Kinda agree with matthew. Business is business. but I kinda don't agree as well since mertailor already generates income through tail making and she's only doing mernaid camps (I think, correct me if I'm wrong).
But where are they both located? There's a bunch of mermaid schools and camps all around, so i think the more the merrier

I really don't see the big deal with this?? Like, "Mermaid Camps" and classes like that have been around for a while and they're starting to become more and more popular lately. There are a lot of people starting up their own mermaid camps lately and, honestly, I'm not surprised that Eric is planning something like this— they're not only a good way to advertise his tails, but can help build up his brand and create brand loyalty with his potential clients. If he has the time to dedicate to organizing these camps, then I don't see why not.
Unfortunately, I think this is one of those things that MermaidsRUs is just going to have to learn to get over. :/ I know it can be a bummer when someone more popular starts generating hype for a new service that's similar to something you're already doing, but... The idea really isn't that original in the first place.
(Also if you want me to be COMPLETELY honest, if she's going to whine on Facebook about the ~*big fish stealing from the little fish*~ she should, you know, quit tagging her stuff with Mertailor's name on Instagram to try to nab some of their clients. Just my two cents.)

Mermaid camps arnt a new or original idea, it all depends on the following audience of people who are interested , location , pricing and planning etc.
I don't think its the " big fish stealing from little fish " kind of thing. It can't be helped that some businesses are more known then others . or that some mermsid tail makers has more satisfied customers then mermaidsrus . I agree with Matt on this

Natural sympathy causes me to feel sorry for the underdog here, but I confess that I know little about Mer MaidsRUs or mermaid camps. Matthew appears to be "rubbing it in" a bit, but Barbara is correct that this doesn't reflect well on either company and needs to stop.
Theta

I don't think he's rubbing it in so much as addressing it directly instead of being passive aggressive.
Mermaid camps are nothing new. I remember Weeki Wachee having one in the early 1990's- I remember seeing it on the news- although I don't know how long it lasted. There are a couple in the Philippines as well. No one has any right to them as a concept, same as everything else in this community.
I want a MERMAIDS NEED CAMPS t-shirt. It's so delightfully silly out of context.
Kishiko
08-11-2014, 11:09 AM
Weeki wachee still does camps for girls up to 14 and then the sirens of the deep camp for women 30+. So if were being technical we could say mermaidsRus tried to steal it from weeki wachee.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to! I was going to comment on it, but I though Matt's comments were sufficient enough to what I was going to say.
My main thing wit MermaidsRus is that they need to focus on making better tails and stop biting off more than the company can chew. They complain about being a "small fish" but all of the tailmakers started out as small fish! they put their money where their mouth was and produced things that turned them into big fish.

I'm with Nana and Kishiko; throwing these at Mermaids R Us would be kinda cruel. Pretty fun to indulge in here, though!
Cruel? Harmless pictures of cool shirt/tops about mermaids camp posted on a Facebook page??
Well, first, I would say MermaidsRUs started the drama and second, let's do not forget what Waikiki mermaid has been through here because of them. Then, let's imagine a dozen (probably even more..) of other disappointed mermaids in the US once they found out how poor quality these tails actually are...
Like Raina said before, they are not so innocent. I say that karma is a bitch. When you make bad decisions, there are always consequences. They had their chance to get better when Waikiki mermaid called them out even on Facebook, they obviously didn't change their ways. They even copied Raven.
So again, "cruel"? No, I would say it's just another deserved slap in the face.
Just my two cents -shrug-
And there the spiral continues. Just kidding.
I'm not a community expert. I'm just here to have fun. So I have no clue what MermaidsRUs has done.
Kishiko
08-11-2014, 06:40 PM
Well two wrongs don't make a right. Just because they have screwed over other people before doesn't give us all the right to go and be blatantly mean to them. Its just not our fight..sure we can warn other meets about their rep and everything but that does not justify being plain faced rude to them for no personal reason. I'm by all means not trying to start more drama, please know I mean no disrespect, I just don't think its right to do that.

That is certainly a viable possibility; trolls and ogres can be fairly interchangeable in some mythology, but D&D does make a clear distinction. I only remembered merrow, however, as my D&D books are all locked away somewhere in the basement/cold cellar....
As for volcanic steam, Galene, it is very hot and very dangerous for those not adapted to live down there, but the Undersea Volcano is actually the penultimate stage in The Little Mermaid for the old Nintendo Entertainment System!

it's the scottish/gaelic word (equivalent) for mermaid.

