That "dead fish" is your real skin, the human skin you're wearing came from a girl who asked too many questions.

TAWM you are trying to practice breath holding in the water, and just as you're taking a breath to go under a single, tiny errant droplet of water flies straight into your throat and leaves you coughing right in front of the lifeguard.

Fancy a cup of mermaid tea?

When you're trying to help your friend into their tail, while you're in yours, trying to get purchase in the water and you end up knocking your friend into a full mermaid faint and you go down with them.

^TAMW you're swimming with your new mermaid friends you just met that JUST got done telling you about said mermaid faint they went through earlier and just as they get towards the end you lose balance on the rock you were on and go sliding into the water in a full mermaid faint.

I'm working towards mermaiding, so I haven't had any awkward moments. I've just been watching a lot of YouTube videos to imagine and keep myself going in the right direction to getting healthy. On one such video, I saw just this happen. The mermaid kissed the bottom of the silly sting ray. I thought it was really adorable! The sting ray is helping you put on a great show. You're audience will eat it up. No worries!

    What?! No mermaids? That's discrimination!

Ok so this happened back in January when I was working at a renaissance Faire but it was funny

TAMW you're on your lunch break (still in tail) and all of a sudden EVERYBODY is amused because you're a mermaid eating pizza... can't a mer have some lunch? 😂

Haha! I had wondered a few days ago, when I started reading through this, if this ever happened to mers. You're used to flipping through the water as though you have one leg, not two. Get out of the water and you grow two pair and can't figure out how to use them. Seems pretty sensical to me.

It's also got me thinking what coming to land for a "real" mermaid must be like. They've never walked, always had legs. The density of gravity is much different in the water then on land, so standing would be difficult. You know, when humans get out of the water and they feel weighed down by the water? How much worse would it be for someone who's never been on dry land? Also, their core temp must be far different then humans because of the coldness of the water. They'd feel fried in 70 degree weather! The more I think about it, the more I wonder at how a mermaid would survive on land. :P This sort of thinking helps me imagine how I want to represent the mer world in my stories.

Yeah. I don't get that one either. Why were people SO against Aquamarine? When I saw the advertisement, I was determined to watch it, despite disgruntled reviews. I've never been able to get enough of the mer-world, always fascinated by it, never able to be a part of it. (Until recently, when I discovered how real mermaids are.) I wasn't disappointed that I recall. (Life has happened since. It's been a while since I've been able to watch it.) I'd have jumped for the steal of a deal too!

Yes, Michelle! My husband and I are 32 and 33 respectively. (I'm the younger of the two of us.) Yesterday, I was talking about how we are "past our prime" when it occurred to me that we are actually still very young. I don't know if it has any thing to do with how judgmental of age this society seems to be or because of some serious trauma we've been through over the past half-decade. But we really are NOT that old! When you think about it, people are living longer and longer these days. There are many who have made it to a whole century. And even they are young compared to the age of the earth itself.

That's a very good thing! One way of facing your fears is associating it with something positive. I'm not hydrophobic that I know of. I nearly drowned once and don't like water up my nose any more (that didn't even bother me before that incident), but I have always longed for the water and to swim more. I was 12 before I FINALLY learned how to swim. So if you're concerned how old you were when you finally did, you don't need to be. You're not alone. And I was older.

My Dr was doing that yesterday. I went in because I was ill, but also to ask for whatever advice she could give about my general health and what concerns I may have as a free diver. She was pretty determined to find out why I wanted to free dive. Finally, I told her I want to be a mermaid. She laughed and I pointed it out. She said only partly, but she thinks it's cool. Maybe because it involves great incentive to lose a great deal of weight that I seriously need to lose. Anyway, I told her mers are doing awesome things, like Make A Wish. (Impressed by Mermaid Linden's work.)

About the hydraulophone: Wow! If I were a professional mermaid, I'd want to take this with me to shows. I would tell the kids it was an instrument from my world and give them a chance to play on it themselves if possible.
