Wow. The first tail I saw from them was Jessica Pearl's, and I was very impressed - it's beautiful. But they have definitely stepped up their painting skills since then! The color blending in this set is just... delicious. My tail design has a lot of gradients, and I would feel confident that they could pull it off after seeing their most recent tails.

To be fair I did make it very hard for them with how detailed my design was! So they had to keep touching up parts with every coat ;) But I think their blending is by far the best. So seamless and gorgeous!

We're still under partial construction (the Shop will have more, just you wait and see!) but we couldn't wait to share this with you! Finally - an easy way to access our FAQ and other information, design a tail, place an order, buy accessories, and scroll through our huge amount of catalogued photos!

Has anyone been able to try the tail design center on their new website yet? I tried and it told me: "So sorry but the mermaid tail design center needs a wider screen to use it. It’s simply that amazing. Think of it like water: no mermaid wants to swim in a creek if the ocean is available." The problem is, this is the only computer I have... And I checked the settings but it's already as large a display as it can be. (Unless maybe the tail design center is still under construction?)

I have been thinking a lot recently. I previously said I might order a third tail from Finfolk in the future, somewhere in 2016. My grandparents have a fund for me that I can use. They even said themselves that I could use it for that. I thought about a iridescent green tail with a design close to a trout fish. But now, I'm thinking about maybe updating my very first tail instead because the one I have is imperfect. Then, the third one would have the same design but without the blended waist, bigger spots, a new dorsal, new pelvic fins, heel fins, the same fluke but with longer streamers and a trainer monofin.

What do you all think? I would love to hear your opinions.

Arion, I think you would look AWESOME in shades or iridescent green! I think the color would really compliment your skin and hair. It's hard to tell in your avatar but aren't your eyes green?

Is there a reason that you don't want another blended waist? Does the Splash tail fit you better than the blue?

I know there's been delays which got me really worried but when I checked in with Abby and Bryn two weeks ago about the production schedule they said they had caught up a LOT and production is on time. They are working extra hard to stay on schedule too. Haven't received email yet that they would have started my tail, guess it's supposed to happen in the end weeks of june then. It seems like they're doing at least 2 tails a month, so maybe you're the end of the month, like you said. I'm not sure if I'm slotted for the beginning or end of July, but they said that I would have my tail sometime in August at the latest, so I'm not too worried.

Super exhausted! At the airport ready to head back to the hotel. Abby and Bryn were incredibly nice and amazing people!!! We had such a great day today! I cannot wait to see how the photos turn out (hopefully I didn't make too many awkward underwater faces lol!), the location was GORGEOUS and overall such a fun time! Sadly I return empty handed without a tail (the new silicone is having a difficult time sticking to the old silicone of my tail) but no worries! They'll be fixing it up this week and hopefully it will be back in my hands very soon! My tail looks like a completely new tail and looks even more amazing in water!

I also ordered a top and still don't have it yet. Beware, they use the terms "soon" and "almost" A LOT. I also haven't had any luck getting the foot straps over my heels. I can't fit my hand down into the ankle to pull it up. I was thinking maybe I need a long metal hook or something? Any advice? I plan on doing a full review at some point, just been very busy and distracted :$ To end on a more positive note, the tail is beautiful and far superior quality than the other cheaper tails I've owned. It is worth the investment, just be prepared for an undetermined waiting period.

Get a long piece of ribbon, loop it around one heel, keep one leg pulled back slightly so you can reach in with your arm and pull up one heel strap, then slip the other foot in (lube or water helps A LOT) and then pull the ribbon whilst kind of... wiggling you ankle/ foot around and the heel strap should slip over it eventually.

I find my heel straps just kind of... slip on? After I stick my feet in if I wiggle em a bit haha. But then again my monofin is a size up (fits fine with either nothing or booties) so that helps too because there's some wiggle room haha. If the monofin is tight then it may be a bit harder.

Try taking your coconut oil and before putting your feet in cover the monofin straps (and possibly inside of the foot pockets if it helps) in the oil. If I have trouble with the straps I usually do that and my feet slip right in and because the strap has oil on it it just slides right up to my ankles!

