Well, it's really my only fin I've ever swam with, so For the price, I certainly wont complain. As I'd get more adept I'd probably want something fancier and more performance-capable, but being what it is- it suits me just fine for the time being.

I have seen may tails in my time and this one is easily one of the best looking tails I have ever seen. Got to hand it to those hard working people at finfolk. The blending of skin to scales is amazing.

Thank you very much, Amy! Glad you like it. Yes, it was my first tail attempt, but had some sculpting and painting experience before. Nevertheless I did a lot of SPFX material training, testing and constructing of small silicone things before starting a whole tail that would match my own expectations and taste ;-)
No, sorry, I did not make a tailmaking thread, it's just here :-) It's just gorgeous!, I'm halfway through making my fist, it's taken ages to do the sculpting of the scale sheet but I hope its all worth it, worries too my first try wont meet my expectations of quility but I've done heaps of tests :) Have you made any others?

Meilyn, does that fluke create much drag? I've been curious about its performance!
I don't notice any drag at all. It feels so smooth and fast when I am able to get fully submerged (floater here). I love the feel and flow of my extra fins underwater (i touch myself as i swim sometimes LOL). I've been able to swim just as fast as Theobromine *i think* when we swam together. compared to fabric and bi-fins, I feel like i swim a lot faster with this tail. The extra fins create a water vortex of their own by the way they're made. Don't know if that helps with anything but it feels fantastic to put my hand behind them and swim lol.
Long story short, I don't feel any drag and if there is, I don't notice any of it at all.
The fluke with having so much extra silicone is quite heavy compared to others though. It takes a while to get used to but even with it, I don't feel any drag when I swim. It's only being static that I can actually feel it's weight. The tail itself is about 35-38 pounds.

Thats pretty awesome; It LOOKS like it would be difficult to swim in but i guess they really know how to design the fins to eliminate as much drag as possible! Good to know! I want to go pretty crazy with the next tail i order. :)
(Also LOL... I dont blame you for fin-fondling. I probably would too if my tail had fins like that!)

02-06-2015, 01:13 AM
You look wonderful in that tail, Meilyn; we've already discussed your plentiful fins (I especially like the pectoral ones and can see why you like to fondle them!) so I shall also point out that your choice of colour actually in a way goes with your skin tone, making you look very natural! :mermaid kiss:

Thank you everyone!
I asked and sent finfolk a picture of my skin color/belly tone and asked them to replicate it. They did a wonderful job to near exact of what i sent them. however on my end, i took those pictures that i sent them during winter so my skin was a tad lighter lol. I was going for that waist blending thing and this just goes to show you how precise they can be with colors!

Merley : It's for me, I don't sell tail because I don't have time (and space in my tiny parisien flat) for that. But this tail was a demand of the Aquarium of Paris (where I'm working) because they want a tail more colorful than my blue tail :)

Imogen, seriously, they are jealous because they lack creativity and don't know how to make tails of their own. People are so quick to judge especially if they don't understand. I'm having trouble telling people close to me, its okay to be different.
The tail is beautiful, I love the blue, I'm not sure if its paints or rhinestones? So pretty.

Psssh, it doesn't matter even if they are jealous, its their loss hun. Continue making tails and try and not let other's get you down ;) Sadly its a society where people are not always broad minded and are not able to appreciate things outside of the box and that's okay, we are all different.
I'm sure in time you'll find people to hang out in person who will enjoy the same passion as your's :)

Thank you for the hugs and kisses. It takes a LOT of courage to make a tail and as much as the idea sounds fascinating to me to make my own tail, every penny for me counts and even with the $100 I could spend to make my own tail I would prefer the $100 be deposited into my mermaid money tin for the silicone tail instead.

Some pictures and clips from the second (and last) time I wore my tail.
I already got a fan ;)
The tail gave me a lot of drag and was heavy to swim in. Lots of fluke, not so much propulsion. (I want to be perfect the first time I do something, it's dumb, I know)

When I turn at 01:00 you can see that the fluke bends very, very wrong.

So I finally decided to go on a little adventure and take some pictures with my mermaid tail. This actually required me getting up at five in the morning to drive to this location[emoji12] but totally worth it I had so much fun and then I had to go to work a couple hours later[emoji17] I wish I could live the life of Mermaid all day[emoji4]

So I got my tail from Morticia/Siren's Calling on Friday! <3 IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL OMFGGG. This week has been hell so I only got to try it on once, and wasn't able to get proper pictures of me wearing it... But pics are coming soon, I promise! In the meantime~

the tail is beutiful! how much did it cost you?
Starfrit
04-20-2015, 01:43 PM
If I'm remembering correctly (I paid for mine back in the beginning of last May, so my memory's totally screwy), it was like... $640 USD for the tail, then shipping was roughly $80, and then $91 CAD in Customs fees. Mine was discounted though, I think, because my tail was the first to get the new dorsal+fins upgrade on the tail so there was a lot of experimentation involved. Totally worth it, in my opinion. <3 My first swim in it is on Sunday night, I'm SO STOKED.