I was kinda thinking of real life vog. That stuff can kill you! But it makes sense that merfolk in mythology are okay with it.
MermaidMichelle
08-13-2014, 01:34 PM
caltuna - Well, the Scottish/Gaelic equivalent for 'mermaid' in Dungeons & Dragons is a Sea Ogre! The game is known for playing (pun!) upon any differences in interpretation from one monster to the next (the Ningyo is also different from the traditional mermaid, though not simply a fish with a human face as in Japanese mythology) so as to have as varied a roster as possible.
Galene - The game is not known for its realism, and in fact it and the movie have given Ariel a considerable array of superpowers! One of which allows her to survive undersea volcanoes, which are dangerous and fascinating places as I describe in this LP of the NES Little Mermaid:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_HRmic4I6I&list=UURr6eQC877_9G09wXvT7lkQ

Merman Dan - Well, c'est vrai; none of those books are experiencing use. The last one that saw any was Warriors of Heaven; a 1999 2nd-Edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons supplement! As for 4th Edition, well, I only have the two dragon books...which I received as gifts...and have never used. That looks so nice you posted twice! :mermaid kiss: Back in the summer/fall of 1998 I considered running a 2nd Ed. AD&D campaign like that wherein all the players would be merfolk; one of the DRAGON magazines of that summer gave info on how to play them and they were nearly exactly the same as aquatic humans (save that they had level restrictions of around 9, which noone ever reached anyway).
As for 3.5e, I haven't played since being the Trumpet Archon (angel) Aeonstar in this somewhat-iconic World's Largest Dungeon campaign: http://spacecrime_wlg.livejournal.com/ My replacement in case Aeonstar ever died was a mermaid Cleric/Dracolyte who took care of a baby (and could summon an Adult) Bronze or Gold Dragon (DM's choice) and was named Meirisu Mizuhime (say it out loud). She seems pretty perfect for your campaign, so it is very tempting....

I always, always, ALWAYS hated Atlantica in Kingdom Hearts. For one reason:
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110809070841/kingdomhearts/images/8/89/Dolphin_Atlantica.png
I HATED the model on the damn dolphin. The tail is all wrong. :C
I remember playing through that area and every time I saw that dolphin I'd get REALLY IRRATIONALLY MAD. Like no, you're a dolphin, not a shark, your tail shouldn't be like that. HOW ARE YOU EVEN MOVING UP/DOWN LIKE THAT WHEN YOUR TAIL SHOULD BE MOVING FROM SIDE-TO-SIDE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.
God I haven't played KH in forever. I adored the first game, wasn't so keen on the second one (though the battle system was a HUGE improvement), and I haven't played any of the others (I tried that 32435u8430543/2 Days one on DS and ended up hating it tbh, I just can't stand Organization XIII for the most part). I think I still have my copy of KH1 at my dad's place somewhere, I'm gonna have to see if I can nab it and play through it again. *w*
Also, I just realized that that old-as-damn Kingdom Hearts AMV I made like 8 years ago is still on YouTube (http://youtu.be/qDi6xLkcSJw)...

I'm sorry, Seaweed, but I'm believing less and less that you're Esther's aunt and believing more and more that you're Esther. This account was created right after I told Esther she was too young to be on MerNetwork (and she proved herself too young as well by harassing and asking for personal info from many mers). You follow the writing and posting patterns of Esther. The email that is linked to this account is linked to a FB account, for which mers have told me that you revealed to them through that FB account that you were a kid- rather than a 50-something year old (which the year on your birthday doesn't match on this account and the FB one.. I wouldn't think someone would mistype their own birth year). Also your IP is the same as Esther's, which when looked up matches Esther's home location. On top of all of that, the FB profile only friends mermaids (and people who have mermaids as mutual friends) and posts nearly only mermaid related things, and posts the same way and on the same pages as Esther did. The account was made in early spring, right after Esther's last FB account was deleted as many reported her as underage. (I lost count of how many of her FB profiles were deleted for her being under age and she kept making more.) And said email that links these two accounts brings up nothing, as does the name in searches.. having that bare of a record typically means the account is fake and the name is made up.
Therefore, I have to conclude that you are Esther. And I'm sorry, Esther, but you're still to young to be on MerNetwork. If you're under 13 you MUST have parental permission to use the site. I'll be suspending your account. If you want to be on here I need to hear from your parents- have them contact me via email.

