Thank you very much ! In fact, all the scales have been molded on (about 1-2cm for a scale) and then, painted one by one three times : one layer in blue, one layer in dark bue for the shadows and one layer in silver for lights ! More than 20h of working !

What type of silicone did you use Lira? The tail looks great!

I used the worst silicone ever ! XD But I had no money so I decided to use it until I sell some latex and silicone tails (obviously, made with Dragon Skin). I used silicone for bathroom, like the Latex ALEX Plus, but with silicone ^^ But notice that, if you want to paint this type of silicone,you need to mix the paint with translucent silicone and Zippo fuel.

Yeah, Zippo Fuel is used to liquefy the silicone cause it's so dense that you can absolutely not mix any paint with it ! :rolleyes: I'm gonna make another one like mine for my little sister, but only with translucent silicone. I'll make the paint job directly on the Lycra/spandex. And it'll be the last one ! Never again ! >_<

Don't forget this if you want to use this type of silicone : be careful. Protect your hands, your eyes and your lungs cause if you not, it'll hurt you (it hurted me a lot, "We must suffer to be beautiful.").

Pretty cold, the water was about 19C but the weather had turned for the worst so I think it was about 14C. The water was definitely warmer then the air temp, and then came the wind which made it worse. The other girl even turned blue from the cold so we draped her with a towel.

Its 2 Churhchill fins fused together. Stevi hasn't glued it down yet because I might swap the monfin with my magic tail fin because I think I prefer the shape, but we shall see. But she has done an amazing job on my tail, I cannot wait to see it.

I will post a separate review with closer-up detail pictures of my tail and top, but here are pictures of my new tail from Mermaid Parties! Yes, I created the design of the colors and everything! I have swam in it twice already and it is AMAZING!!! The first time I swam, I went alone, so no one to take pictures, and the second time I was with one of my bestest mer-friends, but it was a nighttime swim under the stars, so pictures wouldn't have shown up well :D! that oceanika monofin seems to make for a nice silhouette there. Maybe it's just the angle, but I really like the transition by the ankles. Also I kinda like the colors. I think the airbrushing is improving the look of the tails.

So, being VERY satisfied with our efforts to create the most masculine, badass merman tail ever seen, Shell and I decided we wanted to top it. Bigger fluke (rapid instead of a foil), darker and even more intimidating coloring, and spikier fins. We are also moving away from silicone and latex, instead really enjoying the benefits of straight painted neoprene; lighter, quicker to dry, more vibrant paint, easier to get on, so many reasons. She looks even better underwater, I absolutely love the technique shell devised for painting scales. Her new tail for herself makes use of this technique even better. Only problem is, I have no idea at all what my next one will look like.

Two days ago I swam in an absolutely crystal clear blue pristine glacial mountain lake with my best mermaid friend. We had my underwater camera case on, and took some videos as best we could. These are some pictures I captured off of the video. Sorry some of the pics are blurry... ah well :)

Blurry, but you can see the pristine quality and clarity of the water!! Where the rocks disappear is a dropoff.

My tail arrived! I got the Ariel turquoise from Magictail.de. I really like the shape of the monofin and the scale pattern. However, I was disappointed in how the heel sticks out so very far on it. Does anyone have a fix for that?

Now that I've got the monofin I'd like to make my own fabric tail over it, with much more detail work on it. I'm being ambitious for my first home-made tail, but I've got high hopes!5259

Miami -- You could add a dorsal fin that runs along the back and ends up and over the heals to help with that in your next tail. You can also look into adding ankle fins and other aquatic accessories to help with that disguise. The heal being that pronounced was one of two things I did not like about that tail company, but in general their tails look good.

maniacalmacchiato: I think I started it in May (if memory serves), and didn't get to work every day but tried to as much as possible. All the scales required 3 coats of paint to get the look I wanted (after much initial trial and error) so that's really what took the longest.

Brianna: I'm glad that's what you are reminded of, b/c peacock feathers were the inspiration for the color scheme! :)

I mostly followed Firegypsy's / Mermaid Sasha's tutorial.

On the third picture you can see where I used velcro for an opening to remove the monofin.
The monofin is a unmodified Hydra.

I finished my spandex and sequin tail! My Photoshoot was yesterday but the pics won't be given to me until next week so this is what I have for now. Swims much better than my latex tail, and all the glued sequins stayed in place when I swam in it in the sea.

All the sequins were glued using e 6000, and I swam in the tail for about 3 hours in the open sea for an underwater shoot, all stayed in place. The occasional scale would come off here and there but it was mostly due to rough handling and scraping myself on the coral reef.

But here's what the tail looks like so far! The concept for the tail was something Ursula themed. It will have heel fins on the back too. I'm hoping to get plenty of octopus style accessories to go with it (I have a pair of earrings on the way!). Waiting for your first silicone tail is killer! I keep counting the days!

I was actually shocked at how it looked in the water. while swimming you really can't see too much of where the monofin ends. which is good. and the sequins take on a blue/purple hint in the water. which is funny considering i only used pink sequins. THANK YOU :D

The silicone is pigmented. The only fabric in the tail is a mono fin sock which covers the blade to protect the silicone from the fin. Once I get the tail put together, I will be giving it a bath to get the mold release off the silicone, then give it the slimy look.

Hope to have this tail finished by Monday!

One of the most beautiful tails I have ever seen! I'm really impressed w/ how the scales turned out, I plan on using that technique but I've never seem them looks that good. Seriously, it looks so realistic and the flow...it's so incredible! Reminds me of a goldfish or an h2o style tail. Wonderful job :)

Thank you!! 'Goldfish' was kind of what I was going for, so I'm glad it turned out :) I had side fins that would have made it more goldfish-y but I couldn't figure out how to attach them the way I wanted. Might try to add them later anyway :)

But yeah! I'm really happy with how the paint job turned out, even though I was kind of rushing it due to time constraints. The netting I used was pretty thick and had relatively big holes, which I think helped a lot. I also was using it more as a pattern as I still individually painted each scale (though if I had had access to an airbrush, I'm sure I would have used it. Painting that thing was a lot of time/work x_x )

But yay I am so happy, I have a working tail and I love it!! I can't believe it still! Hehehe.

I cut the netting away from the thicker handle and ended up with a nice rectangle of netting. It covered 1/4 of my tail, so I had to move it a bit but it worked wonderfully.

Also, I didn't do anything special for the heels! Just lucky pictures I think, in some they show up more. When I was making it I had thought about sewing a double layer of fabric inside the tail to go over the heels, actually, to help prevent wear, but I didn't end up doing it.
