They have three tails of similar paint jobs going right now. The one they posted more recently seems to have a little bit of burgundy in it which mine doesn't and also has different side fins. This is what they posted about the sneak peeks:

I'm a Finfolk's girl, and I personally believe there's no silicone tails made that could ever compete with a Finfolk's tail. Quality, detail, precision, customer service, colors, everything in the full silicone tail spectrum.

But that's me and my opinion :) but I also love the Merbella seashell scales and styles too. Especially the Atlantis inspired tops.

I totally get your frustration. It's one if the major downsides of dealing with very busy small businesses. You love the people, consider them amazing artists and friends, and so you feel really guilty ever expressing anything negative lest people see you as a jerk. In this case, however, your worry is certainly founded since it is so close to the deadline and they agreed to rush it for that date--so don't feel bad about venting because this wasn't just a random goal date you mentioned but a service that you actually paid for. I agree that making your own tail can be a weight off the shoulders (you know how you want it and when you want it.). I know Abby and Bryn take their word very seriously, so there is still hope you will have it in time! I had some communication issues, too, so that is probably normal since they are so busy. If it doesn't make it in time I am sure they will reimburse you the rush fee at the very least, though that may not be a great comfort. I will keep my fins crossed that you get it!

Thanks guys. Sometimes just talking about it helps & in this case it did; feels better to let some of it out. As one of those small businesses who has missed deadlines in the past (like I said, I'm human) I know if can happen & it's not a reflection on the integrity of the makers, just sometimes life happens. I have *zero* interest in learning how to mold/make silicone tails; I have little enough time in my world to get the stuff I already know how to do done. ;) I was just saying that I have little experience 'outsourcing' awesomeness. ;)

Still haven't heard anything form the girls. I did get home & get my commission finished & handed off so that took my mind off things for a few. Downloadign pics form my camera and going to post in the 'Stuff I make' thread in a bit. ;)

Heehee, I'm very excited. They said that the pic is a bit of an optical illusion due to the scale tipping and the tail is even more red in real life which is good.

Side note, I'm really glad they posted the video of the Loreena fluke with the trainer. Does anyone know a mer with a realistic fluke and trainer monofin? They have plenty of video of that fluke, but not sure which tail has which fin.

*Edit- I'm wanting to know which of the tails they have made with their 'realistic' fluke (the wider one used in their Lionfish tail and a number of others) has a trainer monofin in it.

It's morning, I'm taking my breakfast right now. So, last night was a lot of fun but damn, it was very exhausting! I underestimated how heavy silicone could be when we were inside the tail. We didn't have someone strong to carry us so we managed by ourselves how to move carefully along the rocks, the beach and in the water which was filled of stones. It was sunset so the light was amazing and it was a beautiful beach. A married couple had the same idea of spot for their photoshoot so we shared it. They were surprised but they enjoyed watching us while also doing their pictures. We attracted a big crowd as well but they were respectful and they gave us some space. Alexia, Claire's friend and our photographer, had a lot of compliments. People loved our tails, especially mine. I was really happy. I did my best with the posing and expressions but I still have a long way to go. It was my first time so I didn't do so bad but I know I could have been better.
As for my tail, it's a perfect fit. The only big problem is that it's too long in the front. While my big ass is fully covered, it's over my belly button and it bothers me because it wrinkles way too much (which is normal I know) but I'm a perfectionist so I think I'm gonna cut the top a little, maybe a slight V-shape like Ariel. The blending colors for my waist line are not really working (it's not as good as Syrena's waist line colors) so I think I will use a white scarf as a merman belt to cover it. It's a bummer but it's okay. Although if I had known earlier, I wouldn't have asked a blended waist line. Nevertheless, I still love my tail :)
Alexia and Claire have the photos so you will have to wait a little while so they can take care of the editing part. We hadn't enough time to make some raw pictures with my phone so I have nothing to show for you yet. I apologize for making you all wait a little more but I have seen the pictures and I promise they will be worth the wait. Thank you all for the support, you're amazing! :hug:

Got the top on a bra; it will work well enough for the shoot tomorrow but I plan to add to it a bit; need to maybe add some sheer fabric or something to the top edges as it baaaarely covers what it needs to lol.

Uncomfortable? I wouldn't say that. Let's just say that I was... unexperienced? It was the first photoshoot in my tail so it's not perfect and I still have a long way to go to figure out the best posing and expressions in order to give that magical feeling we're looking for.
Raising the fluke isn't so bad, I can do it many time but it's holding it up in the air that is tricky and difficult. I will get better soon enough :)

Better pictures will come. I'm waiting for the photographer to edit them and send them to me. I'm looking forward to show you all what I did.