Yeah, I actually looked into that before. You have to either be the parent of the child, or Instagram has to be able to "reasonably verify" them to be under age. Which.. you can't even link to any comments where they say they're underage. They have to be able to look at the photos of themselves that they've posted and be "this kid is DEFINITELY under 13", which isn't always doable since a lot of people look different ages around their pre-teens depending on when you hit growth spurts or puberty, ect. It's pretty much useless. That's why there's kids running amok on Instagram. And it drives me nuts >_<

On the one hand, yeah, totally awkward...
On the other, "Calypso" isn't exactly an original name, and especially after Pirates of the Caribbean it's a name that people typically associate with the ocean in some way, so I wouldn't really hold it against them.
Still though, that is such a nice fluke shape. :swoon: I could totally see my mersona having that fluke...!!
Also, semi-unrelated question: I saw the picture earlier and I'm a little lost. I know it's black and... can someone tell me what other color that is? I've seen them use it on a few of their other tails and have seen people/tailowners with that color on it refer to it as gold, but it just looks like a really pale beige to me??? I have difficulty seeing a lot of colors (basically colorblindness, only everything in general is a lot less saturated as opposed to just a handful of colors being outright missing) and it's even more difficult looking at just photos sometimes, so I'm not sure if it's actually gold or if it's supposed to be the beige I'm seeing. Raven didnt' publicly announce her new fluke design name. Finfolk didn't copy it's just a coincidence. I tried to talk Raven into keeping the name and just explaining her idea behind it and her new line of things coming out, but I suspect she'll change it because she's sensitive to the whole copying thing since she's had so many people rip her stuff, and she wouldn't want to look like she was copying them either. But yeah. That's what happens when you get too busy and can't post online as much :( She puts out loads of tails but no time to post online, my fluke has the name calypso and she sketched it for me in February and has been making flukes for clients with that name in their invoices ever since.
I'm not sure what she'll do now. These things just happened.
MermaidMichelle

Yes, I remember Raven's Calypso fluke being in-the-works. Calypso has been associated with the tropical even before Pirates due to the dance, the chicken, etc., so it would be a bit of a shame if Raven dropped it. I don't know if anyone's copyrighted a fluke name (as opposed to a company name), and I imagine other tail companies would be interested in doing their own Angler fish or Koi flukes also, so I don't want Raven's creative flow to suffer even nomenclaturally.
Still, there are a lot of cool imaginative names that evoke mermaid imagery, like Deep Revelation, Pearlescent Paradiso, Marianas, Mesmer, Azure Wave, Crystal Blue, Tidal Echo, Caspiana, etc. (I just thought of these off the top of my head, noone owns them).
(Just today my friend Isis (a former contestant/all-star on America's Next Top Model) posted on Facebook with a mermaid picture and typed, Everytime I get in the bathtub I be like.......... #mermaid (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/mermaid)#water (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/water))

This type of thing happens in all circles of artists. I sell Tree of Life designs. So do a lot of people. And I'll have some of my friends tell me that there are other trees out there just like mine. Of course there is. It's a design that's copied by thousands of people. It's when I start to see another pendant that looks EXACTLY like mine that I start to get itchy.
As far as the fluke, I get where Raven would be touchy about having the same name as another tail supplier.
I do find it strange how some trends come about almost at the same time, without coordination or copying from the different artists. It happens a lot.

I stand on the base of "if this was a big deal should've sent them a private message when they first announced they were doing stuff with the name Calypso."
I've been sitting over here in Minnesota, watching their posts and it was like a month ago when they posted that they were gonna use the name, logic dictated to me it was gonna be a fluke. I had no idea that Merbella was looking at doing the same. I don't stalk that page as much as I do finfolk.
I look at the flukes like this: you have a tail maker, you are talking to them and you pick one of their flukes. ABC or D. And you go to a different tail maker with the options of BCD or E. Just because some of the titles match doesn't make them the same between the two. Even "basic" is different between makers.
I've been sitting here excited and waiting to see the fluke they hinted at, it just happened to be named Calypso, They could've named it George and I would've been just as excited.
I understand Merbella not wanting to use the name now, it's sad, but I can understand it on an artistic level. Though I would've seen no pain at all with a Calypso fluke from the Finfolk tribe existing in the same sea with a Calypso fluke from the Merbella tribe.

I think the issue in terms of others contributing is that Raina has repeatedly mentioned that she herself is working on something and that it actually does involve her own research and affect her book. What she was sharing here was not really meant to be a discussion over what to use and not to use, just that she found that the wipes were useful and safe, and that maybe others would, too.
We already have another thread about discussing tail care and maintenance (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?3108-%26%239734%3B-Tail-Care-and-Maintenance-The-Official-Thread). That's the thread to post in if you feel you like something better or if something else works better for people with sensitivities, etc. This thread is solely about the wipes.
I also feel like she (Raina) was trying to set a boundary or at least a little bit of a reminder to another mer in an attempt to reign the discussion back to the original post, and they either didn't get it or chose to ignore it. This thread really got derailed though, IMO. Maybe it's just my English, but I actually doubt that my ESL is the culprit here, and more suspect this thread lost track of what the OP was about.
I apologize, too, if I sound short or snippy. I can't actually think of a way to to phrase what I'm trying to say differently. So I'm really sorry if my tone came off as total b***h in this, or if I misinterpreted what was going on. That wasn't my intent at all.