In to the party late but Leeloo I'm a size ten too. I had real trouble with the foot straps at first. I have found that lubing my feet a lot really helps but a lot of the time I just didn't use the straps at all! Most of the time you do need the straps on because the weight of the fluke really pulls the whole tail down otherwise, but if you are in a hurry it works! Now my tail is about a year old I have found that the foot straps have actually stretched out a bit from use and it is now much much easier to get the straps on and off. Sometimes getting them off used to be just as hard! I would be stuck with one foot in the tail thinking i would be forced to wear it forever! Haha!

Oh hey, it's me indeed. Had no idea about this. Nobody ever asked to use this image, or more importantly asked the photographer for permission.
I certainly wasn't there (as I live in the Netherlands). I guess they just picked it out from my Facebook page or Flickr.

Get a long piece of ribbon, loop it around one heel, keep one leg pulled back slightly so you can reach in with your arm and pull up one heel strap, then slip the other foot in (lube or water helps A LOT) and then pull the ribbon whilst kind of... wiggling you ankle/ foot around and the heel strap should slip over it eventually.

I use this little trick and it's a life saver! Just be careful and super gentle when pulling the straps over your heels. Too much pressure will eventually snap your monostrap.

And about the wait times.. yeah. Been waiting for almost 11 months now. When I ordered we were talking about 6 months and aiming to get my tail for our summer 2015 (which is now..) Well, I haven't heard anything from then yet after confirming my fluke/fins etc options and my production month is over in two days. So prepare to wait. Little bit bummed right now after all the delays

Oh jeeze, I'm glad I posted it then! I hope you and the photographer can get some of the profit since I'm sure they made tons of money from the event. That really sucks... I don't understand how people can just steal images like that... No morals..

I am in college for graphic design and people who try to take shortcuts like that really infuriate me especially when I try hard to do my own work and not use someone's work without permission! I soo do not like it when people take someone else's hard work and use it as their own. I really hope this will eventually end well.

People need to realize that using someone else's photo without permission just ends up making you look bad. It is a costly shortcut.

Her good friend is one of the top photographers in the world and he said this happens alot to his works. Seeking compensation IS important and name & shame if it doesn't end well. It is VERY frustrating when a photographer & client put in so much time and effort for a shoot just to have someone else steal the product. Especially when they use the image for financial gain without permission or stoop so low as to put their own watermark on the image.....sigh
My shoots have a big, almost transparent watermark right across the middle (this acts as a deterrant and makes it harder to edit out in p.shop) and items uploaded to websites, f.book ect are not the full quality.

Their collaboration with Hannah has set them back a bit (9 days straight of photoshoots) as well as their friend Allie coming for the summer, they have set tail making days and set vacation days for Allie, since while she was there last time she didn't get to enjoy Hawaii much at all due to making so many tails for merfest:)

When they reset the schedule I was to go in April but told them to take their time as I did not really need it til July.
This past May they were working on making the individual scales, then asked to confirm my measurements in June as they were cutting material and would have pictures that week.
So far nothing. I am guessing they got wrapped up with Hannah's tail for June.

One word of advice for you : be VERY careful with your dorsal because of the V cuts between each fin. It can be ripped easily if one does not pay attention.

I learned it from experience with my first tail, the blue one with the flowy dorsal.

Supeeeeerb! <3 don't want to ruin the party but I got my last update about "starting any day now" on the first week of last month (which was my production month..) and so far nothing. Emailed girls few days before the end of june and it seems that they have my parts poured, not sure. I told them I'm being super sad/frustrated about all the delays. People/sponsors keep asking for the new tail and I'm all like "I have no clue when it will come." Can't help but feel bummed about those six new photoshoot tails too that delay things again :/

I know they are working hard and full speed. The final product will be worth the it all though :) They are bunch of sweet girls and give their best at all times!

Just prepare to wait and expect the unexpected :D

I know!! When I started reading through here especially the beginning I felt like they were busting them out super fast!!

I'm still contemplating my color scheme. There are so many to choose from. I love the idea of like a coral-ly orangeish just cause it'll really contrast between the blue water. I only have plans to use my tail in fresh or saltwater. And I also have been liking the whole salmon inspired tail. Basically a grey and white tail with hints of peachy. But I want a loreena fluke. So idk if it would be weird if I have a salt water tail with a fresh water color scheme.

