I bought this awesome material yesterday for half price at my spandex store. I was gonna make 4 tails out of it but my cousin and a friend say I need to make one tail with all the colors. To me that might be a waist of material because I bought enough to make individual tails. What do you think?

I also bought son bright pink mesh for making fins on a few of them.

Here's what i got:

Saturday's child works hard for its living.

Chinese zodiac is a Gold Goat : Ambitious and kind-hearted with a strong sense of responsibility in work; sometimes too stubborn.

Now for chinese, apparently my lucky month is august... the month i was actually born in.

All i can think about is

And a literal lion and a lamb/sheep/goat/ram. Both of which has religious connotations. Because you have the circle of life and things like "He lives in You"

So aside from the bit of panicking I did yesterday about preparing for the GRE, there have been lots of positives to share:
My Finis Foil came on Thursday (a day early) and I was able to go swimming with it on Friday - that first swim across the pool with it was magical and the only other times I've had a similar feeling were when I got pulled along by a dolphin (this time I actually felt like a dolphin/mermaid)!
I'm starting to get a bit more confident in my study for the GRE - it's definitely hard and I have a long way to go, but I'm starting to feel more positive and am starting as prep course this week (hopefully able to take the exam at the end of July).
I got a ton of awesome fabric (thanks to my Mom and a bunch of coupons):
~ mermaid/sea creature flannel (pillowcase and one side of a weighted blanket)

Hi Ambr! Can't you incorporate the scraps from the tails into each of them? Like use some bits for fins, cut into strips for ribbing in the fluke, maybe alternate the colors cut into strips and apply as the ribbing onto the fins? That way you could do all the tails that you want and use some of the colors in each.

I know how you feel, I wear my swing tail necklace around everywhere and people love it but I haven't sold any on Etsy :(

:dance: Yay! That rule about no pool toys I've been fretting over? I got a special exception for the use of my monofin! Too wet and rainy for the pool today, so I plan to celebrate at home with a home made bath bomb. The squeaky wheel really does get the grease! I'm so glad I didn't keep quiet and give up! This is the smaller fin that I stuck into an old fabric tail so you could see it. I have exciting video of the huge Ariel fin, but you couldn't see it in my jacked up phone video. I'm all excited for a swim happening next week!
Last month, with encouragement from Mermaid Atlantis, I decided to organize a mermaid swim in San Jose and we'll have around 10+ mers attending.
The San Jose State University pool I swim at regularly, is perfect and open to the public (and huge!).
When I first got the ball rolling on organizing this meet up, I wanted to be sure that mermaid tails were going to be allowed at the pool. I found out that not only is the manager of the SJSU Aquatic Center ok with mermaids in the pool, but she may want to try swimming in a tail herself!
It's a big plus when the people in charge want to join in on the fun :D

Vicky Mermaid and I gave a mermaid training yesterday! I rented a pool for 2 hours. She took one half (the more advanced swimmers) and I took the other half (all the newbies who never swam in a monofin before)
Gosh.. I loved teaching! It was great to see them making progress, and reminded me of my own struggles when I first swam in a monofin.
It really makes me happy to teach.. never thought I would enjoy it this much :D

15 years ago, during the carnival in Cologne, I aquired a big sheet of a fabulous, shimmering white fabric that I wanted to make my dream dress out of.

I asked my mother for help, but she said she couldn't sew well enough, and we should go to a seamstress.
But we never found one, and then for many years (due to a lot of moving houses), the fabric went missing.

I found it again a few weeks ago.
Since I can sew now, I'm making my dream dress out of it myself.
And there is enough fabric left to make another long snake tail too :lol:

Went swimming at a pool in a neighboring village today, it was so nice to be in the water and take the pressure off my pregnant belly. I haven't been swimming in ages, I informed my husband that we will be coming to this pool regularly from now on. I just wish they allowed monofins!

Mine was pretty much sold out and the rest was on clearance. I was able to get some eyeshadows and some of the Belle line, because the colors were beautiful. I was hoping for an Ariel makeup bag, but no luck.