So, I'm just a little confused. Raina, you volunteered your suggestion, then sounded upset because people read that suggestion for free and had questions about it. If you didn't want this to be free information, I'm not sure why you posted it. You also seemed to be annoyed because you were the only person contributing to this thread. So then I made a suggestion, and I'm apparently being chided for contributing, in addition to having my suggestion completely shot down just because it isn't the exact same method that Raina uses.
Please educate me. Is there a kind of thread where only one person is allowed to post information? Because if so, I would appreciate there being some designation as such. Perhaps comments should be disabled for this thread, if there is not meant be an exchange of ideas.
I never in any way implied, Raina, that you were offering a suggestion that you felt would harm people. And we all understand that you are the most experienced working mermaid here. I have often expressed my appreciation of your contributions to the community, and I'm always grateful for your insights. But you can't judge the effectiveness of every alternate cleaning solution in every silicone tail in every possible set of circumstances. And the fact is that many people have chemical sensitivities, and that many chemicals' potential health effects have been inadequately researched. In many cases the information presented in MSDS documents is derived only from research funded by the manufacturer, so it is not always an unbiased assessment. Still, I never said or implied "Raina's wrong, nobody use Lysol." I simply said alternatives exist, and people might want to know about them and try them.
I'm glad that Lysol wipes work for you, and they may well be a great solution for most people. Thank you for mentioning it, whether you meant it to be a free suggestion or not. I am simply offering some alternatives, so that we can all have choices. If my offering of free information from MY experience and knowledge in the context of discussion was wrong or inappropriate, then again, I would ask that some clarification be given with regard to rules for posting. If certain threads are "one voice only," I suggest that those threads be labeled "NOT FOR DISCUSSION." Then perhaps, if I want to offer my own suggestions, I can post my own Not For Discussion thread. Thank you.

whooa easy there.
First off, Anahita's comment does not all directly apply to you. I think like, 1 point does and that's fine if you disagree. But if you didn't notice this thread DID get derailed fairly fast, and the only reason I even mentioned that I provide information for free is because I (and clearly some others) felt another users posts to be a bit demanding/entitled surrounding the topic. I don't think it's fair to complain that we're saying people can't "discuss it" because I think if this level of derailment happened in another thread it would make perfect sense to ask people to move it to a more appropriate thread. This is not the HOW TO CLEAN YOUR TAIL thread, or how to care for your tail thread. It's a thread specifically about trying Lysol wipes. I made a thread way back when about how awesome I found the neoprene half booties for monofins. If people derailed that by getting into a major discussion about monofin types etc I'd ask them to move that to the main monofin thread discussion page too. I also feel like you made you point more than once and I replied with that I didn't feel it worked for me, more than once. I'm not sure if it's because someone asked for a comprehensive list (which I replied I wouldn't be doing) so you felt it would be helpful to re-list what works for you. But that's really all that bugged me about your post, and I actually just left it alone because I was more upset by the other users who also repeatedly posted their request for a "list" which I answered more than once I wasn't going to do.
So from my perspective, I have offered a free (only labelled as such because I was semi-called out for not having offered more info) piece of information that I researched and tested, which got a reply from you about your alternatives WHICH IS FINE but they were mentioned I feel in a very shoot mine down from the start as opposed to "That doesn't work for me because I am sensitive" or "I would prefer something more all natural." and brought up more than once. One time I can kinda feel like, sure okay, that's your thing, but I don't see the need to list them both twice when you've already said it. That's when I feel a thread is getting derailed. I tried my best to NOT shoot yours down but simply say "that never worked for me" or "that wasn't enough for me" which is 100% true. I would much much prefer as someone who tries to live an all natural life style to use things like that. But with a silicone tail I honestly do not feel it is ENOUGH. Which is why I started researching to begin with. I think a lot of people have opinions on the forum and it's fine but until they physically experience trying to handle the things I am making suggestions about, they're just opinions. And that last statement isn't so much directed at you, but a frustration I have. If I started using Lysol wipes at the very start, I wouldn't have the issues I am having with mold in my tail. But I tried all these things first and they weren't enough. For me, this has been the only thing that works and I've got video showing it.
Then I've got a user who feels entitled to my information who has to announce they'll be offering what they know I have worked hard on for free, almost like rubbing it in my face. And I wouldn't stop someone from doing that, but can you see how that came off kinda rude to me and demanding? Again, totally derailed.
I feel like appropriate posts for this thread are asking me how I clean the tail with the wipes, where to by the wipes, information about the wipes. lol.. I'm not saying people can't post other things but I think it's fair to say based on the standard we set in other threads, that it can easily be derailed. And we do have threads 100% dedicated to cleaning methods and it was my intention to link this thread once my video was done to that main thread.
So now that I've said my piece let me take a step back,
I'm sorry if Anahita's comments, and mine echoing it, made you feel attacked. It was not the intention by either of us. She recognized I was trying to put a boundary down with my thread to keep it on the subject I planned, and my boundary to not be guilted/bullied into giving away loads of information for free. She saw that people weren't recognizing my more quieter attempts at redirection (e.g. not making a giant post like I am now, lol). I was not going to say anything actually, even though it bothered me because I just didn't want drama and I wasn't sure how to word why I was bothered. But when she posted her comment I felt like it really summed up what I was feeling so I echoed her. You're more than welcome to discuss things and I feel it's a bit unfair to suggest I am not open to discussion. I talk more than anyone else here lol. But perhaps a better compromise/ solution would be if you created a thread with "all natural" cleaning options? I never bothered because as I mentioned before, it never worked for me. But if you think it could help some other people and I know many would prefer all natural I think it would be worth it to do. But given that idea, consider how you'd feel if I jumped in and didn't acknowledge any of that hard work or even recognize that your methods could be a solution for some and just said more than once "I use lysol wipes" and then "I don't understand why you don't just list every possible cleaning method for every tail! come on Galene!" and that's sort of how I felt with my post.
However I promise if you do make the thread I wont do that ;) I think it would be a good edition to the tail care index!

