Happiness- I had a tidy little sum of money come my way out of nowhere! It was highly unexpected, and turned out that a small (very small) trust I got when I was 18 had been ripped off, and the law suit was JUST settled. lol 26 years later... still, better late than never. One can always use a little cash.

Most of it will be given to my boyfriend, since he fronted the entire cost of our move, but I was able to use a little to donate to Mernetwork, and to get my daughter a couple little gifts. Just in time for Halloween. woot!

As of yesterday, I am now an auntie to a beautiful baby boy! :D (Alexander or as we call him, Zander) It was a scary process, my sister had to go into her C-section early because the baby's heart-rate was so high and then he was born not breathing. It took a while to get his heartrate back to normal because it would fluctuate soooo much. We thought he was going to be in nicu for a week. Thankfully he hasn't had any problems in the past 24 hours and is looking so much better. :) I'm super excited. It's only my sister and I so this is the first baby in the family in a while and my first time as an aunt.

I just booked two parties for my business! 2 (or more) hours on the 30th and then a 6 hour event on Halloween. This is huge for me because while I was doing ok, what I've been making just wasn't supplementing my husbands income enough. The parties land right between pay periods so we'll be getting paid three Fridays in a row *happy dance*
It really seems like business has picked up in the last two months, here's hoping that it keeps on going!

As for me, I'm so speechless I just can't explain how blessed I feel right now!

My amazing friend, Marc, who is the older brother of one of my college friends, has been helping me out so much.
First off he decided to ask one of his seamstress friends to make me a new tail since my current fabric one is starting to fall apart and become too damaged. Thus, I decided to plunge him into the Merfolk community so he could understand what he would be explaining to her. He liked it a lot more than he expected and is in waaay too deep now to back out. Though he wants to get a tail for himself in the future, for now he's turned my project into his goal! He's been doing a lot of research and our conversations keep boiling down to tail and mer attire concepts.

Marc is not only going to be having his seamstress friend make me a custom tail free of charge, he said if all goes to plan he hopes on having my Mernation single color tail ordered by April of next year! He says it's a graduation gift to me so he's going to be donating a lot of money to my cause when he can. I'm absolutely awestruck at the kindness he's showing me, since it's unusual for my friends to ever help me out like this. By Summer of next year if all goes to his plan I may be able to swim in mountain rivers and lakes in a silicone tail rather than a fabric!

It's so surreal; just a few months ago I had resigned myself to the idea of never being able to afford a silicone tail. Now, puzzle pieces are falling in place to allow me this opportunity and I'm just on the verge of crying from happiness every time I think about it.

I had issues with it being see through, and she has a Halloween deadline so I wasn't able to come up with a solution :( But it came out ok and now I can do better on the next order! So happy to say that I got to go on my first swim as a mermaid. Just recently moved into my own place (by the ocean!) and finally gained access to a pool- it's saltwater! I loved every second of it. It just felt right and natural.
What made the experience even more special for me was it was my 4-month-old daughter's first swim too. I can't tell you guys how happy it all makes me. Such a sweet memory I'll always have.

So yesterday I went to physical therapy for my sprained rib which turned out to not be sprained ribs but an intercostal issue. Anyways, I was prescribed TENS therapy which I wasn’t sure about. Basically TENS is a low intensity electric shock that stays in the upper layers of your skin instead of sinking all the way down. It kinda feels like a low vibration that causes your muscles to release and contract and releases endorphins to help with the pain.
It helped so much. I had a 20 minute session and I was relatively pain free the rest of the day. I’m going back Friday and next Wednesday. After that my therapist is going to evaluate whether or not I need a home unit. And that would be really awesome if I could get one.

My daughter came through surgery with flying colors. I'm grateful I have Mernetwork to come to and look around while she sleeps tonight. Such comfort in being where there are others like you.

A bit of yay and a bit of grr, went on my first solo swim in my tail and it was fantastic. Except that even though I took the tail in 4 inches it was still sliding down my butt so I have to make a casing and elastic waist band

My makeup isn't water proof at all actually. I honestly just use a bunch of random brands. I've never been one to shell out very much for cosmetics. I was super surprised it didn't run during the swim!

I used Physician's Formula powder and blush for my face. I use Rimmel eyeliner and Cover Girl mascara. The cream eyeshadow base is Clinique and the powder was from a palette I bought from Claire's lol.

