There's a Fry's Electronics here that is designed with an Atlantean ruins theme. Went there yesterday. A lot genuinely beautiful decor, why can't more stores be like this? My phone's cam isn't very good, but I took a few pics. There is so much more I couldn't take pics of. or find online. All the signs have a ruin look, all the metal work for hanging lights and signage is done in waves, there's a huge granite ball water/fountain thing, the walls have murals of sharks and dolphins, whales, etc. There are tentacles here and there, a really cool entrance to the store. It's just so cool. And my bf hadn't told me to expect it, he wanted to surprise me since we had to go to a Fry's anyway, so it totally made my day.

I went swimming today! It's only been a couple of weeks since I last got to go swimming, but it feels like it's been forever, and this time went SO much better than my last swim! The last time I went was my first time to the pool since I moved over a year ago, and I ended up just sort of going by myself, sitting in a crowded pool, and feeling self-conscious.

This time I went with my friend Susan who I've known since eighth grade, who it turns out is the head lifeguard at a smaller pool that's WAY closer to my house. It was a lot nicer, and there weren't as many people around so I didn't feel too awkward practicing my dolphin-kick-- and since Susan's been swimming since she was a kid, she was able to give me a lot of tips on how to improve my movement, and holding my breath underwater. I still struggle with major anxiety triggers whenever I'm up over my nose in water (long story short, when I was a kid I fell off a wharf and nearly drowned; I'm not totally hydrophobic or anything, but if I'm up any higher than my nose in water or I end up totally submerged I completely panic-- who the hell ever heard of a mermaid afraid of going underwater, right?!) and she even had me underwater for brief periods holding my breath or practicing exhaling through my nose and I did surprisingly well with no panicking! I guess it helped that I was wearing goggles, so I could open my eyes under the water and sort of remind myself where I was and that I had a lifeguard/my good friend with me.

I've been home for about two hours and even just sitting in my computer chair I keep finding myself practicing the hip movements, kind of. I'm already dying to get back into the water and swim some more! Susan and I are planning to start doing this every Sunday night so she can give me proper lessons and help with my breathing and diving and such, and hopefully work out our schedules so we can do it several times a week if possible. And the best part, since it's such a chill spot with pretty cool staff, I won't even have to pay admission to get in. :D

The best part is, I mentioned to her that I wanted to practice my dolphin-kick because I'd joined a mermaiding community, and before I could get any further she started chattering excitedly about how every now again they'd get children's parties at the pool and there'd be girls swimming around in little spandex mermaid tails and I was like OH MY GOD THERE ARE MERLINGS HERE??!! And then Susan got really excited when I told her about the tail I'm planning to get! I took the time to ask her if they're cool with people bringing things like tails and such to the pool with them for swimming and she said it's alright! So now I'll have someplace to take my future tail and practice!

It was pretty cool doing laps of the pool with the dolphin-kick and having her telling me that I'd be a mermaid in no time, and it really made me feel like I could seriously do this. I CAN'T STOP GIGGLING ABOUT IT. I'M SO GIDDY. I think all of the chlorine I accidentally snorted has gone to my head.

... That reminds me. I should probably invest in a pair of nose plugs before my next swim...

After years of desperate searching for a full-time job working with animals (literally anything, haha) as I was getting ready for supper tonight I got a call from Petsmart about a job interview for a trainee position at their grooming salon. I was really, REALLY hoping for a chance at this position-- I used to work weekends as a dog-washer at my older sister's grooming salon, and am seriously considering going back to college to become a certified groomer-- and now I finally, finally, FINALLY feel like I've got a foot in the door. My interview is tomorrow morning at 11AM. When the call ended I actually just dropped my phone and started crying. I am so, SO excited about this job-- Even if I don't get it, the fact that someone actually wanted an interview with me for the position is enough to restore my hope that I could potentially land one of my dream jobs.

SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW AAAAHHH <3<3<3 Hopefully I'll rock that interview tomorrow!

OKAY SO I HAVEN'T BEEN AROUND MERNETWORK FOR A WHILE BUT I'M SUPER EXCITED AND I'LL TRY TO BE AROUND MORE I PROMIIISSE

Wellp, I never got that grooming job after, BUT the last couple of weeks have been pretty great! Two weeks ago I signed the adoption papers on my first very-own cat, and on May 23rd Loki moved in. :D He's still a little skittish, but I've learned a lot about his favorite foods and toys and even found his favorite cat-videos on YouTube (playing high-def 40-minute videos of birds fluttering around birdfeeders on fullscreen on my 22" monitor is a great way to keep him entertained and occupied, as it turns out) and he's starting to approach me for rubs and treats and explore the house on his own.

