Thanks! The Fin Fun tail actually exceeded my expectations - the monofin being encased in Neoprene looks very sturdy, inside the neoprene cover they have put two leather tip covers to cover the monofin to stop it ripping through the neoprene or the tail fabric. The foot pockets were very snug but comfortable and the overall monofin shape looks really great. I haven't tried swimming in it yet so I will know more about it's functional ability once I have been swimming. I was pleasantly surprised with the sizing, because as you probably know the biggest size it goes up to is 'Adult Medium' and according to the size charts I'm a few cm too short for it, but I was happy to find they were quite generous with the length around the hip area so it fits my waist perfectly, I'm 172cm in height.

The postage from US is really great. They say 7-10 days and they really mean it. I ordered my tail just after X'mas and despite public holidays and the new year etc I got it just 8 days later. They do indeed have an Australian arm (finfunmermaid.com.au) and postage and tail cost is cheaper but they don't seem to have all the adult colours in stock, and because I couldn't wait I was happy to pay extra for it to come from US in the colour that I wanted. Comparitive price us to Australia - from US was $210 AUD including postage, Australian site would be $187 AUD including postage.

Ive been trying to get an underwater photo of my tail for a month. Timing, weather, life, and needing to sew a new skin all got in the way. Today we tried it, and got nothing but terrible results. My wife was using the camera. I'm not sure what a mirror would do to help her. There were three issues we will address. First, we did the shoot in the late afternoon, with the pool in shadow. Next time, we will do it in the sun. I also found the underwater camera has a special underwater mode. Next time we will use that. Finally, I could not hold still, as I kept floating up. I'll get some ballast. After the shoot, I took a moment to find that 5.5 pounds makes me neutral.

I was just saying that mirror thing because I have been thinking about preparing for underwater photos, and a mirror can be helpful if you want to do any poses underwater but want to make sure you are posing right for the camera. :) That is one of my concerns when I eventually start getting underwater photos/footage. I keep studying Hannah Fraser's underwater photos and hoping that I can pose like that underwater someday.

you can get the sequins here http://www.ccartwright.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_list&c=20, have fun browsing! Mine are glued on the neoprene of the fluke with marine goop and mostly sewn on the body. For anyone with the patience to try this, I would recommend using the strongest thread, leather needles, a zigzag stitch. Some of the shell colors benefit from heat treating with hot but not boiling water right before sewing as some are more prone to cracking during the sewing.

My first attempt at painting a tail. I chose spandex that was too thin, and quickly developed some holes. The blue and dark blue on the dorsal side are veratex fabric paint. The green on the ventral side is Prismacolor marker, and was not very successful. I'll not be using that for the next trial. The monofin is my Lunocet.

Just looking at your fluke, I'm not an expert but you may find that it doesn't have much push because you have cut so much into the middle of the monofin. I think that is where most of the power comes from, but it's still a really cool design and definitely a great land tail!

The fluke is made out of aluminum as well and not put together nearly well enough for me to want to put it anywhere near water. I think the poor thing would fall apart. There's no monofin at all in it, I just wanted it to look similar to Ariel's fluke shape (which is super weird) and still have a little room to put my feet in it.

Wow, I did it, read through all 138 pages of tails.
I made these between 2007-2008 for various parties in SF. They weren't swimable! The flukes are made out of up cycled couch cushions that I carved and made foot pockets in so we could flip them around. Gosh those were fun times! But of course that was before having all the kids, and settling down ;)

The gold tail is a latex fabric, and has a very cute attached top with keyhole stomach and back area, very pinup like. The Mahina monofin isn't sealed in so I can walk in it. I just made this one last month.
I am working up a design for a silicone tail, and can hardly wait for hat to be done so I can post here again :)