This has been a rough week. But we are one week down, four weeks to go with my daughter's hip cast.

My happy today is that 1) I was able to get her into her wheelchair. I don't know how I did it, but I found the physical strength- she only weighs about 45 lbs, but the cast is another 15-20 pounds. 2) the fabric came for a project I am working on yay! 3) my order of Super Sculpey is coming and though I cannot make an entire tail right now, I can start the process of designing the scales I've been dreaming of for something like three or four years.

And my daughter is doing great, needing less pain medicine and less often. We got more sleep last night... the first time in a week I slept more than a few hours.

I have to brag on my husband for a minute. He's taking the online degree courses at Pittsburgh institute for mortuary science. Each term is 8 weeks so he has exams every two weeks or so. He just took his psychology and restorative arts midterms and aced them!

so today my parents and i started working on a plan to prank my 2 older sisters. both of them are in college.
all of our lives our parents told us that the #1 most dumbest thing is to get a tattoo
my dad convinced both of my sisters i got a black butterfly tattoo on my neck. both of them called me flipping out if it was true or not. my parents say i have to play along. even my sister's roomate asked (we follow eachother on tumblr) this is the only place i can actually say this because noone in my family has no connection to this website. we are now waiting for when they come back to see that there is no tattoo on my neck and us clueless about what they say about it

I got pictures of the 99%-finished tail from Morticia on Friday night while I was at work. I may have screeched and started crying... XD My coworkers thought I was crazy! The best part is, it'll all be ready to ship really soon! ;w; I've been super giddy and excited all weekend!

Having good days, my daughter is getting used to her cast. 3.5 weeks til the cast comes off, then we wait a bit and the other hip gets operated on. And then she will be able to run around like a child again.

Am thinking of putting up a 'how to make a netted necklace' tutorial here, since I have a phone now that could record video and take pics for it. (Hooray for Cricket's free offers and great deals.) I wonder if anyone would be interested? I guess I could do it and find out!

Yesterday I finally had everything together for a miniature caterpillar habitat... I saw some cats on a dill plant that were absolutely gorgeous a couple days ago. Id never encountered them before and thought they were monarchs but theyre swallowtails. When theyre 'agitated' little antennae looking things pop out of its forehead, I felt like I encountered a real life caterpie *o* Theyre currently chilling on a small herb bouquet of parsley and dill. Im hoping I can keep them hidden from my mom orrrr she magically isnt too bothered if she happens to see them (she really hates 'bugs')

I'M SO HAPPY because my mom is brilliant and helped me solve my ID renewal problems! I was having issues b/c here in OR they require a birth certificate just to renew (crazy, I tellz ya), and my mom mentioned I could just come back to CO to visit and renew in-person while I'm there... So I went to the CO DMV website to check out the prices/process... and THEY LET YOU RENEW ONLINE NOW OMFG YUSSS :dance:I can finally get a job! I can finally get a copy of my birth certificate!

Plus, the fees for CO renewals are about 1/4 of what it costs here in OR... I really wonder where all that money goes, because our public services here are a load of manure :rolleyes:

Okay, it's not much, but oftentimes, it doesn't take much to make me happy...After over a year of haunting the used items ads on Craigslist, making the rounds of thrift stores, last night I snagged a perfectly wonderful wheelchair! I am no longer confined to the spot I am sitting in while in my tail on dry land!

How neat that you got two whole lanes! When Morticia and I went, we shared one lane (but we were also taking turns sharing one monofin, since the last time we went swimming was before I had my monofin). It must have been so nice to have the room to turn around and not worry about hitting bystanders!

It was great! I got much support from the people working there too, they told me when it was best for me to swim so I could get more room.
One of the lifeguards was so excited and said that it was her best day as a lifeguard so far, and she took a lot of pictures too!
I met an american in the lane next to me, she had an underwater camera and wanted to film me sometime.

