I remember when this forum first started, and the best thread was the Show us your tails thread. But since the forums transferred to this new format it seems to have been lost and forgotten. I wish to revive the coolness of that thread and it was kinda the culmination of everyone's hard work and efforts to transform into a mermaid. :yay:

So can everyone post their tails new and old on this thread or we can just revive the old thread. And if the admin can pin it to the top of this general discussions section so it never gets lost again. ;)

And I agree with everyone... while I like to make a lot of things myself, I also treasure pieces that clearly have limitless love and artistic energy put into them. Raven is one of the most talented artists on this network imo, and I would LOVE to someday have a tail created by her :) Originally, I wanted to save for a MVD tail, but after her latest creation.... just WOW. Nothing else comes close!

Thanks, guys. When I EVENTUALLY get my youtube vids going (it will happen SOMETIME this year, I promise), I'll make a tutorial and post it in the make up thread. It wasn't actually too terribly hard. The hardest part was that most of the colors came from a friend's kit that she uses professionally so I couldn't directly contact my face with any of the non-disposable applicators. Everything had to go on a tray first, then be applied.

As for the fluke shape, I wanted something a little different. That dumb notch in the middle though was PAIN to work with. I tried using velcro peices instead of a zipper to be able to open and close the bottom fluke. The work was worth it, cuz it worked, but next time I'll probably just do the zipper.

I will post the silicone tail once it is finished. It will probably take around a month to complete.

You look sooo totally happy in your tail. The rainbow that the sparklies give off works so well with the deep purple. Gorgeous!

So! When I finally decided to admit I wanted be a merman (and Shell got over her shock) we set out to make a truly unique merman tail like no one had ever seen. Too many male tails look like their female counterparts, and frankly I believe this puts off quite a few men from getting into this. I wanted something very badass, dark, menacing. That would look like it could cut you. Shell looked initially at pictures of the Sea Bass for inspiration; I started getting ideas of incorporating design elements of things like HR Giger, and of all things, the Batman symbol. And you know.....I think we succeeded!!! I truly believe that with this tail, no man should ever tell his mermaid no ever again. Get one, and get out there with her.

I made my own tail but I'm kind of scared to put the picture on here, because everyone else's are so much cooler! It doesn't look very good- its fabric, lime green, and has a dark blue dorsal fin in back.

My first tail was made of red spandex. I actually sewed it quite crooked... and the zipper is inside out :P No one can tell though, unless they look really closely.

Northern mers are tough and more accustomed to the cold. My aunt came up to minnesota from Florida and she said she couldn't stand how cold it was. She donned a huge fur coat most of her stay. It was 58 degrees. -rolls eyes- Living onLake Superior has gotten me really used to the cold. If I had a tail I'd probably put it on in the snow too! :) and even on the hottest summer day, the lake is an icy cold temp. So yeah. You kind of have to be tough to be a northern mermaid.

So, being VERY satisfied with our efforts to create the most masculine, badass merman tail ever seen, Shell and I decided we wanted to top it. Bigger fluke (rapid instead of a foil), darker and even more intimidating coloring, and spikier fins. We are also moving away from silicone and latex, instead really enjoying the benefits of straight painted neoprene; lighter, quicker to dry, more vibrant paint, easier to get on, so many reasons. She looks even better underwater, I absolutely love the technique shell devised for painting scales. Her new tail for herself makes use of this technique even better. Only problem is, I have no idea at all what my next one will look like.

And, oh, I forgot to add: they are a hell of a lot cheaper too. Makes a big difference when you don't need all that silicone.

Yes, you're right and I'm a die hard Hannah fan, she is breathtaking. It's just, lately, I am getting a bit frustrated because I made 2 monofins already and they both snapped in two so I was getting mad at myself and now I bought a Finis Competitor but the size is smaller then the monofins I made so I had to make some adjustments and it's taking me forever. I'm getting so impatient because I want to swim in my tail :-p

First Tail "Prototype" make with vinyl. Has a leathery look to it but did not stretch much so do to wear and tear, it is now retired.

Second Tail "Practice" made with PUL fabric. It's the same material cloth baby diaper covers are made from and durable. It's getting some wear and tear mainly due to the fact that most pools I've been in the past year are under 5 feet deep :-/ Also it does tend to get waterlogged if I am in the water for a loooooooong time.

I'm getting married in late June so I have not had the chance yet to get started on my third tail. I want to do a sequins tail (I love Hannah's tails!). I have majority of what I'll need for it, just not the time! I haven't made a rendering yet of how I want it to look but I have some ideas with the colors that I bought.

Thank you Vinobia! I can't wait either, especially since I'm currently stuck using my practice tail. Since this is going to take a lot of hours to do I really want to make sure my measurements are correct. I noticed as soon as I started using the two tails I made, I lost inches around my waist and hips with in weeks of making them! Which is pretty cool, but I also want to enjoy my tails for a long while and not have to retire them or do major alterations on them as soon as I finish them. I made my second tail is smaller around my torso AND it's now loose on me (feels more like mermaid pajamas!).

1.0- I still have, it's a stretch vinyl tail without a monofin. I'd like to cover it in sequins someday and put a monofin in and glue it down. I think it would weight a lot though if I did that.

2.0- My mertailor tail when I got it, photoshopped to get rid of all the wrinkles and make it look like it came up to my butt.

2.2.- my mertailor tail after Raven sewed a 10 inch extra piece on the waste so it fit, re-did the scales and paint, and glued the fluke down. It still didnt last long because it wasnt real neoprene, made of alex plus, and createx is just bad for chipping and coming off.

Uh hi, first post here. I remember looking for a mermaid forum a couple of years ago and not being able to find one. As soon as I found this place I became so happy that there was a forum.
When I was about 9 I made my first mermaid tail.

I really want to make a neoprene tail but that is going to be kind of expensive. I have to admit I am a "mermaid nerd" I guess xD. I have a journal I've been writing for 3 years now, its all about mermaids and what tails I make. I even drew little graves for my fish that have died. :( My family doesn't understand why I'm obsessed with mermaids and love the ocean.

I'm trying to think of a better mermaid name but can't decide. I also had a similar problem with my tail as well, mine also came a bit too big. It is too loose around the waist and hips. And yea, writing a review can be very helpful to other people, you should consider taking the time to do it.
Especially if it's something like wrong sizing or something of that nature.
It's useful information that can help someone else decide whether or not to get the same tail. Not to
mention it helps show the credibility of the tail-maker.

If you guys are unhappy with your tails you should certainly contact the Mertailor and at least see if
he will offter to fix them for you. If not, maybe you should include that in your review xD

Leelo---- I only used the 4 oz bottles and used equal amounts of 4 colors (pink purple green and yellow) I also had enough to paint an whole other tail with the extra green, yellow, and additional blue I had.

4 oz bottles are perfect and all you need to repaint!

Also it only took me one coat on the body, but about 3 coats on the fluke.

It's also my first ever made, im super happy, its really tight on me and a bit short on the butt area when I sit up but I like the low hip tail style so I'm gonna add some scales to the back. I used a finis wave which I cut into a whale like shape, the way I cut it was a but too much so the tail doesent have the best thrust so I might either buy another one or attempt to make my own later on.