Well, from my perspective, here is where the misunderstanding occurred. I saw commenters asking for alternatives, so I offered some. Then there was more discussion, and again, commenters still seemed to be searching for alternatives, so I simply offered them again. I never said Lysol didn't work or that your experience was in any way invalid. And I did say not using ammonium chloride was "my personal preference." I thought it seemed appropriate to discuss both the pros AND cons of Lysol. That's all. It seemed appropriate to me, because I thought this thread was a discussion thread. If there are rules as to what precisely is permitted to be said in this thread, they were not clear to me. "...the standard we set in other threads" is an interpretive standard, not an explicit one, and I think that's the crux of the problem.
I think the reason this thread got derailed, if indeed it did, or that some or all of us misinterpreted the intent behind certain comments, is, again, simply this: It is not clear when a thread is meant to be a discussion of the initiating suggestion, and when a thread is meant to be just a note not open for discussion. I think if, in fact, there are two or three kinds of threads, they should be designated as such in the thread's title. Because if this thread had been designated a "no discussion of alternatives or further detailing of related information" thread, others might not have pressed for more detailed information, and I would not have presented an alternate point of view.
I think it's very important to make that distinction clear, if we want this to be a welcoming, open community. I am seeing a pattern here, forum-wide, in posts that start simply as informational but then end up with drama. And I really think that's often because people get angry when they believe a thread has been hijacked or that opinions are being shot down, when in reality all that's happening is people are attempting to have an open discussion. This is not a problem just on MerNetwork, but in web forums in general.
I'm no longer a newbie here. I've read and participated in many threads, and I still apparently am not able to derive a clear sense of appropriate content by comparing one thread to another. I find it hard to know which threads, among the thousands here, are to be used in comparisons that interpretively set the standard for appropriateness. And I don't think I'm the only community member in that boat.
If not all threads are discussion threads, let's just be clear so we can avoid these situations. Notes, lectures, even advertisements, all have a place, as do open discussions. They all have their uses. But if there are to be strict boundaries between these types of posts, let's just bring them into the open and define them. Let's state where those boundaries lie. Right now it all seems very amorphous to me, with some discussions proceeding blithely along, and others devolving into a cascade of accusations, hurt feelings, and admonishments about not following rules, when those rules are not at all clear.

Okay, so then I guess I'm dumb. Apparently everybody gets it but me. Thanks for making that clear, Raina. I now see that some posters own their threads and noone else should dare contribute to those threads. I always thought that format was a blog rather than a forum, but I'm the dumb one who knows nothing.
I'm out of here.

Im not sure why you continue to take things so personally, no one said you're dumb and I dont think there's a need to get so dramatic about it. You and I clearly arent communicating well on this so I asked to move on- these posts are taking away from the thread. I really feel like your reaction posts here are disproportionate to what's being said is there something else going on Im missing? I think you're great Galene and have always appreciated your support. but I def think things are a bit off here. Maybe just a bad day? I know it's hard on the internet to judge tone from people but nobody personally attacked you or spoke to you disrespectfully. I only even specifically replied to you because you replied to Anahita's comment so personally.
I want people to be able to look at this thread and see how the wipes work, not Raina and Galene arguing. Especially since I think you're awesome. It's the internet. Communications suck. I've butted heads with Anahita and Pearlie Mae both but we just laugh it off and move on.