I'll see if I can get some video when I take it swimming! Unfortunately, the pool that's letting me bring my tail normally has a pretty strict no-cameras policy so I can't guarantee I'll be able to get video or pictures of my first swim. The reason I'm allowed to take my tail is because my friend is the head lifeguard that night, and she's the one who's been teaching me to dolphin-kick so she's cool with it, and she might be able to bend the rules to let me get some video in my tail (though I'm not gonna push it since me and my friends won't be the only people at the pool that night and I don't wanna make anybody feel uncomfortable).
If I do get video it'll all be above-water anyway since I don't have access to any kind of underwater camera. ^^;

@MerEmma: The construction is FANTASTIC, and save for a tiny tear near the top of the waistband it is TOUGH. I was terrified Dave and I were gonna shred it apart when we were trying to get it on!!
Also, that ENTIRE tail is hand-painted. With a brush. Because Morticia is amazing and has the patience of a saint!
@Elvina: It's made from painted neoprene! :D Since it's my first tail I wanted something that was more durable than spandex but not as heavy or expensive as silicone, and neoprene fit the bill perfectly. <3

Arion i actually drew just the ankle fins and the dorsal how i wanted them shaped. and yes, i agree biut it was v very hard getting them to understand wut was inside my head for it. i actually had a pattern that i wanted for the fluke but they got as close as they could i reckon. im still well happy with it. im gonna be having them paint my other tail and switch out the monofinsoon as soon as i decide what colors i want.
tx vicky and arion. arion, erin, lauren, and mike were so patient with me tryna get across to them how i wanted it. and the tail is so very well made. ima make a couple of tiny changes. im gonna make the dorsal and fluke edges shredded. im also making a shell top for it right now and am gonna repaint my octopus top like a blue ring from australia

I'll be spamming the photoshoot and fabric tail appreciation threads in a bit...

Thanks Julianne!! Itīs theatre glue, but it didnīt last long. I lost my scales after 15 minutes. After that, I made a fitting bra, but unfortunately I donīt have any photos of it yet ;-)
I did a non-mer shoot that we glued sequins to our faces and arms. We used waterproof eyelash glue, and it worked very well!

It isn't as glorious as many of the other tails here, but I finally finished my first spandex tail this past weekend. I still need to sew on a few more snaps to the fluke where I left an opening for removal of the monofin and I still want to add black outlined scales.. but it's swimable now at least. :) I just bought some new spandex in a very pretty emerald green tonight so plans for my 2nd tail are already in the works. I'm officially addicted and have found at least 3 more fabrics I want to make tails out of in the coming months, as I'm able to afford it.29853

Ooo that tail has an internal feel to it; like something of the very deep sea that dwells among sulfuric vents! Such things are said to be the best possibility of life upon moons like Europa and Enceladus which are covered with thick ice on the surface but which have warm water beneath due to their cores. :mermaid kiss: :cthulhu:

Hey guys, you made me so happy with your comments regarding my sand dragon tail... Thank you so much Meronica, SeaMonkey, Echidna, Vicky, Vrindavana, Morganna and Michelle!!!
MermaidMichelle (http://mernetwork.com/index/member.php?3410-MermaidMichelle)
I took one look at these pictures and thought, Ah, she's the Green Dragon I saw last year; this is a different tail yet it has her style and is still dragon-themed! :mermaid kiss: It, you, and the environment in which you are swimming look amazing (the lights suggest a pool, yet those decorative sculpture pieces/masonry/paintings? suggest what looks not unlike a set)!
Iīm glad you like my second "dragon", Michelle!!! These sculptures are placed in a German diving tower, to let the divers explore old Greece or Atlantis underwater....

So I didn't learn until after I bought this fabric that the color comes off and turns silver, but I think it just makes it look cooler! I hand painted the fin, and used finfun's new monofin. I think it turned out pretty well being my first sewing project without my mom's help. haha I'll be making my friend's tail next!

Lovely! Next try, you could seam the edges of the open fluke before sewing them together, so you don't get that over stretched look on the fabric edges, and it won't rip from being stretched too much. It'll look much neater instead the jagged cutting.
The paint job on the fluke is really pretty! The bits of glitter adds a really nice touch :)

I'm going to be modeling jewellery at the Niagara Falls Comic Con next weekend, and I just found out there will not be room for me to sit- at least not if I want to be recognisable as a mermaid! Time for making the worlds fastest walking tail!
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/26/230d376ab918e66bddb07079cfa78d27.jpg
Excuse the wonky mirror- the mirror is brown and distorted, but its the only full length mirror I have. I traced my Finfun tail for the "body," then made a circle skirt for the "fins," which i have to shorten a bit. Not bad for thirty dollars and two hours work!
Now, do I want to risk sequinsing it?

Sequins would look fantastic! And since it's a walking tail and the bottom doesn't need to stretch, you could glue them on fairly quickly.
Princess Pearl
05-28-2015, 02:27 PM
I do still need it to stretch so that I can get it on and sit and so forth, so I've been sewing the sequins. Thank god I've got the giant ones from Victor Enterprises.