I'm especially excited and happy to have Loki living with me now, since he's basically a sort of unofficial Emotional Support Animal to help me with my depression and anxiety. I'd always lived in a house with animals when I was living with my parents, so being out on my own for the past year in a house with no animals of any kind was really hard on me and had a way harsher effect on my mental health than I thought it would. Loki's only been here a week but as he gets more and more comfortable with me I'm starting to feel better and better. <3

And in other news: My neoprene mermaid tail-- my FIRST EVER TAIL-- goes into production soon! ;w; It's being made by Morticia because her painted tails are gorgeous and she's got all the materials and paints for it and we've pretty much ironed out the design and fluke shape and everything else and I AM SO EXCITED because it means I'm getting closer and closer to finally really getting to be a mermaid and AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH <3<3<3 I've been squealing at my boyfriend about it since I paid it off and I'm kinda keeping it a surprise from most of my other friends because I really wanna see their reactions when I post my first pictures+videos of me in my tail afterwards so yeah. ;w; I CAN'T HANDLE THE EXCITEMENT.

Only thing is I haven't been to the pool in a couple of weeks because I was working a lot during my usual swim times and then I got sick and then I hurt my leg/lower back (minor thing, just opted not to go swimming because I was worried about making it worse-- it's better now! :D). That's gonna change this week, though!

Overall I'm super excited about a lot of things and feeling really good!

I'm starting to get really excited because my 21st birthday will be here in just two days (June 4). I'm back in Cali for a big part of the summer and going to be helping paint and decorate my old room to make it a nursery for my new nephew coming in September! :) The next Wednesday after my birthday I'll be leaving to New York for about 4 days to surprise my best friend who will be there from the UK. :)
Then it will be off to Minnesota for a week to visit another friend of mine who I haven't seen in 4 years and we'll also be stopping by to see the Finfolk Production girls and they will be taking measurements for my upcoming new tail before I fly back home. :D I've got so much coming up, which is really a relief after this past year has been nothing but one bad thing after another. Finally some happiness is a nice change.

My Merfin is due to arrive tomorrow or friday. I got the adult M from Urban Outfitters (and saved $15 with a coupon)

And today I went swimming for the first time this year. I'm not really entirely comfortable with being underwater, but I got a pair of goggles, ear plugs, and a nose clip. Everything was wonderful with the exception of the nose clip. I'm thinking of adding silicone to the inside so it sticks better. I was able to go completely underwater and work on my dolphin kick.

To shorten a long story:

5 years ago, I tore a ligament in my wrist and it was screwing up my tendons. I had surgery to fix it, but something they did during the surgery wound up irritating one of those tendons to the point where it broke down and was basically nothing but scar tissue. About 7 weeks ago, I had a second surgery to remove that tendon completely.

Today, my doctor and physical therapist gave me the go-ahead to return (slowly and gently) to normal activity! Yay! This means I can get back to work (I own my own indie yarn business) AND start work on my own silicone tail!

I am not going to try. It is having a wonderful life with the FinFolk ladies--it's gone amazing places!--and I have decided to make my own. I LOVED my Man O War tail, but it was not exactly as I wanted, through NO fault of Abby and Bryn. I am just really nitpicky about things (perfectionist in the house) and so I think making my own will be the best path toward my perfect tail!

Technically, no. If that was the reason they fired me, I could sue them. I was doing nothing wrong and they legally can't tell me to shut down a small business. But I was not on contract, so they didn't have to give a REASON for "letting me go." They just suddenly started writing poor administrative reviews after "the mermaid incident" and boom, contract not renewed.

I have been riding horses since early May, and have had 14 lessons so far. My instructor says that I may be allowed to enter into a horse show in late fall. It's really awesome to see how in the past year, I have gone from depressed due to family stresses, and school, and such, but hiding it. To losing my father in a terrible accident, to where I am now. Moms going to be sobering up hopefully, and I'm pretty happy about that. :) I mean life has changed so much. I am finally reaching dreams I didn't quite think would be possible. I'm even getting my first silicone tail from Jazz eventually~ Also plan on ordering something from Nerine, and working on my new tops.
I'm even reconnecting with family and such, and pretty happy ^_^

So despite having to get out of the water because of cold water cramps I'm very proud of myself. I swam nearly 2 miles in my tail today. Minus the floating breaks I may have only swam about a mile and a half I'd it but still. I'm proud of myself. I still haven't swam under the water because the chlorine kills my eyes but I'm darn good at surface swimming.