I've been working and working at creating performance products, and I've spent many hours marketing. I finally got a New Year's eve party gig at a waterpark, but I was still having no luck getting our music and theatre programs booked. So it occurred to me that maybe I needed to try a different kind of marketing approach. Last week I called the Children's Librarian at our local library. Over the years, she has hired us several times (as puppeteers, back in the day). I left a message with her voicemail offering to do a series of mermaid storytime appearances at the library. My idea was, if we just got out there in front of an audience more, those kids and their parents would begin buying our music CDs and stuff from my new Etsy shop, and it might lead to paying gigs. I didn't hear anything from the librarian, so I began to think she wasn't interested. But this morning she called me, and we had a lovely, long conversation. She's THRILLED with the idea of a monthly mermaid storytime. She's going to schedule it as a separate series on Saturday mornings. That way, my husband, who plays a pirate character, can participate, too, when he's free. AND she thinks a great plan would be to do 4 monthly storytime sessions, then on the 5th one, she'd hire us to do a paid music or theatre performance. We would just repeat that structure over and over, so we're pretty much guaranteed 3 paid Hudson Library shows a year for the foreseeable! Sweeeet!

It's a large library with lovely performance spaces, and the building is right on the scenic St. Croix River here in Hudson, WI. It's a perfect venue for a water-themed series.

I'm basically a fully-trained jeweler, but since someone would have to die in this town before I would even be considered for a job in that field, I'm already going back to school to become a Pharmacy Technician. There's just too darned many of us pesky jewelers in the Austin area, and I'm not exceptionally good at it. Now if only someone would get the graduated cylinder joke. :\

Okay! I'm posting late, mostly because I was in this sort of dream like state yesterday when I got home, but yesterday was just so amazing. Since I go to a university that's far away, I don't get to see my boyfriend very often, we see each other about once every 2 or 3 months. So yesterday he comes to pick me up and we hang out and watch netflix over his house for forever and it's just so nice because it's just the two of us and we get to catch up and just cuddle and after he drops me off at home again, he stays for a few hours because he didn't want to have to say goodbye just yet. It was just an amazing relaxing day and I know to some people netflix doesn't seem romantic at all, but it really was. The next time I'll see him even though we're both on winter break now and I'm home (because he's going to mexico for x-mas ) will be valentine's day which is also our anniversary ) and I can't wait! I'm already trying to find the perfect card for him (every time we hang out, I get him a really inappropriate card, he's got quite the collection going haha, I need to out do myself because my last card was amazing lol)

Went swimming at the public pool today. I didn't know that there was a class of third graders having a field trip! The kids surrounded me literally lifted me out of the water and paraded me around to show the parents and teachers. There was also a girl who was so worried that my tail was coming down and people could see my "mermaid underwear" (aka my bathing suit bottoms) that she kept on hoisting on the waistband of my tail to pull it up. It was hilarious.

There was also a girl who decided I'm Ariel's daughter, even though her hair is black and she has a red tail and I'm blonde with a purple tail.

Yea but they frown on bubble baths in the pool. Plus its chlorine water. Last time I had a real bath was when a cabin the family was renting had a hot-tub. Filled that up, pored in some bubble bath soap, and had fun. And the bubble jets from the hot-tub+about 3x the amount of soap I should have used...there were more bubbles than water...and it was awesome!

Bit of sad news first: My black orchid crowntail betta, Paarthurnax, got really sick last week and passed away. :( It was a fungal infection, it spread way too fast and by the time I knew what was wrong and got the medicine he needed, it was too late. I spent like two hours curled up on the floor in my boyfriend's office (where Paarty had been quarantined) just sobbing. I was really upset, and ended up spending the night just beating myself up over not being able to help him sooner.

My boyfriend saw how upset I was about the whole thing, and after he picked me up from my best friends' house (they'd kidnapped me to cheer me up after they heard about what happened), he told me that I should meet up with him at his work once I got off my shift on Saturday. The next day, I went over to meet up with him, and he handed me his card and told me to pick out a new betta at the PetSmart next door.

And so I have a new buddy: Odahviing! (Because, in honor of Paarthurnax, his predecessor was also named after a Skyrim dragon; which, fittingly, translates into "Winged Snow Hunter.")

I've had him for maybe 48 hours now and I'm already obsessed with him-- I'd never seen a betta as pearlescent as he is, his colors change from white to pink to blue in the light, he's just so pretty. <3 I'm really hoping that I'll be able to give Odahviing the absolute best, and not let what happened to Paarthurnax happen to him, too (and if it does, somehow, then at least I know what signs to look for and have the medicine I need on-hand to treat him right away).

