Just got back from the beach and brought 5 tails. LOL. Most were for my daughter because I wanted to photograph them. (these are ones I made for parties). I had a small improtu photoshoot today. My good friend and neighbor Jessica was my photogrpaher. She has no formal trainign but has always wanted to be a pro. So I gave her the opportunity. Using ony a point and shoot digital... hehe.. they came out pretty good.

Ahhh thank you so much!! <3 I actually do have another tail that's in progress, but life and work keep separating me from my sewing machine :( I'm super super excited for how it's going to look, but I just haven't been able to finish it!! So frustrating. But I do love my current orange tail a lot still :)

I was just in a diving camp and I had my tail with me, there happened to be this one very good underwater photographer and we decided to try to take few pics, even though the water was freezing! Before the photoshoot I honestly didn't think I could make it but after all I think I was in the water 10-15 minutes, and water was 11 degrees! Brrrrhhh!
I could only dive very short dives cause it started to heart on my head when I was underwater more than a few seconds, but thanks to photographer the results are just awesome!

It's actually so funny that when I tried to go normally swimming from sauna it felt impossible, like I dipped my foot in the water, squeeked and ran back to sauna while all the other ladies laughed their ass off :D After a while I did swam, but just very quickly and the water just took my breath away, literally..
It's the tail, you all know what I'm talking about :D It's like magic when you put your tail on, it just makes you emotionally so strong that you can really do amazing things while wearing it :)

This is a few months old but, me with my BFF Lisa Dawn Rogolsky, who has been a wonderful, healing influence in my life. She's truly my sister from another mister, she has genuinely changed me for the better. We have so much in common(even though she occasionally eats seafood and doesn't care much for Jem and the Holograms :p), we're both openly asexual, we both love mermaids and fantasy and fairy tales in general, we both can't swim, our favorite color is both purple, our rooms are both full of dolls and plushies, and we're both Disney and magical girl anime fangirls.

Lisa is very skilled with Photoshop, none of this backdrops are real, she actually has a degree in computer animation and is a former rotoscope artist for a CGI studio in Hollywood. Here is me in my white sequin tail and iridescent accessories all made up anime style!
Since I love cosplaying so much i wanted to do an anime theme shoot for my white tail. I used 15mm black circle lenses and dolly eye makeup giving me a surreal and cartoonish look.
I did all the designing and makeup myself.
Also am modeling a few of my items available on my new Etsy shop :D

Finally got a chance to play bathtub mermaid!!

Meeting up with this (delightful) photographer also lets me come up with the sketchiest sounding sentence I can make about my life-- "I met up with a guy from Canada I met on the internet two days prior at a hotel in Vegas so he could take pictures of me in a bathtub". In person it was NOT sketchy AT ALL, the whole shoot was super fun, but some of my friends were concerned :)

I had my first photoshoot with the Sacramento Mer-Pod (https://www.facebook.com/TheSacramentoMermaids?fref=ts) on Friday at Bridal Veil Falls in Pollock Pines. It was a lot of fun, but I have so much to learn. The other mermaids are all either models currently or have modeled, and I just die when someone points a camera at me. Please, any mers that have experience being photographed, I'd welcome any information you have. I actually had to be cropped out of some because my two expressions are "Derp!" and "Cheeeeeese!"

The photographer is wonderful, and got one or two good shots in spite of my efforts to the contrary, and of course everyone else looks beautiful. These are by Erin of Rain or Shine Photography (http://www.rainorshinephotography.com/) in Sacramento, and are property of the Sacremento Mer-Pod.

The trick when 'posing' for the camera if it's something you're not used to, is to relax and think about what story you'd like to convey.
It's like that cliche saying for actors "what's your motivation?"
And hey if a big smile is your thing, let it be your thing! While in group photos, it's good to be aware of the general energy of the shot the photographer is setting up, but you don't always need to have a specific 'model face on'. Take that gorgeous smile and work it into various expressions. Practicing in the mirror might sound silly, but it really helps to give you more perspective on a range of expressions. Models, artists and animators use this method all the time.
And have fun with it, that's the most important thing!

You have to do something more involved than a selfie, and by the end you won't have any problems working in front of a camera again! Thank you so much for the advise, Freyja. It is really hard for me to "act", especially with my face. I was a ballet dancer for many, many years and found myself more or less able to express characters that way, but having the focus on my face is so hard. I think I'll have to try the mirror thing, because I really have no idea what my face looks like most of the time. It seems like most people have their real smile and a picture smile. I just have the one, and usually it's all gums and eyes squeezed shut with mirth. Even the idea of practicing in a mirror by myself makes me want to shrivel up with embarrassment, hahaha.

PearlieMae, I'm so surprised to hear that you had some of the same struggles! You are so confident and your pictures are so beautiful. I checked out the Flickr group, and it seems pretty inactive, but the rules are still posted. I think I'll embark on the challenge regardless and see if I can make some progress. Yeah, I was swimming in the sea without goggles after I found out it didn't hurt as much as my last experience in Curacao, so it now looks like I cried my eyes out :P I was surprised at how much I could see underwater without my goggles, which made it more relaxed for me to swim without them, else I get nervous hitting something by accident. I never swim without goggles in chlorinated water, the burn in my eyes is to much then

@Elodea, love the pictures. I will say it helps if you can find a photographer you're comfortable with. That helps a ton when taking pictures. Could always talk to them a bit before the pic and go over ideas of what you want before hand.

Thanks for the compliment! ♡ I made the top by taking some large fake leaves from Craft Warehouse, removing the tough plastic veins, and then using E6000 to glue them onto a strapless nude bra. ^_^ I'll take some better photos of the top and lily pad hat for you. :)

Years of practice, I think! XD It was only until about a year ago that I stopped being terrified of letting my head go under the water (nearly drowned as a kid when I fell off a wharf) so I guess I'm just used to holding my head up like that now. I did find it a bit more comfortable today to swim with at my mouth under the surface a bit, buuuut I kept getting a little overexcited and accidentally snorting water up my nose. XD

It's a really gorgeous spot! <3 Manuels River in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland! I grew up right by there and used to go there all the time back in highschool. There are LOADS of gorgeous spots along the river that I'd love to get more photoshoots done in this summer, so hopefully that'll happen soon!

The best part about being there today was that my friends and I got there at around 11:30AM and people didn't start showing up at that end of the river until around 3PM. So we basically had the canyon to ourselves for a few hours. SO. AWESOME.
