It was a rough photoshoot for me. First time, and all. I'm going to find a more flattering top if possible. My tail is NOT that light colored, but at least you can't see the damage it took! I'll try to get better dry photos after the tail is its natural color again and more water photos after I repair and let it fully cure!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Oceanika fins!!! I just have to find one of those wooden shoes-stuffer things and stretch the left foot somehow.

I'm biased, but I'd go with Jesse. :) He created the tail in about 2 months, was really easy to work with, and he's fantastic about communicating with you. And his tails come out soooo realistic. They look and feel like the real thing. I've never worked with Raven before, but I'm sure she's amazing too.

Oh, it's a long story Harmony. I'm waiting on a reply from Stevie about it. I learn everything the hard way, I'll publicly leave it at that. I cherish the tail, but I think I was just too impatient for a swim in it.

It will go back to its vibrant, tropical colors by our Halloween feast at the Crab Shack. We'll have pictures of that, too!

I finished my spandex and sequin tail! My Photoshoot was yesterday but the pics won't be given to me until next week so this is what I have for now. Swims much better than my latex tail, and all the glued sequins stayed in place when I swam in it in the sea.

All the sequins were glued using e 6000, and I swam in the tail for about 3 hours in the open sea for an underwater shoot, all stayed in place. The occasional scale would come off here and there but it was mostly due to rough handling and scraping myself on the coral reef.

I too get tail envy seeing all of these amazing silicone works of art, but this thread has shown me unbelievable ideas for fabric tails! It's completely inspiring! A fabric tail doesn't have to mean your tail will be "basic"

Ya know, you're right! Im thinking about somehow making my fabric tail less plain... extra fins? Scales? paint? I want to experiment with like different fabric paints... maybe if i cover the fabric with shiny, thick paint to make it look scaly? idk... Good luck with your tail making! I'm excited for you!

:) I'm glad you like it Tony. I'm sincerely sorry for the few flaws it ended up having. I think if I had the actual monofion, or even just a cutout of the shape, that it would have fit better length-wise. I had made the center point on the fluke to be about 3" off the end of the monofin. I'll make sure I get both Rapid and Wave ordered before too long so I can make cardboard cutouts of the shapes :)

We took photos with Queen Victoria and Father Christmas. :) I was later dubbed "Lady Koral" by Queen Victoria of the Dickens Fest! And this single mermaid (aww, yes. When I was sewing it the material frayed a bit, I also sewed it too tight and it was just some old material I found in the cupboard so no $$$ lost :p I just lost all enthusiasm as it was late and very hot here!

I like the fluke shape. you seem to have fitted the fabric to it very well also. how does it hold its shape in the water? Also that is a gorgeous pool area you're in.

I cut out the shape from cardboard, then wrapped it in black duct tape, painted the tape gold, then wrapped it in clear sealing tape, then used the sealing tape to stick it to the monofin. Unfortunately, I forgot to seal the sides, so the water got in and the cardboard got soggy lol but I was still able to swim in it!

ShyMer- it actually holds its shape very well. But since it got soggy, it would flop over when I stuck it out of the water. Not that that's entirely a bad thing haha
The pool was at a fancy schmancy resort that I stayed at with my boyfriend's family. It was great!

This is me in my Fish Butts Ariel-style tail. It was an early edition of the Fish Butts tail and they no longer do the custom flukes like that, but I'm glad I bought it when I did because the shape of the fluke is EXACTLY what I wanted; Stephanie did a fintabulous job!

These pics were taken during a photoshoot I did for my sister's best friend, who was doing Halloween-themed Disney princess portraits, hence the scary faces, fading red paint on my face and the giant hook. :cool: The first 3 show off the tail pretty well, and the last one shows the finished best shot for the themed shoot.

That fading happens with the use of a monofin in a fabric tail. It is just the nature of the beast. You can extend the life of your fabric tails by being sure not to touch the bottom of the pool, side of the pool of the pool deck with your tail. Put a soft towel or yoga mat down to put your tail on and the rest of the time you are in the pool only let your hands touch the wall or bottom. It is a work out, I tell you. But it will keep your tail in better shape for longer. (though your tails look pretty good. Only minor wear. Not sure how long you ave had them, but I have seen much worse)

Thank you Miya! I'm not exactly sure but I would say a good estimate is probably around 1000. I got all my sequins from Mermaid Shelly's Grotto. I had to place several orders. You never know how many of each color you will need until you start working on it haha. Good luck on your tail!! It's a big project, but fun and definitely worth the time and effort :)

My mermaid creations tail is back! Soon as I finish my final exam and email it off to my teacher I will get some pictures. I plan on going for a swim tomorrow and am going to rig my camera so I can film solo. Dont have a camera person. Itll be at my college pool. BUT May 18th... VERY Last minute fabric tail... I decided that my fish butt looked so good on Mermaid Bells, that she needed to wear it this weekend to faire.
So, I whipped one up in about 2 hours total for myself....

It has a full-length dorsal, a lexan monofin, and goes all the way up over my bust. ^_^
It may not be silicone, but it's pretty sweet.
It's less lavender than it looks, and the fluke is actually translucent when you shine light thru it.