I had an audition for a performing pod in my area, and it went so well! I don't think I got it, but the girls were great and I loved all the other applicants. We all got along so well that we just stayed in the pool swimming and talking for hours! The mers holding the audition made everyone feel at ease and I feel like I learned so much. :-D

So after a WHILE of thinking about my options (making a sequin tail, new tail from finfolk, tail from different maker) I've finally decided where my second tail will be from! Originally I planned finfolk, but I them realized I wanted a lighter tail easier for travelling, SO I'm getting a tail from Mermaid Jessica! Her and I were talking back and forth about it for hours last night, we are both very excited :) as for the design/color scheme, I'll be keeping it a surprise until my tail is paid for and officially in production :)

Stonehenge is sun based, which is always in the same position based on earth's rotation around the sun. Earths precession wouldn't make any noticeable difference in our life time (26,000 years per rotation), but you are right, the moon is always in a different position when full, but it will NEVER be directly over the moon pool.

In order for the moon to ever be directly overhead you would need to between 22° N and 22° S latitude. At the equator you would have two times per year the moon was directly over head. At 22° only once.

If you are at 22° South, the sun and moon will be highest Jan 21/22. At my location in Iowa (Wolfram alpha is being a brat) the sun never gets higher than 77° above the horizon (Jun 21/22 since I am in the northern hemisphere).

Now lets take a look at what days Jan 22 has a full moon. Between 1900 and 2100 there are 8 times: 1913, 1924, 1970, 2008, 2027, 2046, 2065, and 2084. I don't know how long their mermaids live, but in human terms, the winter solstice and a full moon will only happen 5 time while I am alive.

You guessed it! :) My actual hair is dyed blonde, too, and I thought it might be long enough by Halloween that I could go without a wig, but a few days ago I had to have several inches of hair cut off after the ends turned blue (chlorine + purple shampoo is not a good combo ROFL). I just ended up getting a nice wig instead- at least I don't have to worry about taking the time to crimp my real hair. Made a big decision last weekend....i decided not to do work on Saturday and Sunday anymore, meaning no more book keeping, and posting on the Dutch craigslist to sell as much stuff from around the house as i can, no more any stupid work i don't like to do.
After 2 years of working every day it's enough!
This weekend was the first weekend where i did whatever the h*ll i felt like and my goodness it felt awesome!
I finally got to sit down for hours and craft for my Fairy Me Etsy shop! Normally i only do that in between my boring work but now i could focus on it 100% and just enjoy it completly!

oh well, it is not a big loss really, i have clear individual nose plugs that work beautifully, i was kinda just hoping to have some that were connected so pulling them out my nose is a touch easier.

huh, only guy who make them? guess that means if anyone in the u.s. were to start makin ones they would probably be a big hit! (surprised some of the up-and-comer tailmakers haven't looked into it.)

Well they make them in smaller sizes now if that makes a difference, I ordered a small and I am hoping I didn't need an extra small. I had never seen any actual "plugs" other than the sinus savers, good to know I have an option if they don't work out. I really needed them for the sunday meet but with shipping issues that may not be happening. Opposite of Happy Thread talk. :(

oh, actually the size wasn't the issue for me, it was the rims really, they are kinda sharp and would stab the inside of my nose. (i probably just have a sensitive nose tho? i have seen others use it and complain about varies aspects but not the rims like i have?)

Yup the only one.. it's his invention and is the only one who has the rights to it (thats what he explained to me) he's been doing this 20+ years and is looking for an agent in America so it can be made there too.. but not upping the costs.. He makes them for 120 euro's, and the people willing to do this wanted the price to go up to 300/400$. Since he's doing this to help people, not make huge amounts of profit he still hasn't found the right person to partner with. :)

But If enough people want to get a Tomnose.. maybe you could all team up and get him to the USA?

unless you mean the WAY he makes his nose plugs, which of course are all his own. however considering there are sinus savers and the nose plugs i have, he isn't the inventor of nose plugs in general? (maybe i am confusing what u mean? if so, sorry about that ^^ ) the tomnose specifically, of course! that is all his and i wasnkt suggesting any one copy his method of making specifically a tomnose. but i am just thinking about simple nose plugs, i mean the ones i have cost less then $10. basically just sinus savers but a bit more defined is all. i think actually a mermaid on here made some nose plugs with her own method and it only cost her about $20?

