It is! Because of all this my doctor diagnosed me with anxiety because I feel paranoid and anxious. I can’t go to our local mermaid meetups and conventions without worrying about him being there. He usually goes to the same events I do in DFW. He usually dresses up as Prince Eric to those events and targets Ariel cosplayers or anyone dressed as a mermaid. He comes off innocent and friendly at first, but over time it revealed that he is a stalker and creepy af. No thanks to him, I ended up hating Prince Eric for a while because he reminded me of Shawn. Since then, I slowly began to love Prince Eric again because my current boyfriend helped me develop new and good memories by cosplaying as my Prince Eric at Fan Expo recently.

I just dived back in recently. My situation with Shawn Fan caused me to be on hiatus from mermaiding for a while. He traumatized me to the point where I feel too paranoid and scared to go mermaiding in DFW for a while. He stalked me at Let’s Play Gaming Expo, Dallas Comic Con, and just recently he crashed my mermaid meetup at Animefest 2017. I didn’t notice him being at my mermaid meetup until I saw a post stating he was there. He apparently snuck around and showed up when I left apparently. I think next time I host a mermaid meetup at Animefest it won’t be a public event. I get the feeling Shawn found out about it through a mutual friend because I have him blocked on facebook. I don’t feel safe around him and frankly no mermaid should associate with him.

Thanks! I’m glad that I can enjoy mermaiding again since I’m slowly getting over my anxiety about Shawn the Mervert. I feel like I needed to look out for my mersisters especially in DFW because Shawn is dangerous. He is a grown man who is at least 30 years old and goes after young mermaids. He even harassed mermaids who are minors and that happened at the Oklahoma Medieval Festival. In my previous post, I have screenshots where the manager of Merfolks of Foxmoon Productions didn’t approve of Shawn being near his daughters because they are really young. He knew Shawn was harassing them and banned him from the event.

I know from first hand experience how an ex like that makes you paranoid to even go out and to do the things you use to love, hopefully you never have to see him again. Asked info about me, like my address and my birthday/zodiac sign/height/age/marital status. He offered to buy me a wetsuit and me being naive gave him that information and he said he'd buy me a wetsuit next month. It wasn't until he got sexual (see attached photos) that I reached out to a friend and asked if she knew anything about him and if he could be a mervert. She believes all signs point to him being one.

Ok so I posted some photos of me in my tail on the mertailor private group last night. A lot of people liked it one person commented. But what is makeing me uncomfortable. Is I had one person like my page then send me a friend request, but the problem is I don’t know this person he hasn’t talked to me. He is not a mer and it looks like he has a few mers in his friends list.

Would this guy qualify as a collector?

I don’t mind adding people I’ve talked to and am comfortable with. but as it is my personal Facebook page I don’t want a bunch of strangers seeing everything I post every day.

I've had requests from him too. Just ignore him. As for setting up FB and Instagram: on FB you can make a page, there are links all over it just takes some looking, or you can do a search on Google or in the FB bar. Instagram you have to get the free app and make a profile.

I forgot to post about it on here at the time but a few weeks ago many UK mers were getting pestered by what we believe to be another alias of Sam Knight again, and I was one of them. For those not in the know he tries to get mers to come ALONE to gigs down south in England for big pay, but as far as we know it’s an ambush of some sort and he’s known to the police. This time it was under the name Ashley Johnson (so either him or a friend maybe) and I didn’t realise right away but then humoured “her” for a couple sentences to confirm suspicions. Yup, told I’d be paid to drive down etc but not my mertender and asked why I even needed one. When I said it was for safety, got a reply of “Will my boyfriend do?” Pffffff hell no genius, oh my god bye.

Got screenshots of it still as a reminder after blocking the creep. Be careful out there folks, especially new mers in the UK.

Yikes I knew merverts were a thing but I've also noticed a few people adding me in my instagram who self-identify as "mermaid collectors" or who have pages entirely devoted to reposts of mermaid photographs. These things can sometimes blur the lines between supportive and creepy. I suppose it depends on the subject matter and if credit is given to the source.

Hey guys I don't know if this particularly counts, but I thought you should all be aware of someone kind of getting into collector territory with her group on facebook. The woman is Michelle Minaj and the group is called Aunt Mary's Lipstick Fetish and is a fetish group that will often post mermaid images among their content, and I get the feeling it's mainly photos just grabbed and reposted from other people because among them was one of my mermaid training selfies with my boyfriend where I was in full makeup. This lass had half cut my boyfriend out of the photo, accidentally used HIS mer name in the caption rather than mine and linked to my mermaid page which is a branch of my business and I don't want it being associated with that stuff if I can help it. In another post the same person (who tbh appears to post most of if not all of the group's content) put not only my mer name misspelled on a completely unrelated photo, she also put my real name along with it and for some reason linked it to Merfolk UK?

Anyway these posts have been deleted/altered now because I managed to get it all sorted, but only by joining the group itself so that I could comment on the posts politely insisting on that. Reporting the posts did bugger all (thanks Facebook) and private messaging the woman did nothing. I don't know if she meant any actual harm, but oblivious or not she appears to be using many photos of other mermaids, guessing without permission, and some of them did actually look quite familiar (are Pearls of the Deep on here?) so please check if any of yours are on there. I also have screenshots of all my stuff when it was up just in case but have now left the group.

As an autistic adult, I think it's important to acknowledge both that autistic people can be bad people, and that we're not more likely to be bad people than anyone else.

If this person had misread social cues the first time, been told it was inappropriate, and corrected, that would be one thing. But my impression is that this person has done this multiple times after being asked to stop. At that point, him being autistic is irrelevant because he has been told it's harrassment and is still doing it.

First he sent me normal messages. Asking me questions and also sending me compliments.