So this week I've gotten all sorts of progress pictures on my tail from Morticia, as well as progress pics from the amazing dry-use leather+scalemaille mermaid bracers I'm getting in a trade from a friend of mine, and I'm just so giddy with excitement about everything! <3

Plus it turns out that one of my old pen-pals who I've known since I was, like, 11, got married today! My Facebook feed has been blowing up with pictures of her and her new husband and she looks so beautiful, and so happy... And seeing her so happy on her big day actually really cheered me up after my own not-so-great day. I just really, really love weddings! ;w; I've been planning mine for as long as I can remember. There is still a bit of soreness in it for me, I guess, since a few years ago I was engaged and in a really abusive relationship, but even still, I can't really help dreaming about my own wedding-- especially around this time of year when all of my other friends are getting married!

God I'm just so happy and fluttery right now I could almost cry. I'm gonna go stare at wedding dresses for a while!

I am so super excited! I just purchased my ticket to go see my all time favorite movie Gone With The Wind on the BIG SCREEN!!!! This movies means a lot to me. It was my grandmother's favorite. Her and I would watch it all the time and to this day I can never get tired of it. I literally can watch it over and over again and never get tired of it. My grandmother would tell me that when it first came out to theaters, she went to see it and she would snicker and giggle at all the people that would leave the theater at intermission because they thought that that was the end of the movie. I see this as an opportunity to experience it just like my grandmother did. I miss her every day and I am so so SO very excited to have this opportunity!

As of yesterday, I am now an auntie to a beautiful baby boy! :D (Alexander or as we call him, Zander) It was a scary process, my sister had to go into her C-section early because the baby's heart-rate was so high and then he was born not breathing. It took a while to get his heartrate back to normal because it would fluctuate soooo much. We thought he was going to be in nicu for a week. Thankfully he hasn't had any problems in the past 24 hours and is looking so much better. :) I'm super excited. It's only my sister and I so this is the first baby in the family in a while and my first time as an aunt.

I'm possibly getting my grandfathers violin, mom seems a little wary, she doesn't think I'll actually stick to it. :rolleyes: Ah well.. I have been keeping A's and B's in school, so that's good. I'm working on my fitness, and have been eating like 85% primal for a week or two at least, and my skin has cleared up amazingly. My hair color hasn't faded, since I put bits of blue and purple in, thank you shampoo that wasn't crap. It was actually cheaper than the one I was looking at, and gives you more. Pretty awesome imo. I also adore goat milk soap. In my gym class, that's my guaranteed 100% since it's just for wearing gym clothes and doing something. I can do 40 pacers, which is saying something since I have slight asthma, and its colder in there than I like, so my eyes start stinging if I run, and my throat hurts. I could only do 25 in Freshman year, so I set a goal to increase by 5 each week, then 10 after 2 or 4 weeks. I don't know, it just makes me happy.

I am going to swim in a music video next week. I can't say anything more than that right now, but I have been paid in advance and I am excited to work with everyone!

I just opened a savings account to start saving for a tail! It may take me more than a year but it's worth it. I will have the time to working on losing weight and getting into better shape in the mean time. I'll be putting every "Sold Out" bonus into the account plus at least $50 a month and a good portion of my Tax Return in there too. I'll also be making & selling homemade hats/scarves/ear warmers for the winter months. Yes I'll have to spend a little money to buy the yarn but I have some yarn already that I can just repurpose...my cousin doesn't need a blanket really and I don't need another wrap.

Words of encouragement are greatly appreciated...I have a bad habit about getting low about something and giving up on it.

A workout buddy would be awesome too. Good job! I am rooting for you! I hope to open up a tail savings account myself pretty soon. I am in the process of getting into a new apartment and paying off debts, but after that I will be stashing money away. I am getting a starter tail from Fin Fun in October though, after I get my family situated.