Yesterday at our wet meet a little girl saw my monofin and was talking to her granny about how I had a fin "like a mermaid", she was so precious with bright red hair like Ariel! That's the first time I've gotten the "mermaid magic" look from a kid and it was pretty darn magical for me! (All the others were on the other side of the packed pool, I wanted her to see the others who had tails on!)

He's perfect and adorable and covered in downy hair and is so warm and snuggly. We're all recovering well and probably get to go home tomorrow, looking forward to introducing Juniper to her new brother. Husband has the next three weeks off, so that's great.

SeaGlass; my husband had very specific requirements for that middle name; it had to begin with a vowel and be mathematically geeky in nature. We settled on Archimedes after I vetoed Euclid(he originally wanted the middle name to begin with E, but Euclid is a street in my hometown and it just sounded weird to me). I expect Jimmy will grow up to be some kind of steampunk inventor or submarine captain. My mom is already sending us astronomy and math prints to hang in the nursery; she sent botanical prints for Juniper.

So excluding my student loans which don't have to be paid back until I'm earning over a certain amount.... I just paid off the last of the debts I had built up, my one store card and all the money I owed mum and my older brother from when I was unemployed etc. I worked all summer to do it. I also finally got the paperwork etc to the solicitors to start my divorce officially. So now I can save to pay the last half of the divorce fees and for a gym membership! :D

Also starting tomorrow I'm doing a sponsored challenge of 10,000 steps a day for 4 weeks to raise money for scope which is a disabilities charity. *Dances*

ok so my mom works at a K-8 catholic school. this is a super tiny school, like the size of the school is one long highschool hallway. i didnt go to this school but my older sisters did. there is only one class for every grade. like no joke, there is like 15-20 students for each grade. tiny tiny school
my mom is the school's secutary so she knows every single kid's name and thier parents. usally when she brings somthing from the school, its left over treats from class parties. (the best part is in febuary she goes on a diet so for valentines day alot of kids get her candy too and she gives it to me)

right so she comes home and says "sara i got somthing for you from school" and im like oh sweet is it icecream or somthing?
she gives me a pencil box. so im thinking maybe the art teacher didnt need some color pencils or somthing. so i open the box

and she tells me that there is a family who loves to go to some beach in Virginia that is infamous for shark teeth and they wake up at the crack of dawn to get first dibs and the donated this box of teeth to the school. but the school didnt know what to do with them so she gave them to me.
they have alot of stuff people give to them hoping they would find away to use it. they also had a 30 gallon tank they wernt using and my mom was gonna bring that home but someone alreaddy took it.

It really seemed to help the arthritis in my back and my fibromyalgia. No luck with my neuropathy. But then again it was just one time.

So.....
I think I may have found the perfect college to transfer to, hopefully, after i complete my final year at my current college. I am really excited about it and can't wait to do some more research although, me naturally being me, there is that little voice in the back of my head saying "don't do it you fool, stay at your current college, just do another two years and get your useless bachelor's there for olokun's sake You'll never get accepted and if you do, you won't be happy because blah blah blah blah!" But, I am putting that aside. For now at least. Idk. I am happy about it though. :)
Also, I have decided I'm going to grow my hair again (say what?) Yeah, i know right, but i have always hated cutting my hair. I had an afro for 3/4 years of highschool before I cut it and it was pretty impressive. Black (afro) hair is beautiful, but requires a shit ton of maintenance that little teenage me was totally not up for. Maybe now that i know better, I can go for a new look. Maybe braids. Or twists. Or dreads. Maybe I'll just have a big ass afro again, but idk, make it curlier which is a cool style i keep seeing nowadays.
Idk. I am just happy.

Also, Archimedes is an awesome middle name, Celaeno :D