My happiness came from us talking about our goals for 2014 and how we did and I realized that everything that I had set a dream for I did, have a good workout schedule, have consistent mermaid gigs, spin fire poi, and do a super cool mermaid thing. I've toned up a lot, I got to spin fire poi (I've done fire staff a few times now) last night, mermaiding is going swell, and I got to help edit Raina's book. I'm so happy about this year and am stoked for 2015 and all the awesomeness that's gonna come along with it, that and we are moving to Gemany in Oct so for that I'm stoked.

My happy is that my daughter, while still unable to walk or to stand on her own, is scooting around all over the house on her bum, even crawled a little. She is trying to stand on her own because though she be but little, she is fierce! But she isn't quite there. She's doing really well though. Recovering faster than I thought she would.

My actual address is 78 degrees right this minute.

THIS is why I live in San Diego. I have friends talking about it being -2 where they are. Here, we're not in layers or using energy-eating heaters, we're in summer time clothes, and my daughter is about to have ice cream. :) Having lived in other places, where the weather is VERY cold right now, I can say that it's not more expensive to live here (outside of house prices), it is in fact cheaper due to one wardrobe and less heating.

I love the rain, but right now, after recent freakishly cold weather here, this makes me happy.

So I just found out that Peter S. Beagle, the author of The Last Unicorn, is doing a worldwide tour presenting the original animated movie at various theaters... And may be coming to Newfoundland in May.

The Last Unicorn is... A really big deal to me. I fell in love with the movie as a little kid, the novel is my number-one favorite, I own the graphic novel in both the original hardcover and deluxe versions (and bought it, the novel and the movie on iTunes). This is what triggered my obsessive passion for the fantasy genre, and of course unicorns. It's had an enormous impact on my life, and Molly Grue's "Where Have You Been" monologue is one of the hardest-hitting, deeply personal monologued I've ever connected to.

And in May, if everything goes well and he does manage to find a theater here to show his film, I'm going to get the chance to meet the guy responsible for this huge impact on my life. I'VE NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITED!!!!

Like, I actually, legitimately CRIED at the thought when I found out that Newfoundland was mentioned on the tour list. I'd been planning on mailing my Deluxe Edition hardcover graphic novel to him with the hopes of getting him to autograph it, and now I've found out that I may get the chance to meet him in person, and personally thank him for his amazing work.

#TreasureTuesday I was at the store just killing time before meeting a friend after work for breakfast when I found a whole shelf full of $1 jewelries. I looked through one box and found lots of cute "Under the Sea" earrings to add to my treasure box for gigs.

I have a tentative design but the only picture I have of it is in weird lighting and I've changed what I want the fluke to look like. But Maria and I have been talking about incorporating a translucent fluke and everytime I think about it, I'm just like omg omg omg.
I know I want it to be metallic blue (darker on the sides, fade to the middle), little pink streaks throughout the tail, and made some darker blue spots!

I had such an amazing happy day yesterday. I suffer from depression (am on anti-depressents so it's not so bad) but like yesterday was... Just so amazing. It totally lifted me up and I'm ready for the weekend! Plus I'm in talks with Mermaid Jessica about a tail and her ideas are amazing!

I'm buying a portable photo printer today from someone on Craigslist. Never bought anything I couldn't really try out first.

Tax season usually means I get to pamper myself for my birthday or prior to and this year is a great one. Not only did I buy the above mentioned Canon Selphy CP740 for $40 but I also bought a bag for it, 4 boxes of 108 photo sheets with ink, and a new Nikon AW120 that came with 12 accessories including a float strap, flexible tripod, case, 64GB SD card and much more.

That's just the start. I'm also buying my ticket to go see the Broadway musical Newsies in Dallas, more spandex for new tails, a new sewing box & more.

May even have to take mom to Medieval Times.

Hey guys! This is going to be long, sorry!
I had the most awesome moment of my mermaiding journey so far today, and I have to share it!! :D

(So, even though I don't have my first tail sewn up, I'd still like to think I'm a bit of a fish without one!)
I was with my Mum, stepbrother, stepsister and stepdad at a 'secluded' beach. (ten minutes drive out of town, but still you get the occasional person driving by) and I noticed that at the end of the beach near a massive rock, there was a family with a little girl and a toddler. I only have my monofin at this point, but I thought "hey! why not see if I can brighten that little girl's day?"