So I had my photoshoot yesterday! Wow what an experience! The photographer had never shot a tail before and this was my first time in it so we experimented together; we both already can't wait to shoot again!

It took me about 15 minutes to get into my tail, certainly not as bad as I expected but I was luuuuuuubed up. lol! I had an ankle wrinkle but I know that I will get better at getting it on smooth.

I felt like I was flying in the tail. I loved it soooo much! The one part I'm not sure on yet is the twins cut a 'v' in the scales in the front which I think really allowed the part over my back/butt to catch the water when I was swimming. I'm not sure why they cut it; the only think I can think of is when I told them I wanted my nude waist fade to got in a 'v' in the front they thought I wanted the edge of the tail to do that? I will have to swim with the tail a bit more I think to know how I feel about it but I'm not sure if it's 'fixable' eve if I wanted it to be.

I was supposed to go swimming again today but our friends in town from Missouri didn't leave till later than expected so we stayed home. :( I do get to swim next sunday though!

Wow Blaze! The photos are so pretty, and your tail is so BRIGHT! How badly does the cut in the front affect water getting under the back? I've asked for the front of mine to actually be cut into a curve, so I'm curious if I should just suck it up and have a 'high waisted' tail if it's going to cause the top of the tail to catch in the water to have it curve down.

Also I FINALLY chose the deign for my tail after 4 months of constant sketching :P I knew I wanted a tail designed after a baby lion fish and a mainly light-colored tail, but it's been hard to blend all the colors in good amounts and translate the many patterns of the fish into a long, cohesive looking tail instead of a chubby baby fish! I also knew I wanted ankle fins and tentacles. This tail will get lots of both swim time and land time, and needs to look good in photos- I know a lot of metallic/sparkly things look great up close but in photos sometimes they fall short. I'm pretty sure it's the same dang fish, the background looks exactly the same too (rotating LCD info screen). It's actually a fully grown antenna lionfish or broadbarred firefish (Pterois antennata), not a baby volitans lionfish. The antenna lionfish is actually my favorite one, it's so gorgeous! I really want to get one!

I'm now hesitating because I said earlier - after finding out that my tail was longer than planned - that I would cut the front a little to make a V shape in order to avoid some wrinkles and the unfamous muffin top. But now, if you say that it might gape a bit at the back while swimming, it might not be worth it... I wonder if I should talk about this matter to the twins. Maybe there is a compromise that can be done.

Then, I made sure to get all the wrinkles from the ankles to the waist. The whole thing took me 15 min.
I wore a thong because silicone stick better to the skin but not the swimsuit. I wasn't worried of my big butt being watched at the beach because I was alone at this time. I wanted to swim at sunrise so time was around 7 am and nobody was there! I'm so gonna do it again tomorrow! :D

oh come on... you're a beautiful woman and besides that, a beautiful mermaid! While I understand you being self-conscious about your body, there is nothing to be ashamed off though. I was aware of how ridiculous I would seem while struggling into my tail but in my honest opinion, the beauty of the result makes up for it :)

I had the same problem with my tail, being unable to get it up over my butt, but I found a combination of spray bottle full of water + some lube does the trick. That and patience. Now I can get my tail on in 5-10 minutes instead of the 30 it took me the first time! I can't roll mine down due to not wanting to damage the pectoral fins I have. :)

Oh and re: the gap in the back, that's just going to happen. The gap is worse when you have a dorsal fin (which is why I don't have one) and the fact that the tail isn't completely adhered to our body. I get a slight gap too so I don't think it's something that can be avoided, but it's not very noticeable (I think)!

Dorsals may not always cause a gap, I'm just noting that I've observed a more noticeable gap on tails that do have a dorsal vs. those that don't. But like you said, it probably depends on the shape and position of the dorsal! Dorsals towards the waist probably have a tendency to gap more than those further towards the feet.

Please, understand that even if you get your tail higher, the muffin top is likely to still be there. It's normal because it's skin tight and your position is up while sitting so you can't do much about it but there are some tricks to hide it. Some examples with my mer-sister Syrena from Singapore :

These are still AWESOME pictures but it's up to you how to deal with the muffin top. Syrena doesn't seem to be self-conscious about it though but everyone is different. Well, there is no secret actually. I just eat what I like and go to the gym 4 to 5 time a week. This is where I do my squats ;)

If you want a booty like mine, you gotta commit to the gym and the efforts will pay off within the next 6 months.

Yes. The tail is made of latex and she did a great job with it. She doesn't want to be a tailmaker but she likes creating new tails for herself :)

I assume slick leggings will ride up with the silicone as you pull it up. I personally hate leggings or anything that sticks, yet bunches up on me.