I wonder why tailmakers just can't make calendar production simple. Like do a batch of tails with a certain number and only when that batch is finished, take new orders. Raven do tails by batch but she's not sticking to it since she often open a new slot once a tail is finished.

deposits made on finfolk tails are non refundable, I think they bit off mor than they could chew this summer. They're finishing a whole batch of tails right now for the see through sea photoshoots coming up. And they aren't working as many days this summer since Allie is there:)

And it's probably a lot harder to make tails in Hawai'i than Minnesota. I've been to both places...you want to avoid Minnesota, even if it's just retreating onto the studio.

Yeah, I think that's something a lot of people don't always realize. I can definitely see it from both sides, though. Hell, my tail was one of their first, I only had to wait three months for mine (including sending them all my sketches, discussing design ideas, and them making all the new molds) and it STILL felt like forever to wait! I can DEFINITELY understand how frustrated people get when they have to wait up to a year.

But then again, I've been working with silicone for a little while now, so I can appreciate what a time-consuming process it can be. On the surface it's a fairly simple process, but it can be quite fiddly, you have to keep your work surface impeccably clean, you have to clean up silicone messes, make sure you have nothing nearby that could cause cure inhibition...make sure you mix up enough silicone for what you need to use it for but not too much or it will start to cure before you can finish using it...I mean, clearly they're more experienced than me, but it can still be pretty fiddly and you have to be really careful during the process because if something goes wrong because you rushed, you'll just be making more work for yourself later. (Hope this all makes sense, I haven't finished my coffee yet :P )

Hey Everyone!

We've been asked to jump on to clarify a post we made earlier this week. We have NOT made six brand new tails for the July Mermaid Experience. We have made TWO new tails for the Experience. One for a client who was already on our July calendar and one for a client who was actually on our calendar this past spring and opted to wait. We have NOT bumped anyone back on our calendar due to the event, we are NOT currently taking new orders (we've topped off at a year wait, with a VERY relaxed production calendar, which means everyone should be receiving their tail in the timeframe quoted to them upon making their down payment), and we do have quite a few tails that have been completed and shipped, but not posted, as we have had a very busy month and are doing our best to keep up with our Instagram and Facebook posts. Hope that helps everyone better understand where we're at! :D

I finally came up with a good color scheme for my tail, it's going to be cotton candy blue and pink with silver stripes and trim. <3 My tail was set to be made in April but my schedule got lost in the move and they just found out that it's late. Thank you both. Like I said, I completely understand that things have been busy and I'm so proud with how well their business is taking off (the shoots they have been doing with clients are jaw-dropping! Yours included Mermaid Ripple! The photos are stunning)!
It's just hard because it's been a long back and forth and there was even one week in March, I believe, where they told me they were starting the top that week, but things came up (once again, understandable) and it never happened. I've been trying to make due with my own top for the time being, but it would still be nice to have the matching silicone top, especially for photo-shoots and swims coming up.
I'll probably glance through the top-making threads and see if I can get some ideas. :)

For all the mers who already have a Finfolk tail:
My production month is coming up (BIG YAY!), my tail is designed (finally), I've read the measuring guide on MN (wonderful info) but would love to hear your personal stories about how well your tail fits.

Are you happy with the fit or do you wish you allowed a little more room eg. in the ankles so straps are easier, or less room in the waist so you dont get the back flap? Or are you just completely happy and wouldn't change a thing?

As my tail is coming to Australia, I really don't have the extra money to ship it back to get adjusted (shipping is ridiculously expensive) so just want to get it pretty close to being right first time. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks

Emily's tail was a great fit and we deliberately made it very high waisted to allow for growing ;)
We measured her three times, sent all three measurements to the girls and they just took the average.
She has had her tail since Dec 2013, still fits, still going strong and the colors are as bright as the day she got it :D

My Finfolk tail is complete! I'm finally going to be unpacking it on Thursday (it's in the country but was delivered to my family's house as it's nearby a gig I have at the weekend). Super exciting!

I just have one question about the scales. I want those on my tail too (when I have the money), but I have been wondering since I first saw them if they are individual scales or not?

Finfolk doesn't do individual scales, they use scale sheets. They're still fantastically gorgeous tails!! There is only one individual scale tail maker that I know of and that's PearlieMae (my tail maker)!
Finfolk does offer a new realistic looking scale feature for which they separate each individual scale after pouring and make it look as though they are individual scale. :>

not so! They do an individual scale thing too. I know because the dragon scales only come in individual. they are very different than pearlie's though. a different look entirely
