know everyone I add at least to an extent and stuff. Anyways, here is my sad turned happy day!

(Backstory: I hang around and work with food trucks for the time being because most are extremely nice people who are on the same level as I am when it comes to many things and it makes me feel good about myself. Plus they teach me a lot of things without letting me find out the hard way and they're usually older and wiser people.)

My back hurts, I probably need to go to the hospital but there's so much to do... I'm really passionate about what I do and I can't do things or work at jobs I'm not in love with as I've found out about myself. You either work for love or for money. I work for love, money is nice, but I truly believe in doing things I love. I've experienced it at a young age that when you truly do something you love, it doesn't feel like work and your mind and body will follow thus in time, you'll be happier in life. So I've been following my passion that I stumbled upon from a series of odd jobs in life for the last 5 years.

Been trying to improve my tea menu so I've made and drank a lot of leaf infused water stuff tonight.
I get my big ol 3 foot by 4 foot giant DRIVE UP THIS STREET FOR DRINKS! sign after work tomorrow. With something this big, I won't need a 15k light up totem pole that I can't afford �� . Still need to make a banner and possibly spend about another 40+ hours trying to improve my methods and get stuff together. Really excited and happy about my team of girls as well.

Almost fell back into depression again today with bad thoughts and sad feelings. But then some random people were really happy and nice and infectious and that helped picked me back up. Then I realized that I WAS falling back into that bottomless pit after it happened. I was thinking about just going to bed and quitting everything and curling up into a ball and crying for the first part of my day. Didn't understand our know why I would feel that way. But I just wanted to quit life and everything. Until a few college student's happiness and countenance as well as overall aura brought me back. And all I did was give them food. Like, wow, me just being there and being me seemed to have made them super happy and glow. I was then brought back to why I can't quit: because I have the ability to make a lot of people really happy just by being around them even when I'm sad inside. Like, I can light other people's fire without knowing what I'm doing and that makes me feel good about myself; that I make others really happy. And that's why I do what I do and why I love my job. Not because of the pay, but because I know that I am making a difference to others which in turn, I am changing the world and making it better for others even if it's on a miniscule scale, I'm still doing it. I love being in customer service within the food and beverage industry. It makes other people happy, therefore makes me happy too because I'm a people pleaser for the most part of the day when I'm not being a slave driver lol. So yeah, some kids were happy with my customer service skills today and it made me really happy knowing that I made them happy. So it helped me escape oncoming depression :) I love what I do.

So I just found out my uni offers scuba diving ​classes. Guess who is going to be all up in that next semester?

I spent 4 days in Mallorca and went swimming in the ocean and it was wonderful. The water at Playa de Muro was clear and turquoise and warm and I collected seashells along the beach. The whole weekend was amazing and I came home feeling refreshed and relaxed. I did miss my babies terribly, though it was nice to have a few days to catch up on my sleep and just enjoy myself.

I made my crocheted mermaid tail.

It's a little big and roomy. I made it that way so it would be more of a comfy blanket to lounge in. I'm currently working on a second one that I could slip off over my feet and walk around if I needed to. The second one will be more of a costume, and I'll be adding more elements to it.

It's not silicone or even swimmable fabric, but it's a big step up from the construction paper tails I made as a kid! :D

Now I have all these ideas for laser cut and laser etched scale molds...the possibilities!

Congrats Pearlie Mae! You make silicone tail making look so effortless, but I know it takes a lot of time especially gluing each individual scale.

I am really happy because I spent all weekend making an animation that is due tomorrow. I had underestimated how long it would take me to make so I was getting very worried that I wouldn't finish it. This was such a special moment. I made this commission for a bride-to-be back in May for her October wedding and she just sent me the photos a few days ago of the groom's reaction to seeing it for the first time. I'm forever grateful for the opportunity she gave me to see his response as though I was there! She was such a delight to work with, too. I definitely teared up when I saw these. Oh, my heart. <3

Yay! My Amazon shipment is arriving today! I ordered a clay texture sheet and some circle clay cutters. I'm going to use the texture sheet to give the smooth/flat parts on my fluke sculpt some texture. I'm using the clay cutters to make a new scale sheet because my fiberglass scale sheet is too warped and won't lay flat so the silicone doesn't cure at an even thickness. It's a bit of a set back but I'm excited to make a new scale sheet! It will be easier than the first one because the first one was the adhesive foam sheets and the modified paper punch.

Today marks one full year out of treatment!

College has been keeping me busy, but I made an exciting find at the thrift store the other day– a wetsuit that fits!
Or at least I'm pretty sure it's fitting correctly, as I'm going by what my mom (an ex-scuba instructor) told me when I sent her a pic of me in it. Either way, $6.40 for a wetsuit isn't bad at all, even if it ends up getting modded later on for the base of some mer armor (it's staying intact for now until I absolutely know for sure how I want to design stuff, though).

Weeeeee! I'm back, and feeling more stable. I honestly feel so bad when my activity drops and then guilt will keep me away and I just feel more and more guilt. But I'm feeling pretty chill now, u feel like things can get better now. I'm exploring transfer options and learning to drive. I think life is getting better, I have more direction

I'm trying to be positive given all that's been going on in the world and my personal life, so here we go, here are a few things I am happy about:
- I submitted a script to Amazon Studios about a month ago and it's in the "Deciding" phase as of right now (meaning they have read it and are considering whether or not they want to buy it or option it or completely reject it). I have been working on it for about a year, gone through many drafts, had it looked at and revised and the last few feedbacks have been extremely positive. So I have confidence that my story is good, hands down but I have very little confidence that they will actually wish to pursue it. Not because it's bad but just because there might be something BETTER out there. I have low self esteem as always but hey at least someone in the world has taken the time to read my idea and is discussing it as we speak with some sort of executives.
- I may have a job interview. Just at Target so it's not like a career thing, just seasonal with the hope of leading to a regular thing, but its something to bring in some money I suppose. If not there, I may have another job lined up if all goes well after this semester.
- I might be getting my first car....soon...or soonish. Maybe. Which is why I really want to focus on the job first.
- I'm alive. So that's good.