09-10-2014, 11:55 AM
Well, here's the thing. By saying "we made that clear, move on," when I brought up some salient points carefully expressed, you just invalidated the worth of my contribution and implied that everyone else understands what I do not. If this is not the place for this discussion, fine, I can start a new thread. But your response was the very kind of thing that frustrates me on MerNetwork. There's a time to move on and a time to address a widespread problem with the forum. I thought it was relevant to the Lysol thread because of the full history of posters on this thread. But again, I am not clear on who makes the rules and how they are applied. I guess this is your thread, and discussion is not allowed, so this is my last comment, and I will not make the mistake of contributing to your threads in future.

In thinking about my comments on this thread, I see in retrospect that some of them probably did constitute a hijacking of the thread. My questions and concerns about community rules and standards really didn't belong here. So I publicly apologize to Raina for asking her to provide clarification about those things; it's not her responsibility. I also apologize for any comments that seemed hostile or derogatory in tone; that was never my intention. Let the record show that I very much value Raina's expertise and that I continue to admire her helpful role in this community.
I've started a new thread here (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?9082-Clarification-of-Community-Rules-and-Standards&p=147343#post147343) for a discussion of those questions about community rules and standards, and I hope the Administrators will weigh in with clarification - not just for me, but for all of us. Thanks.

I feel like before this turns into a bash Eric thread let her email him and give him a chance to fix it. I really can't believe he has been nasty to anyone cuz I just haven't seen it. That's weird.

He punched 6 holes in my monofin in my tail and blamed me and my ability for its lack of function. Look in the mertailor forum and check out my thread. It includes his email blaming me. Hes done it before and hell do it again. No one deserves that after spending hundreds on his products.

First; that's rude (basically calling people liars),
second; it's not very informed, because shoddy work and rudeness have a mertailor history almost as old as ancient Egypt.

We are very chill here. Far from me to stir the pot up. I have never been in business with Eric and I never will thanks to what I have learned of him through those emails from pissed customers that are mentioned occasionally on his Facebook wall and that get bashed by his loyal fan base as "ungrateful", "unnapreciative", "not deserving of his talent" and other not-nice things.
It irks me that every time someone has a problem with Eric and comes here to vent and seek advice, a customer of his that is happy comes and claims that Eric "has never been like that to me", and that even if they do not pretend to call people liars saying such thing, it puts in doubt the veracity of their words. Intent is not magical - "I did not mean to hurt/doubt someone" does not imply that they, in fact, did not hurt/doubt someone.
I still remember the mother of mermaid Paige, that came here, called all of us "nasty", and the daughter ended up appearing as a model on his website and that somehow "won" a partial silicone tail at Merfest, as published in her Facebook page (January 4th). I wonder how that happened [sarcasm].
It's great that not everyone has had a bad experience with Eric - good for them. But I would like for people to understand that not everybody has had the same luck as them.

The drama on this forum honestly makes me want to hurl. I thought we all had fun in our mermaid outfits and no one was any better than the other and there wasn't some weird set of rules and we could be happy being mermaids and build each other up. Turns out there are mer queens and kings and jokers and hateful people and passive aggressive bullies just like every where else. If this is what this is about then I really don't see the advantage of being a member. It is so disappointing. I'm sorry your top got messed up. Thanks Raina. I'm just going back to lurking or Facebook.

It just makes me mad you'd even suggest that. Mertailor wasnt even there for most of the stuff or present at merfest for most of anything. I watched those tickets go into the bucket I helped collect them.
You can be mad if you like. Call me an skeptic , Raina, but I am too old and I have seen too many things to believe in happy coincidences. Of all the people at Merfest the winner just happens to be her mother/her? (And I never said they were not nice people). At most ruffles the people that are affiliated in any way with a company do not participate AT ALL. And she is affiliated with him if her picture is in display on his website. Many times that specification is even written in the bases of the ruffle to avoid precisely what I am thinking. A ruffle can very well be fixed.
Am I saying it was? No. I have no proof of that. But I do not believe it was luck.

Sorry, but saying "I don't believe a word of what you say! (But I'm not implying you are lying)" sounds like splitting hairs to me.
I've seen the process just too often of someone calling everyone who has made different experiences untruthful, nasty, hateful, etc, it just gets tiring.
And the obligatory "MN is filled with drama and hate!" at the end.
Anyway, that's indeed a derailment of the thread, so I'm out.