I would totally work out with you but I am in Corpus Christi now. :( I was living in the Fort Worth area about 2 months ago.. but had to move suddenly due to life issues. I am working out here on my own so that I can get my body back but I wish I had a running buddy! (I had a little mer-baby at the end of June and need to lose this baby weight)

I know what you mean about giving up on things.. I am trying my best not to get down on myself because it is easy for me to get discouraged too. Just some words of advice; in order to hold yourself accountable... tell people about your goals! I see that you are already doing that by posting here, but a good way to keep yourself in check is to keep a checklist, blog, weight journal etc. I am doing these things and find that I am doing well so far. I have a FinFun monofin and made my tail to go with since they don't male plus size tails. Love my tail and fin so much I'm making another spandex tail and making a monofin from scratch.

So I've been freaking out all week because I quit my job a little while ago with no other jobs lined up (stupid, stupid me) and was terrified I wasn't going to be able to afford my rent and bills this month...

Today I remembered that my monthly service fees ($12) were going to be charged out of my bank account and went online to check how deeply in the red I was going to bed, and my balance was suddenly not the -5 I thought it was gonna be, but four hundred and seventy-five fucking dollars.

Totally forgot that I had unused vacation pay at my job, which got cashed out and dumped in my account this morning.

So now September's rent will be paid off, and August's house bills will be paid, which is a major relief! My boyfriend's going to cover my phone bill this month ($45) and pay for all the groceries, bless his fabulous bearded face. That gives me another month (a little more, actually) to put towards job-hunting.

I am gonna sleep so fucking well tonight, haha. *w* So much stress off my shoulders!

I spent the whole day helping my sister, brother-in-law, and a mutual friend move into their new apartment! We got a late start, but we had half the boxes done by the time I left, everybody's beds were assembled, all the place needed was some furniture-hockey and the rest of the boxes emptied. It was a good day's work by everyone. ^_^

My happy note for the day...

I just went to JoAnn's expecting to pay about $50 after taxes for 4 yards of 118" Muslin...regularly $12.99/yd online said it was 25% off. I got to the store and I was afraid there wasn't enough on the bolt for my needs but there was enough plus 0.625 yards. I got the 4yds I need...wasn't on sale so it was just over $51 before taxes...plus the bolt end of 0.625. The bolt end was at half price but because it was ONE cut of fabric it and half price for a bolt end is regularly priced at half off I was able to use my 50% one regular priced item. This made my total after taxes on 4.625 yards of Premium muslin only $32 and some change!

I'm so excited. Today and tomorrow my mom is gonna do some mock ups for the backdrop she's gonna paint for me to use in mermaid photos with kids at parties, festivals & events. This weekend...probably Sunday...we'll go to Home Depot to buy the PVC pipe & pieces we need to make the stand for it.

I recently went back to school to become a Pharmacy Technician. I'm in my third week of my first semester of my Pharm Tech education, and I've already been asked by a Pharmacy Technician at the pharmacy I go to to apply for a trainee job there. This is such a huge turn-around from all my past job history! I've spent all of my working years so far struggling to get jobs even though I work my ass off, and now people are poaching me to work for them? Wow, it's so weird!

My happy is- we got a place. My boyfriend and I found a duplex to move into. While I will have to move away from the waterline, I will still be in a beach town- just a different one, two beaches north of where I am now. When my minimer is in a wheelchair, I can get her in and out of the place easily. It barely has a step up from sidewalk to door. It's a huge relief. He's already paid the deposit and partial rent, and getting Internet and such turned on.

I'm very excited too to be moving in with my boyfriend. We celebrated a year together recently, and he's the best man I've ever known.

Went to the pool this morning for a free test of swimming and it was so much fun, and the trainer told me that monofins are allowed! :D

I've been arranging musical compositions for a while now, including some that have been performed by choral groups, but last night I finished my first original composition! :D Definitely proud of how it turned out. Hopefully it gets recorded soon so I can share it with you all. <3 It's called The Siren's Lullaby, and is an eerie five-part piece that might even make it into a short film if it fits the feel.

I'm so happy I just got to teach my daughter about the Great Barrier Reef in her homeschool kindergarten History class. We're going over the continents, and Australia's GBR has been the most fun... all the marine life I got to show her on videos and talk about!

Lots of things to be happy about for me, but this Friday, I'm going to check out the aquatic center across from where I live. They have lap pools, diving boards, and a lazy river. I don't know if they allow fins (I don't have one at the moment, but will be asking for a Mahina for christmas!), but I haven't been swimming in so long! I don't like chlorine, but I don't have an ocean so I'll have to deal. :)