so I swam over ( long swim from my original spot) and just hung about fifteen metres from the beach, lifting the tip of the monofin out of the water every once in a while. The little girl saw me, pointed at me, and said "DADDY LOOK!" Her mother was sitting there with the toddler on the rock, and was beaming when she noticed what I was doing. (I couldn't stop smiling) The dad said "wow!" look (name?) It's a mermaid! Do you want to say hello?" The little girl was a bit shocked I think, but she was asking me questions like; "do you live in the water? can you walk?" I said that I could change my tail into legs, ( I kept my knees underwater to keep the illusion) and the dad played along, saying that I can say a spell that changes me so I can be on land with people. The little girl went over to tell the mum, so I said quietly to the dad " I just know that if someone did this for me when I was little, the magic would've lasted a lot longer", and he said "Thankyou"

I hung around in the water, diving down and watching the little fishes near the seaweedy rocks, (the best I could without goggles) Just playing in the waves. I swam up to the beach near the mum, and she was just smiling at me. she asked me if it was hard swimming in the fin, so I replied. The dad and the little girl stood on the beach, and he asked her if she wanted to swim with the mermaid. she walked in a bit, (but the water was pretty cold, and I was surprised I hadn't gone purple yet !) I chatted with her for a bit, until I saw we were leaving. She kept waving as I swam back over to where my family was, so I did my best to look "mermaidy" the whole time. it was a pretty big distance, so she lost interest and started to run around with her dad on the beach. I told my mum about how the little girl reacted, and she said to my stepbrother how it was funny that I had 'convinced myself' that I was a mermaid. ( little do they know of my plans to be a professional mermaid one day!!) heh heh

I think I probably had more fun than the little girl. :D Her first reaction made my week :D :D She was so adorable!

That's so awesome! It's moments like that that make being a mermaid worth it all.

I remember last summer when I would swim in the last river at the water park and people would realize I was a mermaid. I didn't see many faces...just heard their remarks...mom got to see most of their faces though and it was awesome!!

I've always been a bit afraid of kids, but today I did my first observation/assisting with cycle instructors at a primary school near where I live, and they were amazing.
I'm hoping this is my first step towards being able to have moments like this, especially when I'm mermaiding about.

I'm so excited!!! So my roomies and I got our notice to move out last week, and since this is my first move I've been stressing like CRAZY trying to find a new apartment and such even though we don't *have* to be out of our current place until May 1st... My mom is good buddies with a real estate agent who offered to help us out free of charge, which has been an AMAZING help since I had no idea where to even start...

A few days ago he emailed me a pile oflistings, and among them was a BEAUTIFUL four-level house, three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms with heated floors, double attached heated garage, massive fenced-in backyard, two fireplaces... All for the same price that we're paying on our tiny little half-house right now. So, naturally, I jumped at the chance, but got nervous because nowhere on the listing did it say whether or not the place is pet friendly— I have a cat, and if Loki can't go with me, then I won't go.

The Realtor got back to me tonight, after waiting on a response from the folks who own the house... It IS pet friendly! ;w; I'm so ecstatic I could cry!! We're hoping for a viewing at the house either tomorrow night or Saturday afternoon, at which point we're planning to get a few more details cleared up, and then hopefully we can get started on moving in!

I'm just so excited. ;w; Even if I am kind of nervous... This huge, gorgeous house in a great part of town for only $1400/month? I'm preeeeetty sure that means it's haunted and/or I'm going to die in this house.

But whatever. There are TWO OVENS in the kitchen. THAT'S TWICE THE CUPCAKES IN HALF THE TIME. Totally worth dying over IMO.

My three year old nephew thinks I'm the Starbucks mermaid. Every time he sees the logo, he says my name. Since my brother-in-law and mother are fond of lattes, he sees the logo pretty often, and yeah, he says my name every time. If I'm not around, he starts looking for me.
Yeah, I thought that was funny. I don't have a tail, but he still thinks I'm a mermaid. :D

soo, after some issues with my wave monofin, ( has a fault, so aquashop is sending me a replacement-rapid- free of charge!! thankyou aquashop! I also get to keep my wave) and after getting the fabric scissors sharpened, I was able to cut out my little hip-fins and paint them! I'm not doing anything to the tail material, until my new monofin arrives, and I can adjust the pattern. ARGHHH why do I have to wait another two days+ for it to get hereeee?!?...... at least it's happy frustration. for now, I'm sitting on my bed, wearing my wave, imagining I actually have a tail at all :/