She's publically posted her own home address and contact information before which is... Not a great thing for kids to be doing on the internet. No matter how much people try to educate her, she doesn't seem to learn and just pops up again under a different name pretending to be someone else and does it all over again.

Im sorry but I think what this thread turned into is the reason people get scared away from here, not how we feel about Eric. We all bombarded her with drama when all she did was ask for help. we should all feel bad. I do.
Anything further, other then the topic at hand, should be moved elsewhere to prevent hurt feelings in any way.
I truly hope Eric steps up and gets you a new top in great shape, but I think youve gotten some great advice from a few if he doesnt. I think adding pearls or other tiny decorations to fill in the holes would look lovely. Since it does not have a bra base, you can always add one. I hope you can get it fixed up either way so you can get back to swimming care free.
I apologize if anything I or anyone else said anything that offended you in here. I know we all started with the best of intentions but it got out of hand. I hope we didnt upset you and that you do let us know what happens with your top.

Yes she became very full on for awhile but then I just talked to her about boundaries and also to limit her messages and skype sessions to Emily once a month. She has followed my suggestions and we have not had a problem since :)
So my suggestion is if your being constantly harassed by her, be honest and tell her ;)
But her impersonating Thom is a complete NO NO and illegal! I have not seen the Instagram but if someone has the page tell her to stop and the legalities of it! She is just a very young and unsupervised individual with no boundaries :(

So on instagram today I was looking through the mermaid hashtag when I stumbled across a photo of me on someone's Fin Fun fan page. I wrote in the comments of this photo saying thank you and that I'm flattered they like it but I'd like them to ask first before reposting one of my photos and for credit. This account deleted my comment and didn't respond to me. My photo is still on there. I looked through other photos on the account and this person reposts a TON of younger kids (I'm talking anywhere from 7-12 looks like) without crediting them or probably even telling them that they're using their photos which is alarming. The account is called "finfun.fab" and if anybody has any advice on how I should go about this message me please.

I had a hole about that size in mine but didnt need to do all that to fix. I made a patch.. Silicone poured onto glass plate. Let it cure.. Then adhered it with more silicone to inside where cut/hole was. lined up original silicone.. and put a seam of silicone in side the cut/slit/hole area.. held it til it was starting to cure.. then left alone to fully cure.. You cant even see the hole or find where it was anymore..
Ive done work on my tail. If anyone need simpler ideas for small fixes.. Feel free to msg me.

She's not giving advice. She's not being nice either. Her post is intentionally baiting. She jumped to huge conclusions in her post. No one is doing any of the crap she's accusing people of. Not in my thread and not in the others. Lose respect while you continuing enjoying my 100s of tutorial posts for free. You wouldn't be the first and won't be the last. Or perhaps you should educate yourself on the history of Jesse tails. Just an idea. Nerine established right from the start our tails are different and I made it pretty clear already that her suggestions won't work. So she basically ignored my post and jumped in to add herself. Which she does to a lot of my stuff online and I'm tired of it. I'm sure she's pming you a sob story but there's a whole host of ncmerfest roommates who could pm yah a different side too. Frankly, I'm out of f**** to give. I'm not the one on a mission to disprove someone. Which seems to be her pattern in all the mc threads she posts in. Just go look at christians thread for yourself and once again the sweeping generalizations of events that actually aren't happening.
Teiri where's the drama bingo?

You know, I... Actually have to agree with AnnaAbyss on this one. There really was no need to get so vicious with Nerine, she was just offering a trick that might have helped you save time on fixing your MC tail... But you didn't even address that, just attacked her. :/
That was way out of left field, what the hell.

I have 'educated' myself on Jesse's tails. The way you're speaking to me is rude and I don't appreciate it. "Lose respect while you continue enjoying my 100s of tutorial posts"? So arrogant. And for the record I internally cringe when I see your posts. The fame has gone to your head.
I'm out.

I don't mean any disrespect, but I see this attitude from you a lot, Raina, a lot and our community is small. You may have every reason to dislike someone, but being so aggressive can end up discouraging people from wanting to become a part of the community and post here. Even if she means ill will toward you, just try to be civil and remember that there are a lot of mers looking up to you as their example. :)

Which is why I flip out about one tenth of what I'd like to do sometimes ;) call me rude but I think its a big double standard honestly. And while I appreciate your point about being civil sometimes a person also has to put down a personal boundary regardless of how rude it makes them look.

You may have to put up a boundary, but that does NOT mean you have to be so rude and such a butt. Just because she may have said something you did not like or you just don't like her, does NOT mean you are to react that way. It was uncalled for, and all in all, like a two year old throwing a tantrum. I respect you because you've made your way from basically nothing into a professional, but i do NOT respect the way you treat people sometimes. You can't just post something like that and expect no one to say anything. I read the whole thread, and she was suggesting a way to fix the hole, not being all high and mighty. Maybe she did get all high and mighty at some other time, but honestly, I'm fairly sure that wasn't the case here.

That's very true! You have the right to set clear personal boundaries and sometimes, that calls for us to be rude, but those are drastic exceptions. If someone's bothering you on a forum, your reputation is at stake if you also respond to them on that forum. And either way, if someone is baiting you and you respond aggressively, you gave them exactly what they wanted. Better to be civil and give the benefit of the doubt unless they're clearly threatening you. Otherwise, you can end up with a bad reputation in the community. And I'm afraid, from what I've seen here, that that may have already happened. Again, I mean no disrespect whatsoever. I just want you to enjoy being a mermaid and we're meant to be in pods, not swimming alone. :)
Her comment under the astrixes maybe could've been worded differently or not added. But I see no problem with the top part of the comment, which was valid advice.

That's true, it's your thread. But I think you do care what we think or you wouldn't be upset that there aren't snarky remarks and animated gifs like you were hoping. And if that's true, I really hope it all works out for you on here. I'll leave your thread be since it's already strayed far from the original topic. Good luck fixing your tail, as well! :)

Which is pretty much what pissed me off and underminded the whole top part for me. Had it just been the top I'd of said " thanks but with permawet that won't work as I previously mentioned"

I really just want to make it last because I loan it out to girls who don't have reliable tails. As someone joked on my fb: where's the Oprah of you get a tail and you get a tail.

this is why my monitor is covered in correctional fluid, I have to white out some of the stuff that I just don't agree with and at the end of the day I'm happier (but my monitor is less usable)

Haha haha. I've never heard it referred to as correctional fluid [emoji14]
Yeah, in like the pen with the little ball bearing inside, and you have correction tape, which comes on the wheel. I guess I could call it white out like normal people

I have to say I agree with most of the other posters on this thread. After seeing both your interactions on this forum as well a social media, it is clear that you can go from 0 to defensive in a split second. And yet you love to play the victim while at the same time bullying and condescending others. It is a truly a spectacle....actually, much more like a a shit show that was entertaining at first but now is quite exhausting. I had to laugh about the commenter and the "fame" going to your head. Fame indeed. Have you ever consulted with a physician about prescription medication to help you with both your anxiety and delusions of grandeur? Now, try not to spend the entire night concocting a novella response to this. I know how you have an absolute compusion to have the last word.

I think it can be hard to hold your tongue sometimes and I have to say I'm leaning towards Raina's side with this one - sometimes people just get under your skin again and again and again and then on the next occasion you just blow up. It happens to us all and I don't think Raina is guilty of it any more often than most people. Nerine has had a history of being stubborn and taking offence to things, as well as pretty much calling Raina a liar. I value her as a part of the community and I think she has good intentions, but, good intentions don't shield you from backlash. I really hate to get in on drama (even more so when I'm outnumbered, haha) but while Raina's post might have been more hostile than it needed to be, I don't think it was 100% out of line. We all get frustrated with people and sometimes act rashly - let's not make this one giant ball of hate?
I love that my comments on correction fluid have made it into the drama thread. Sorry guys but this is kinda funny to me

There are tons of things wrong with this whole friggin mess. I'm getting around to having a talk with those I feel that need it, handing out reprimands as needed.
But I wanted to say this publicly, as I have said before in the past, essentially making fun of or pushing labels of mental illness onto other members is ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY. There are ACTUAL people, many on this forum who have mental illnesses (there's even a whole thread about it!) some of which include anxiety disorders and OCD. Labels like this are not okay to throw around or make fun of. This is an offical warning, anyone who does this again is going to get suspended at least. It's low and a form of ableism and I won't have it on my forum.

That is the thing....I don't mean it as a joke at all. I personally suffer from anxiety....lots of the compulsive and aggressive behavior I see you display just online I have also dealt with. Nevertheless, you really might want to consider it as medication has made me a much nicer person. Just a suggestion.

If she DOES have either of those you are coming off as essentially bullying her for it. Seriously, unless people openly talk about their mental health issues don't bring it up, and don't ever tack them onto someone. It's not okay. Don't make me say it again- to you or anyone else- or I'll dust off the ban hammer.

Noted Winged Mermaid. My apologies, it won't happen again. But just as a point of clarity for all involved, I'm assuming bullying OVERALL isn't tolerated right, and not just bullying about mental illness. Because if that is the case, then your ban hammer will be getting quite the workout. Just want to make sure the rules are applied fairly throughout, and not just to the "newer" mers while the more "famous" mers get continual passes.
I think the quotation marks are unnecessary.
